I can get ONE FREE spice. What would YOU choose?

Safeway is offering "me" one free jar of spice by "Morton & Bassett". I don't need anything....I'll probably get it and donate it to the food pantry. They have dozens to choose from....

Italian herb if you are donating. It has a broader use.

So it’s spices OR herbs and dozens of choices? For donating purposes keeping more basic in mind, I don’t think you can go wrong with spices like cinnamon or garlic powder. For herbs, oregano, rosemary, thyme or maybe bay leaves. Yes, the Italian Herb Blend could be good, too.

The thread is maybe timeless - so as long as we can communicate ------ then it should be ok to respond to a message that was written say 11 years ago haha. Well - as long as the person is still online to respond that is hehehe. Thanks very much for sharing that web link! I hadn't even heard of the WSOS before. But now - thanks you to - I know what it is! The photos of the orchids at that site are superb. Delightful pics. I'll bookmark it and will be taking my time to enjoy all the pics there. A huge thumbs up from me with that photo site there. Thanks very much! Also, now I know what you mean by 'better' ----- as in for orchid competitions. Totally understandable. I grow orchids, but only for pure enjoyment of watching them - not for any 'friendly' rivalry competition. But I think that people having a hobby for competition growing is still nice. Thanks for your reply. We did check out geothermal, but the cost is through the roof, even with tax credit. I think a good chunk of the quotes we got are for the ductwork - although it is a colonial the layout is a little awkward, so it will require quote a bit of custom ductwork. And we still need the ductwork even if we go geothermal.

I made up a simple appetizer that I've been bringing places. The last gathering people were standing in front of it and not moving! Everyone really seems to like it. Soften some cream cheese or neufactuel (sp?) and put in the bottom of a shallow serving dish (can be small or big, pie plate etc.). I make it about 3/4 of an inch thick. Then put on a layer of pesto. About 1/4" thick or so and not quite to the edges. (I've got homemade in the freezer, but I've used canned too) Then put on a layer of finely diced or ground sundried tomatoes in oil. About as thick as the pesto and again not quite to the edge of the pesto. Top with toasted pine nuts and a sprinkle of parmesan. Garnish with some parsley and serve with crackers. Delicious!!! Grace

countertops that say wow or foul! which one would you choose?

Thank you for the feedback. Still looking for more suggestions. The countertop is rosemary caesarstone and it is a gray-green color, I guess almost similiar to limestone. The only thing is the stone appears to have white blotches throughout and I'm not sure how that would look as a larger slab. nishka- Thank you for raising a good point. I should wait until countertops are installed before choosing backsplash. I'll choose what looks best. Even though I'm looking at the terracotta patterned tile by ann sacks. It has a pretty charcoal and paparika hand painted design. Still not sure what countertop to go with. Anyone think of something I'm not thnking of that would be absolutely gorgeous with these cabinets. I was even possibly thinking of soapstone or slate, but not sure how these would work in my kitchen.

I agree with the herb blend for donating. Poor folks don't have a lot of different bottles of seasonings, and one nice one could be a real find for them. For a well stocked kitchen with no smoky things, the smoked paprika is a good choice.

But if you can choose from the whole line, what about something with a little more kick: Blends for the same reasoning, togarashi, chili powder, ras al hanout, or similar. Those pack a llot of flavor.

And while italian herbs are great if you're making spaghetti or other basic Italiany stuff, for general cooking it can be too specific, and I'd choose herbs de province or fines herbs if I only could have one.

And if it were for me, personally, with my overstuffed 6' tall spice pullout, I'd choose their Chipotle Honey Garlic. I like blends for quickies and that sounds great for sandwiches or eggs.
