Cookie Dough and the Monkey Princess

I'm not a big fan of raw cookie dough, but all the kids are, including Ashley, the biggest kid in the group. Makayla has a Pinterest account (go figure), and she and Ashley found a recipe meant to be eaten raw and never baked. It contains no raw eggs, so I guess that's safe.
She told me she had to make it at my house, since their stove is broken and Amanda has been cooking with a griddle, an electric skillet, the Nesco roaster and a toaster. Now, this doesn't have to be baked, LOL, so I wasn't buying it, but let her have the kitchen anyway. I think it was more about space and ingredients. (grin)
So, she beat butter and brown sugar, flour and water, chocolate chips and vanilla, I don't know what all else, and scooped them out. She loves my cookie scoops, those life-time warranty Jenaluca scoops, I highly recommend them to anyone who has gone through five or six Wilton/etc, types.
They went into my freezer and after the kids had eaten a couple, Makayla took them home. And now I'm down to four half sheet pans. I just don't know what happened, at one point I had ten! (grin)

Monkey Princess Is Here
Comments (21)Lars, she is the "Monkey Princess" because when she was small she'd climb all over me. I asked her if she thought she was a monkey and she said "Yes, and you are my tree". Since she was the only girl child in the family at that point, everyone referred to her as "The Princess". So, she became "Monkey Princess" and it stuck. Why is she "101"? I sure don't know, I think she's used to having numbers with all of her passwords, etc. Teresa, the zucchini comes out of the dehydrator much like gummy worms. No one that has eaten it has yet identified it as zucchini and the kids all love the stuff. The fair is already gone and she got several blue ribbons with a couple of seconds and thirds, including one third for a picture she had drawn. We had a lot of company the week before Fair, so we didn't have the time to spend that we usually do. She made bagels and donuts and apple cinnamon syrup, brother made fudge and cookies, so we were still well represented, although no Grand Champions this year. She's back home now, but she'll be back. She was "teaching" her cousin Jamison to cook during this last visit. (grin) She deserved her break with Grandma, her Mom had another seizure last week and she and her brother were the only ones home. Makayla got her brother outside, kept him calm, called the ambulance, gave them directions and kept her Mom from hurting herself by lying her on the floor so she didn't fall. She did well, stayed calm and I'm proud of her. And now that's over with, we can get back to cooking, she's going to help me make salsa next week, if enough tomatoes ripen. Comments (28)RR, I love my life too. It's busy and crazy and full and sometimes I'm tired, but I love it all. Even that snow out the kitchen window. Tell Maggie to eat an extra cookie for me, but don't tell her that I let Makayla have COFFEE in that Christmas mug by her elbow. Well, about a cup of milk with lots of sugar and a little bit of coffee, but still, it was coffee, and so very "grown up". Bud just wanted milk with his cookies, he's such a brother! Those cookies were SUPPOSED to be checkerboards, LOL, but they were a little.....um......misshapen. (grin) Cathy, we let Makayla pass out presents at the family Christmas party too, she even got to wear my elf hat that plays "We are Santa's Elves". The kids got $50 worth of fun out of that $5 hat! Pat, I like peanut butter on Ritz crackers, I'm not so sure about adding chocolate, I'll have to try that. Comments (10)Sleevendog, I think she's decided that the dough was still a bit wet from the soaking, and so made the paper soggy, and when they hit the hot oven they stuck. I don't know, but I do think we would be better off just using a greased baking sheet. I told her that's why people try recipes first, so if something unexpected happens, you figure it out and fix it. Sometimes it takes more than once. She was fine with that, and happy to make more pretzels, and her brother enthusiastically agreed, as his job is eating them! We'll be trying gluten free soon, I think, since her mother is celiac and we're working on adapting favorite recipes. Dcarch, who is that second girl, she does resemble the Princess (or perhaps the Princess resembles her). Cathy, I think she's pretty amazing too, but she doesn't smile enough. She has one crooked front tooth and will need braces and she's starting to be self conscious about it. It's the age, I guess. party-music, when we're baking for "home", we don't really care if the results are pretty as long as they taste good, so it was still fine. It's just an excuse to bake some more, but I like it better when they come out perfect for her. I'm usually more disappointed than she is, she just sets about figuring out why it happened and how to keep it from happening again. Lars, pumpernickel pretzels sound really good, we'll have to try them too, thanks for the idea. Comments (8)Thanks, John, I didn't even NOTICE the handle. (sigh) I was busy chasing Apprentice Monkeys. I'll have to remind her, especially with the AMs around. And the kitchen definitely did not stay tidy. We had things on the counter, brownie batter on the floor, hot grease spattered everywhere and the dogs busy cleaning up the spilled cheese. I just keep putting things in the dishwasher! Byrd, I have a waterbed, leftover from my "hippie" days a long, long time ago. My husband says when I grow up, I'll get a big girl bed, LOL. So, the Monkeys DO love to jump on the bed, although I only allow the small Apprentice Monkeys to do it. They've all jumped on the bed when they were small. (grin) Soon they'll all be too big, and it will be "no more Monkeys, jumping on the bed". Ellen, we DID have macaroni and cheese and bacon first... Chase, The Princess is now about 6 inches taller than I am. Ooof. It just doesn't seem possible, and The Tasting Monkey is as tall as I am. The Princess will be 13 on her birthday, a teenager. Double "ooof". Mitch, they are growing up way too fast. The Princess needs a formal dress this year for the big dance. It's kind of depressing, although the Apprentice Monkeys will still sit on my lap and The Princess will still use elephant ears in place of eyes. :-) They all love to cook, so I'm happy.
