Murphy bed and computer alcove or sofabed and closet?
Comments (10)Thanks everyone for your opinions and advice. The ZZZ chest is an interesting alternative, but I think since the mattress folds up, it may not be any more comfortable than a sofabed. Also more complicated to set up and break down than the Murphy bed especially for independent older folks who don't like to ask for help. The newer sofabed mattresses with the air mattress on top seems like an improvement over the old thin hard sofabed mattress, but we have a couple of Aerobeds and they are fine for younger people for a night or two, but for an 85 year old visiting for two weeks or more, I really want a very nice pillowtop mattress. So I guess I will go with the Murphy bed. But we still need to put the computer someplace. We think if we use two 18" file cabinets as the base for a laminate countertop going wall to wall with two 30" wall cabinets above we can make the 60" closet space look like we designed it to be a computer/office alcove and not like a closet with no doors....See MoreOptions to use on place of existing sliding closet doors
Comments (13)If you do try curtains, use curtain rings. If you use the rod pocket to hang the curtains, it is somewhat difficult to slide the curtains back and forth. The few times I've seen this, the curtains mostly stay open all the time. But if you use rings, the curtains will slide back and forth easily. You can whisk the curtains apart, and then close them with a sweep of your hand. If you'd rather have doors, why not get a handyman to give you an estimate of how expensive it would be to alter pre-fab doors to fit your closet? It sounds like the only thing keeping you from doors is the extra work involved. If you really want doors and don't want to do the work, it might be worth paying someone to do it for you....See MoreKitchen redesign narrowede down to 2 options

Comments (7)It's too late for a pocket door - it's already been drywalled and textured, with a light switch installed on the wall where the pocket would go. If you google space saving pivot door, you'll see what I mean.
