Comments (13)Thanks for all the comments. My wife just cannot get over the modern look of Ikea. We've decided to go a different route entirely. While visiting a friend, she noticed their home office was a converted dining room as well. Similar to ours - hard wood floors, chair rail, crown molding. This person had two beautiful antique barrister bookcases, a small leather couch, a tastefully done large desk, and a oriental rug. It was nicely pulled together. So we are dropping the Ikea route and considering a partners desk with two sets of barrister bookshelves. Perhaps something like this: To answer the other questions: - this is just a home office for the family - the ideal space should accommodate, a PC, laptop and printer (and shredder) One option if the antique desks are too expensive: we have a custom Amish furniture maker local. He said he would make whatever we want. I'm curious to hear how much he would charge. Even the Ikea stuff added up to $2,000 - $3,000. Comments (16)I like the rug as well as the art. Where to get those? Also, any feedback on the ones I have referred in my post? I am sure you probably won't recommend them as you suggested alternatives but would appreciate some feedback - In case if like to chose from them, which one should I go for....See MoreNeed office table bookshelves ideas for our home study room
Comments (8)In my experience teenagers rarely study out of their rooms and a kids table is a pretty useless piece even for the 6 yr. old. I think get the stuff you have to have first and then see if there is space for a sofa that is quite a small space for 2 kids to work in not to mention the age difference. I have teenage International students and they do google classroom but it needs to be done in a space where there is no interruption so I guess it depends on how you are working this ....See MoreIdeas for the home office layout
Comments (10)So that giant storage unit looks like it belongs in a preschool, not an office. Can you tell us something about your line of work that you need so much storage? The only stuff that belongs in your office is stuff you need to do your job. I strongly suspect you simply need to get rid of a bunch of stuff. Design your workspace as if it existed in your company’s building. You can add more personality since it’s in your home, but it should still look professional and functional. Like someone said above, remove everything from the room other than the furniture you plan on keeping. That includes everything from the giant storage unit. If you would not load it into your car and take it to your company office, don’t bring it back into the room. Go online and search for pics of “office with 2 desks.” Post some that you like....See MoreRelated Professionals
