Theatre Halloween Party 2019 (And Costume Reveal!)

I've been away, working and just life in general. We had the theatre Halloween party last Saturday. Smaller crowd, but still a good time. I made hot mulled apple cider for the party, and it was yummy! I think I like cider better cold, but one could still add spices when serving it. It smelled great while cooking! I used probably too much oranges in it (5-4 squeezed, one I studded with cloves and floated in the pot). Overall, a successful dish. :)
As for this year's costume, I went as a fortune teller that I gave the name Madame Estrella . She is inspired by Cher's song, "Dark Lady". I made my crystal ball out of a clear plastic ornament and an old candle holder I found at my local Goodwill. I did have lipstick on, but it faded by the time pictures were taken. I have another party on Nov. 2nd to attend in town, so hopefully, you'll get better shots of me by then. Wait until you see the shoes!
And here's the cider bubbling away :). I used cloves, cinnamon sticks, pumpkin pie spice, fresh cranberries, 2 Granny Smith apples, 5 oranges, cranberry juice cocktail and a gallon of apple cider. Oh, and dark brown sugar :).

Comments (16)Oh Man, Halloween is my absolute favorite. DH scared more adults than he did kids! LOL He put on a Ghillie suit and sat around in the yard. One young one squealed, jumped up did a 180 and ran to his parent. Both DH and the parent laughed over that one. Haha! I so love Halloween! The only time of the year we can legally scare the crap out of everyone! =D DD's boyfriend put on the ghillie suit, sat out beside the spirea at the end of the driveway, a couple of female parents with a group of youngsters wandered up to get candy from me. I handed out candy, walked part way out the door to watch the group walk down the drive. Dustin leaned out from the spirea and boo'ed them. Haha! Poor little boy lept about 4 ft to the side, screaming grabbed his momma's leg. His mom laughed so much! Oh Lordy I had so much fun! =D I R Evil! Next year, DH and DD's boyfriend will be deployed to out of country locations, so my middle son will wear the ghillie suit. I'll have more decorations in my yard. This year, we didn't have corn stalks or pumpkins out like normal. I didn't get to grow any this year, corn did poorly. I'll get photos next Halloween! Comments (71)Well, I've been watching a lot of Food Network this morning and they seem to be making lots of dishes with garlic. Since it's so close to Halloween I wondered how the whole garlic and vampire thing came into being. Some people believe that the association of garlic warding off vampires has to do with bug or animal bites. One is rabies. You can get rabies from any animal bite from an animal that has rabies. Remember Cujo (Stephen King) getting rabies from the bat? Anyway, I guess if you have rabies you become fixated on certain scents. One of them being garlic. Another theory is that of mosquito bites. Since mosquitos suck blood, they fly and can be warded off be garlic, it's not a difficult jump to vampires (if you have a vivid imagination.) Anyway, here's a little more info! Comments (3)Oooo...another Halloween party enthusiest! Enough to make me come out of lurkdom for awhile... Great theme! We have a themed Halloween party every year, themed costumes are required (I think it actually makes it easier for people, because they have an idea to start with). And no, our guests don't seem to have a problem with it, we just give helpful hints in our invitations, and we normally have next year's theme picked out ahead of time. This year we're doing a pirate theme...all of our guests were informed of that at last year's "Hollywood Academy of the Undead Awards" party. Our 2009 them is going to be a medieval theme - we get a little ahead of ourselves sometimes. ;-) Some great suggestions so far, and don't forget to start saving cardboard boxes to make pyramids with (a large one out on the lawn that you have to walk through to get to the front door would be very striking and mood-setting)! I guess it depends on what you prefer...my hubby likes "scary" better, so our decorations normally have some sort of gore factor to them. If you lean towards that, you need some clear jars for "canopic" (spelling?) jars...to hold the organs of the dead (in the pyramids). Otherwise opague jars labeled will work just as well. Heiroglyphs on the walls would be a nice touch, along with eyes watching from behind things (think glow in the dark paint). As for your costume, how about you going as a mummy! Tear up some old sheets, stain them with tea (and a little fake blood, if you like), and have your hubby wrap you up. Or "wrap" some old clothes to make them a "mummy suit", then just make yourself a head piece and booties to match. You could be one of Egypt's animal gods too...a bird, or a cat, something they worshipped. But don't let your size stop you from finding a great Isis costume or something - those flowing dresses make anyone look good, really. Sandals, a head piece and some jewelrey would finish it off. Food...I'd probably go with some organ molds & jello and/or cakes, but like I said, we do "gross". Our normal halloween fare is a "serve your own" chili bar, with all the fixings, lots of desserts (witches fingers, chocolate eyeball truffles, etc), and a full bar with a "signature" drink. Last year's was the martini (since we were all supposed to be TV or Movie stars or characters), this year we'll pick something to fit with our pirate theme (a rum-based drink). I normally have punch with dry ice in it to fog it up too. I'd do a search for "Egyptian Halloween" and see what pops up. Go through web sites and see what everyone has to offer for egyptian theme parties, and you'll be surprised at how many ideas you'll end up with (too many to pull off, no doubt). If you have a basement, perhaps you'd want to decorate that as if you were descending into a pyramid, with treasures and a large sarcophogus down there? We used fake torches to light our basement stairs for our goth party one year, so it was like descending into a vampire's lair... Just a few ideas - can't wait to see what you come up with! I knew her name meant star, but I wasn't sure of the national origin. Thank you, everyone for the compliments! She was actually fairly easy to put together. Wig was from Wal-Mart (one that can be styled!), headscarf was one I already had from Goodwill, skirt was from Goodwill. I wore spiderweb tights from Wal-Mart (gonna have to keep those for a future witch or spider queen costume). Jewelry was a mix of what I had and bought some others in town (that black and rainbow bead bracelet was from Rite Aid!). Coin belt was from Wally World. Earrings from there, too. The vest was one a friend gave me and it's my favorite shade of pink (dusty rose). I just glued star sequins to it. The shawl was one I made and also wore when I went as Stevie Nicks. My skirt has little bells on the drawstring. I saw that at Goodwill and I had to have it! :)
Here I am with two lady friends of mine as Harry Potter and Fred Flintstone (her husband dressed up as Wilma, LOL!). The dog belongs to our light man and our costume mistress (Keith and Jeanne). His name is Mr. Bates. Here, you can also see my skirt and some scarves tied around my waist. The pink one is sequined and the black one has multicolored sparkles on it (it's tulle). Look at the shoes ;). Yes, they're the same ones I've worn for every costume since 2013 (save for my Stevie Nicks costume in 2017).

This past Saturday, there was a Halloween party at the art studio in town where they have open mic nights (I go there and I read some poems I've written). This was taken by a friend of mine. Channeling Stevie Nicks here lol. I didn't wear the shawl that night, but I still like how the outfit looked (and the vest is long and flowing enough).
I wore different colored eye shadow, too. It was more brown and orange and added some gold, glittery shadow, too.
