Comments (25)Hi Mauirose, After looking at HMF I don't think the first one is CdC because in that one picture it shows it peachy looking and they are never that peach no matter what the weather is. They are only peachy in bud form. Same as the purple one, it is never that dark maroon color in some of the pictures on HMF. I think the one you think is Brandy has too small of blooms to be it. The blooms on it are only about 2 1/2 in across. I just don't know and guess I am just not gonna know for sure. I appreciate you taking the time and everyone else. Thanks a bunch, Judy...See MoreDo you see what I see?
Comments (14)All the stuff can go on the "cloud" these days. Off site storage. Webshots is changing its whole concept, American Greetings sold it back to a couple of the former owners, and now it will be all up on the Cloud, and upload there from your cell phone, your computer, maybe your camera but I don't know yet. Not for public viewing, just for folks you give access. And not in albums, have not figured out how to keep thousands of photos organized. So I will wait and see before I opt in to the new service. Meanwhile, Amazon has cloud, ASUS has cloud, and perhaps you can do a backup to a cloud. Sort of like space debris floating around out there, huh..... Sorry about your burglary. When I went north for a couple of months last year, my pet babysitter and yard dude parked his extra car here, came to watch TV, played with the animals, did the lawn, etc, changed the lights, left on music or TV late hours. So it seemed someone was home. He is a real friend! Love having a botanist for a yard dude, even if it is only till he finds work again. Note: I also never reveal my schedule of coming and going to any neighbor. So far, so good. When I worked offshore and was gone 6 or more months at a time, I used more strategies than that. That is why I named my place on the bayou MoccasinLanding. I also hung huge snake carcass mounted on a board to the tree by my little dock, with the sign, MOCCASINLANDING....PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE SNAKES. The grass got a bit high back there, and nobody ventured into my property. Moccasins are very aggressive snakes. I recognized the subject line as the Christmas carol. It almost "sings itself." Do you hear what I hear.....> Yeah, Theresa posts using Les' username. I think that is where Les chose to name Theresa's Angel Garden. I'm into names, so I notice those things. :) A little off this topic, but about hosta: I got my very last hosta order today, from WadeGatton. 21 plants from them. I also need to list the order I received from Hallson, and of course from Don Rawson, to wind up the season with a flourish worthy of Arthur Fiedler conducting the 1812 Overture. .....However, my little maltese boy kept me up all night last night throwing up, had to take him to the vet, and he is still very weak and cannot stand up. He is in my lap at this moment, muzzle resting on the crook of my arm. Little ole man is almost 13 and he is precious. So indeed I cannot set him down simply to type on the computer. Hope tonight is quiet and not a repeat of last night. See you guys on the morrow....See MoreDo you see what I see?
Comments (46)LOL, magnaverde! I hope this isn't too far OT, but I have another, more mundane, color/taste observation. Every year I make gallons of that middle-class holiday staple, cranberry Jello salad. My recipe, from a church cookbook, states "any flavor red gelatin." I prefer to use the red raspberry flavor, but I think almost all artificial 'fruity' flavors taste alike. Following are some ingredient lists for (basically) the same salad, found on the internet, on different sites: 1 (6 oz.) pkg. raspberry gelatin 1 c. boiling water 1 (20 oz.) can crushed pineapple, drained, save juice 1 1/2 tbsp. lemon juice 1 (14 oz.) jar cranberry-orange relish 1 c. diced apples 1/2 c. broken pecans 1/4 c. celery, chopped 1 lb fresh cranberries crushed or minced 2 packages black cherry Jello 1 medium orange peeled and seeded (all white must be removed) 1 cup pecans or walnuts crushed 1 cup sugar 2 sm. strawberry Jello 1 Ocean Spray cran fruit (12 oz.) 1/2 (20 oz.) can crushed pineapple 12-16 red grapes 1/4 c. chopped nuts 2 c. boiling water 1/2 c. cold water 1 lg. pkg. orange Jello 2 c. hot water 10 c. cold water 1 jar orange cranberry relish 1/2 c. chopped celery 1/2 c. chopped walnuts I was surprised to find this one, too: 1 (3 oz.) pkg. lemon Jello 1 2/3 c. water 1/2 c. celery, chopped or diced 1/2 c. nut meats 1 c. ground cranberries 1/2 c. ground orange 2/3 c. sugar Or 1 c. cranberry orange relish may be used I'd be willing to wager that very few people, least of all myself, could tell what 'flavor' of gelatin was used in the final product....See MoreI finally got to do something I've wanted to do most of my life!
Comments (18)Glad your whale watch actually found some whales! Our winter breaks on Maui coincide with Whale Season in Hawaii -- best viewed from Maui and Big Island of Hawaii. Whales migrate from Alaska to warmer waters to calve -- and to mate. There are astounding breaches by bulls competing to impress the cows. Using binoculars, I can see a lot of 'showboating' from our condo's lanai. Last Christmas we took our son and his family on a morning whale watch out of Maalaea harbor. We were fortunate to have a calm day, with a sea like glass. The bay is a favorite 'nursery' for whales, and we were only out five minutes before seeing a cow, her newborn calf, and an accompanying 'auntie'. (Auntie cows aid with the babies and help keep too-eager bulls at bay.) Later, we were still in the water watching a pod of dolphins when a young bull came alongside the boat and then went under us to the other side. We could almost scratch his back! I don't expect to experience that again. (By law, boats must keep a good distance from whales, but a pilot can only cut engines and wait when a whale decides to approach.)...See More- last monthlast modified: last month
