I do not plan to use curtains. If anything, I may do a valance instead of using the one that comes with the blinds. They are standard windows (35"W x 60"H, 60"W x 47"H). I looked through some gallery pictures trying to see how the inside vs. outside mount looks. It seems like most people use an inside mount when the entire window has trim around it. Mine don't; they only have the sill with the trim below it. Now I'm also concerned that an inside mount will look unfinished because of the lack of trim. I suppose I could add panels and a valance in the future once the room is completely decorated. So many choices.... I'd still love to get input from others, or even pictures if you have any. Thanks!

Yes, the fireplace window is exactly the same as the other and equi-distant from the other on the other side of the TV unit so I think it really need to match and be consistent with the others...The drapes I'm looking for (actually, already have) are not full and will be able to hang down slimly. I always extend the rod as much as possible to not cover the windows...Will have to work some magic with that one... I HAD seen doing a road but only a panel hanging down on the outsides of each "pair of windows"...but of course can't fid them now... I have faux silk ones that match the walls well...love the color BUT wish they weren't so full.. I have beige (a little too light though I think) linen and brown color block grommet ones too... And then also crazy ones from IKEA. Will hae to take pix. Ugh. I just hate full drapes that close off a room. I'd like to do them on the two windows that you see fully in the picture, but think doing it on the two on the other side of the tv unit makes it too much. SIGH. Pix to follow. So do we agree that a cornice is farty? I just thought these were super cool....funny thing is, the brown and beige look 80s but the gray looks super cool..not sure I have enough gray to pull it off... This is a better view of the 4 windows (From when we moved in day 1 with temporary furniture and rugs)...

By the way, I absolutely love that porch. And I do agree with the idea someone else mentioned that bare windows look best, as long as the windows are large and/or somewhat interesting (like yours.) That's why we almost always have the blinds pulled all the way up. But yeah, the light at certain times of the day is problematic, hence the need for blinds. I think either size would work, given your measurements. The sills are still shallow - mine are 5" from the window, and seem shallow to me. But really, the answer is probably just based in personal preference. Can you get one set and see how it looks? Do you want to be able to set anything on the window sill? (Vase, flower pot, etc.?) I have never heard that 2" blinds are "classic" - I don't think there's any standard like that - blinds simply aren't a classic residential window covering. No 1825 New England house would have had them, though it would likely have had working louvered exterior shutters. But, they are simple and basic, so they fit into a classic setting. It makes sense that 2" blinds create fewer "lines" across the windows, since they are larger and you need fewer to cover the space when shut. And that should also mean that when in the open position, more light is let in, which could be a good thing. I haven't noticed excessive "line-iness" with mine, though. I hope people don't confuse the 1" wooden blind look with the 1/2" plastic mini-blind look. It's funny... I used to always have the smaller blinds, and to me the 1" looks pretty chunky.

I'd do inside mount. If I could, I would make the center window into 3 separate but abutting shades. I would have them capable of dropping to the floor, even if that meant that when you lowered the shades, you had to pull them out a bit to clear the lower window frame. Of course this doesn't mean you have to lower them that far, but you should have the capability. The wider the shades are, the more expensive and the heavier to lift, plus it puts more strains on the strings and makes them more likely to break. So going narrower has its benefits.
