What would happen if I posted 'Free Roses - You Dig'?
Comments (12)Yes, it's only Mrs B R's location, and I don't have another spot big enough for her. Dang it! JJ probably doesn't like my higher pH. I wonder if she'd like a little shade. She could have CS's spot. She doesn't keep many leaves and gets a little BS. RD is a sad story. She's getting too big for her spot. I could chop off a cane or two at the base, I guess, but she also hasn't been showing me any red in her flowers. Can't figure that out. CS is just sticks in my garden. Comments (11)I order from both of these places. Heirloom bands are small but not smaller then Sequoia, Rogue valley roses or Vintage, based on my experience. They are usually very healthy and grow fast. I wouldn't plant them in the ground now here in my climate, unless these are really hardy roses. I usually overwinter them in garage if I had to order small bands in the fall. Hortico has wonderful selection of roses. Really hard to beat. My only problem with them is that until you get your conformation, it is absolutly impossible to know if the rose listed at web site as available, is really available. Many times I was odering some roses and waited for weeks to get a conformation. When I finally got it would said that the ones I particularly wanted are not available and at that point it was too late to order somewhere else. However, I receved many good healthy roses from them and many of them it wouldn't be possible to get anywhere else. So depending on what is more important for you now, size or confidence that you get this rose, you can make your decision.Olga...See MoreIf you can only plant 6 what would you choose?
Comments (58)This is a late post, but I wanted to put a word in for Glenn Drowns great selection at Sand Hill Preservation Center as he has 2 exclusive varieties which make my list. 1. Open pollinated Big Boy, for the reason Big Boy with care produces large harvests of a sprite tasting, not too tomatoey, but acidic tomatoe which is cleansing to the palate and one can never tire of. RL (regular leaf) I (Indeterminate) 2. Backfield, this is an early tomatoe of robust tomatoe flavor, huge, huge yields, dark red, hardy plants which ripens all at one time. Spectacular flavor on a determinate plant.. This tomatoe makes other early types like Silvery Fir Tree which is a good early tomatoe taste like those bland store types. It is that good in the heat and is pretty too. FL, D 3. Red Pear, huge yields of cherry tomatoes with Beefstake quality if one allows them to ripen in heat. RL, SD will need staking. 4. Azoychka, A light acidic version of Big Boy in a yellow tomatoe. Very hardy in extreme conditions, germinates well in cool sprouting and has very good yields of good sized fruits. RL, I 5. Rose, this is like most pinks in a work horse for a later tomatoe. It is huge, meaty, plants that resemble weeds for thickness and being tough. The fruit is meaty and sweet and under right conditions will be fruity. (only problem is one must cut the fruit from the vine as the plants are unwilling to give up their treasure.) RL, I Also mentions, Black Krim but one would tire readily if you had to eat just them as they are heavy on the palate. Riesentraub for the Campbell's type juice if you like that. In an additional note, people need to be warned that Brandywine is a musty flavored tomatoe which does have a smooth or slimey type flesh. This tomatoe is one which is the reason why so many people who first taste tomatoes say they do not like tomatoes. It is very distinct. Most people prefer the sweet types like Rose. Sweet types or heavies like Krim will tire people in eating them by the peck. That is why I mix and rely on the acidic types as they allow one to different flavors to keep on eating tomatoes....See MoreAC/Heat/Hot water for whole house - which one would you choose?
Comments (2)Thanks for your reply. We did check out geothermal, but the cost is through the roof, even with tax credit. I think a good chunk of the quotes we got are for the ductwork - although it is a colonial the layout is a little awkward, so it will require quote a bit of custom ductwork. And we still need the ductwork even if we go geothermal....See More- last month
