What would you do with this living room?
Comments (12)The wall color is BM Huntington white and the trim is Simply White. I think these are all great ideas, the idea of a vertical painting is a good one, I paint all the art myself on old canvases so I just have to find the right peice. The very white painting actually had a lot of soft blues and pinks, it's just totally washed out by the window! re: the layout. I've tried to flip the side of the room the couch is on and it just doesn't look right, the chairs seem out of place on that side of the room. I agree that that I need plants next to the TV instead of the lamp. I put it there to experiment with how to add more vertical height to the room (ceilings are 9'). However, I also need more lights in the room for needlepoint and reading - it's really been hard to figure out how to add them without breaking up the sight line. Brass lamp is from Target. I also agree about the fact he fact that I have too many bins, I needed more storage and went a bit crazy at Target one day. My theory is that once the room is decorated I'll figure out which ones match best and move the rest to other areas of the house. This photo is not perfectly styled or edited, but this is what's behind the couch! I definitely need a different window treatment or nothing at all & the plant needs to be moved (there is good sun there and she's a little sick)...See MoreWhat would YOU do with these rooms?!
Comments (2)Whenever you have too much of color like your tan tones/golden oak floor, then you need to add a contrasting foreground color with just a smidge of the tan/gold. You also need to bring pattern into your room. Look for items that have just a bit of the pink from your art work. Rugs: Pillows:...See MoreWhat would you do with this room?
Comments (9)The first thing I would do is remove the horizontal molding and complete the verticals (just fill gaps and repaint) and it won’t feel as disjointed. You could paint it deep blue to coordinate with your room. Don’t add shelving, as it will feel too busy. Consider a floor lamp and large plant, per first picture. I’d look for a low/long console and then decide if you want to place tv on top or on wall....See MoreWhat would you do to update dining room table. Stain or paint?
Comments (37)Hello everyone. This has been a process. Thrilled with how the chairs turned out. The picture does not do it justice. New webbing, foam and Dacron wrapped seats. We will wait for next year to tackle refinishing the table. We want to use the table during the fall/winter months vs the kitchen counter. Put up a new light fixture (34" from the table) Now....I'm thinking of curtains on the entire back wall as suggested by Beth H. : ...but what color? What do you think about a colored sheer? I do like the light coming through the blinds....which we did ditch the metal blinds.. ran to Home Depot and got faux wood for now. I'll post some updated photos. As always, your comments are truly appreciated....See MoreDarra Duffy
