Has anyone ver grown a Mango tree up north?
Comments (44)Mike, Unfortunately I have to start over with my ice cream banana because i left it out in the cold. I'm currently moving and might try with a metal halide indoors. While we're on the subject of tropicals though I have a miracle fruit (Synsepalum dulcificum) in Al's 5-1-1 by a window with a cfl which is currently flushing yet again. It initally dropped all its leaves back in march but its come all the way back. Hopefully I'll get some fruit from it soon. I also have a second one of these trees- I put it in the 5-1-1 but with Sphagnum instead of peat. It dropped all its leaves and has done nothing at all for the past 3 months. The moss is very slow to dry but I hear these love water so I don't know whats wrong with this one. Maybe it needs humidity indoors to get it kick started. If anyone would know, i'd love to hear. I'm anxious to try growing some citrus this summer. -Greg...See MoreMonkey Princess Goes Mexican
Comments (11)Well, my apprentice has gone home, and I'm just finished canning 20 quarts of sauerkraut. L2C46, the tomato butter was past caramelized and definitely into the "scorched" range. It was definitely pig food. L, I do feel badly about all those 5 quarts of Great White tomatoes, and about the 12 hours or so of work that got wasted. I have about 3 or 4 bushels of tomatoes still in the garden, if it doesn't frot tonight, and I'm going to have to pick them and take them to a food pantry or the senior center, I'm all done canning tomatoes. The dinner was very good, and the creamed corn fit in because it had a chopped jalapeno in it. Very yummy, so thanks, Nancy, and a good use of some of the last of the season's short ears of corn. We did make crisp. Zucchini crisp, actually, and it tastes like apples. MP took it home with strict instructions to her brother that he was not to "divulge the secret ingredient", LOL. She's going to make her parents guess what's in it. (grin) We made peanut butter and chocolate crepes and breakfast pudding this morning, along with some bacon, I have pictures of that too, I'll post later. So I'm having a cup of Brazilian Fazenda Aurea, while the Princess' Costa Rican is off-gassing on the counter next to the sauerkraut. My house smells....interesting, like coffee roasting and sauerkraut. Annie...See MoreSnow Day with the Monkey Princess - Frittata version
Comments (18)LOL, Ellen, I told her to call it "Monkey in the Kitchen", but she thinks not. (grin) Olychick, you could easily beat up all dozen eggs together, but she always does them one at a time. For some reason she gets bits of shell in the egg regularly and it's easier to fish them out of a bowl with one egg cracked in it, than out of a big bowl with a dozen eggs in it! gardengrlz, they are good. Since they are low in carbs, we make them into sandwiches with bagels or English Muffins. (grin) Gotta up that carb level, you know? Sally, it's just so much fun to cook with the kids, and they LOVE being on the Cooking Forum, they're always reminding me to take pictures of them doing something so they can "be on the forum". Comments (5)Jasdip, these two are my oldest daughter's kids, their Mom is Amanda. The pigtailed Princess belongs to my younger daughter, Ashley. Neither of her kids are old enough for school, so they didn't have a snow day. Plus, these two live about half a mile away, the two little ones live 35 miles away, so if they had a snow day, they wouldn't be able to get here! It's too bad, they love to play with "Kayda" and "Little Dave". Seems I'm the only one in the family who still calls him Bud.... Annie...See Moreannie1992
