What would you do - kitchen, living room remodel into modern country
Comments (11)Wow...thank you everyone!!! Just about brought tears to my eyes to get all this input. 100% agree with everyone on the clutter (but I wanted to show it how we truly live). I have had in mind to repaint something in the soft pale/blue gray like Amy from Texas mentioned. My sunroom is in a soft yellow, so something that would complement that without having to repaint the sun room also. Great idea to take everything down and look at the vintage things I have. I will take a pic of some of those items and grab some images from Pinterest. I've told my husband I'm okay with selling (we have a view of the bay, so it's hard to want to give that up), but I have to know where I'm going. I'm a homebody and don't like change! Also, my husband's tax business is in a building on this property, so it's not as easy to list without dealing with that either. Yes, we could take down those cabinets above the peninsula. The thing with the kitchen is that I could just do an update (solid granite on the counters) but the cabinets themselves are not that great of quality. Don't want to spend $4500 on countertops going over sub-par cabinets. So I remain stuck on that. And then husband doesn't want to put a big chunk of change in if we might be selling in the near-distant future. And finally, on window treatments, those dang windows are so wide, that nothing standard fits them (including standard sized rods). I was thinking of going with just some simple drapes hung really high, but always have the issue with them being too wide. Blinds would have to be done in two narrow panels on each end and one large in middle. Again, I'm just really touched you guys took the time to help me! Thank you so much, AuntJen for giving me the bump (and the dog's name is Scout)! Jenny...See MoreWhat would YOU do with this formal living room space?
Comments (6)There are a few things you might try: --Move the upholstered chair from out of the office area and put it where the living room chair is, and rehome that one elsewhere or have the chairs facing each other from each side of the coffee table. --With the big chair gone, can you flip the desk, screen, and all the normal office stuff so it's on the left wall and you don't have to see it when you come in? --Think about a round glass coffee table to reduce some of the bulkiness of sofa, filing cabinets, large desk. The room needs a few lighter pieces. --Your office furnishings look very high quality, so you probably want to keep them. However, can you rehome some of the filing cabinets to your husband's office if you don't use the filing cabinets daily. They take up a lot of real and visual space. --No wall clock--good for work, not so good for relaxation in the living room. You already have the grandfather clock--no need for double reminders about time! (Any chance you can move the grandfather clock to a foyer or den?) That would really open up the space by removing some bulkiness and adding more open space....See MoreLiving Room Refresh? How to make it flow better?
Comments (11)How about some new sofas that are not dark to start. Also not reclining. A nice ottoman lets you put up your feet and still not take over the whole space. Drapes that are all one color and touch the floor for sure not dark colored. More lighting, if at all possible keep the furniture from blocking the entry into the space so maybe think a sofa and 2 chairs . Something lower for a TV stand and what I see is a great confusion over what style you want. I see formal stools with a country table . Mixing styles is an art and very rarely pulled off with real success so I would advise getting maybe some design help before buying new furniture to make this space the best it can be....See MoreWhat would you do with this living room?
Comments (12)probably been said, but front legs of sofa would look better on the rug. These are inspiration pics to show small sofa and chair ideas and simple window treatments. Good suggestions on having a TV wall; possibly the bookshelf can go in another useful room....dining room or childrens room for extra storage? Again, just guessing and just some ideas for making your space work.....I think you can one or two unexpected things in the room....the arc lamp shown in pics or dynamic big art that works with your rug to go over the TV or the sofa? 1. big furniture feel but doesn't take up a lot of floor space. colorful rug. 2. Pair of interesting chairs and significant art work. 3. One piece of furniture, the chair, selects all the colors for the room.....including art work. Your rug would do the same thing.....love the unexpected Arc Lamp. 4.Large art work small everything else. 5. Rug adds the drama and everything else is in same colors....See MoreEmily A
