Ingrid, it could be one of the frequent temporary glitches that often happen here, like the posts loading last to first, and photos now seem to be loading sideways, posts appearing without the accompanying photos and poster's names being mysteriously changed, among other unexplained things. Here's hoping it corrects itself shortly. I'm a fossil, too, and don't see the value in change for the sake of change.

Mine have been doing that for a while even on my phone. I really despise it on my phone most of all because after I click to enlarge it takes me back to the top of the post when I close. I consider Houzz a lesson in patience. Emily is a Houzz administrator who sometimes helps, but not always. I really do not get the constant fiddling.

I’m on my iPhone, and the pictures I just posted on the “Bolero or Earth Angel” thread are tiny and one is turned sideways. This just started happening to me in the past week or so, along with a few other frustrating/weird things. Lisa

Lisa, you are the only one I've noticed whose photos have posted sideways. Strange. When I post photos, to help insure they submit, I don't post any text with the photos. I also try to post three or less of my photos. Occasionally, when I hit submit, the pics disappear into Houzz ether. Diane

ONLY my pictures are suddenly posting sideways? How strange is that? I’m certainly not doing anything different from what I was before this new “very small photos” thing started. I’m also now having to close the page if I want to post a comment or picture at the bottom of someone’s post. As soon as I leave the thread I originally opened, I’m sent directly into the Houzz App, which I don’t want to use. Actually, I CAN’T do anything once I’m forced into the App except for read the posts. There simply isn’t the usual box with the words “Write a comment” inside it. I don’t have the option for “writing a comment” until I close out the page and re-enter the forum from my list of favorites that shows up when I open Safari. It’s a real pain in the you-know-what.

I already stopped starting my own posts months ago, out of sheer frustration. Now I’m having trouble adding comments and/or pictures to posts someone else has already started. It’s been a long time since I even tried to start a thread, so maybe I should see if anything has improved for me on that end. I’m not super hopeful. I’ve hung in there through this mess for well over a year, but my patience is wearing thin. Every time I find a “work around” that I can live with, Houzz changes something on me again.

Sorry for ranting on/in your post, Ingrid. I’m just getting real fed up with this cr*p. Sometimes I almost feel as if “they” want me to leave. They’ve already successfully reduced my participation to adding a few comments and pictures here and there. It’s like Houzz is trying to drive some of us away completely. Heck, they already have driven a bunch of folks away completely, when this whole mess of “improvements” began. You’re so right, Jeri. I saw nothing that needed fixing in the first place. I wish they had just left everything as it was.

Same !! Also while we are complaining, I am only subscribed to roses , clematis, antique roses . Yet when I scroll down I see posts from all over and it’s really annoying. I am always afraid I’m missing out on posts that get buried under random posts I don’t care about .

Lisa, it looks like your sideways problem is becoming an epidemic. What a thing to look forward to. Would posting from a different kind of device help, do you think? Have you tried that? I hope you get some relief from all these dumb Houzz problems. A while back, there was a funny discussion about Houzz wanting the rose forum to leave because we don't buy enough of their bad art and furniture. I'm sure it boils down to money. Someone said tech support doesn't even know a rose forum exists (we're so small). Now that's reassuring.

I can see my "little" problem is not the only one, and I can only agree with Jeri's remark "If it works don't fix it". Also, the pictures I see are smaller than what Jeri is seeing, 2 x 1.5 inches ( I just measured one), and on a forum that's all about the beauty of roses that is not very satisfying, and blowing each photo up, one after the other does not convey that same richness of color and form.

Lisa, or anyone else, this is the thread on which to rant and rave (not that you ever do) about the frustrating issues that continue to plague the rose forums. I can only recall little windows of time when all was well for pretty well everyone; for most it's been a long and hard slog with not enough good to show for it after all this time.

Ingrid, I had a robot lawn mower that mowed 4 areas, 1 per day, taking only 1 hour each day. I purchased the latest and greatest -- after 12 years having my lawn always look great. The new one has an algorithm that was written to handle the above. Would you believe it now takes 8 days before some areas are mowed..... Talk about 'If it works don't fix it'!! It comes under J-O-B security.

toolbelt hit the nail on the head. The programmers and techies have to keep fiddling with things all the time or lose their jobs. They don't care if it works, it must continue to change to justify their paychecks.

Houzz hi-jacked my Rose Forum bookmark and started taking me to "My Topics" instead which includes other forums I sporadically check because they aren't a main interest. I think that's what you're seeing Lilyfinch. I just went to the Rose Forum again to re-bookmark it and it works fine. WHY????????????? Of course, they've never fixed it so I can type on my phone or edit my Voice-to-text. Sometimes it will let me type a response and then there's no submit button.

I just now got through posting on another thread and patiently waited while it uploaded my eight pictures. I then hit submit, and poof! the whole thing was gone.

Ingrid, I first post the text and edit to add the pictures one at a time. So far, so good. I figured it may take a little longer, but not as much time as having to due it all over again.

I've had very little problems posting compared to some of you. Just a few that disappear, and sometimes show up randomly a day or two later. But, today, when I tried to gain access, I have gotten a "oops, that page cannot be found" message, repeatedly. That was a new one for me. It's a good thing patience is one of the first things a gardener learns.

I've gotten that on and off all day! And here I thought it was my computer. I wonder if the other forms have all these problems? I think they do from what little I've read of them.

I wonder if Houzz isn’t prioritizing their app on mobile. Also wasn’t there an old website Garden Web website that was integrated into Houzz? That would be a tech nightmare. The mobile app is probably cleaner, since I have no major problems. But the app seems to limit each comment to 4 photos. I have an iPhone with a synced iPad (they fully talk to each other via the “cloud” so if I take a picture on my phone it shows up in my photos app on my iPad a minute or two later) and I use the Houzz app (ie. Not a browser like Safari, Firefox, and Chrome). Mostly I use my iPad since phone is too small. I do however see sideways pictures more lately. It might be the pictures that show up sideways were taken with a phone oriented with the long side up? I suspect it wants a picture that is wider than it is tall. Maybe Lisa could confirm if this is the issue with sideways pictures. Still, a weird tech glitch. I also see pictures load small sometimes and this seems random and is not consistent. I will go to a post and see a set of very small thumbnail pictures and then go back to that post and they will be large. It’s probably a page loading issue. If I click on the first small thumbnail photo it lets me flip through the photo set before closing it and then it puts me back at the same spot in the thread. Occasionally, as I scroll through a thread pictures that were there on the way down will disappear if I go back up. I just have to leave that thread and re-enter it to see the pictures again. So they are still there. I think pictures are so large, datawise, these days that they are struggling with the huge files. I think they are trying to reduce the file sizes as they are being uploaded into the system and so maybe posting with fewer pictures will work more consistently for people here? Maybe try doing no more than 4 photos per comment for awhile, since that is the Houzz app limit, to see if the upload of the comments you are posting get more consistent?

I can't even post one today and I've manually reset the picture file size. That had been working, but not today. Staphanie, there is no rhyme or reason to these glitches. One can still go in through Gardenweb and view from there. Sometime they redirect the site, but not always. Things are better when working from there.

Fortunately Millie is adorable from any angle, but roses, not so much. However, Millie's photo is showing small on my laptop while some of you are obviously seeing it in a larger format. There is no rhyme or reason to any of this. My husband, my go-to IT guy, does not want to hear about Houzz any more. Having worked for several hi-tech companies he can't begin to understand what has gone on here. Of course, neither can we.
