cotto, an own root rose is one that is developed entirely from a cutting of an existing rose. The grower sets a cutting in a rooting compound, then puts it in a pot or the ground. A grafted rose is taking an established rose cane—a more mature rooted rose of a different species which works for this (often a Dr. Huey), and making a slit in that at the base, and putting the cutting into that. The advantage of a grafted rose is that you will get a mature rose much sooner, The disadvantage is that if anything goes wrong, the rose you bought will die off at the site of the graft and you will be left with whatever it was grafted to, which is never a rose one would care to spend time growing. The advantage of an own-root rose is that you may get more abundance from it longer, and that if you get die-back for any reason, the surviving rose will be the rose you planted and not the grafting host. The disadvantage is that you have to wait longer to get the showy results, which is why all of the roses you can buy at big box stores are grafted. However, own root vs grafted can depend greatly on the species of rose and the area where you live. Disneyland and San Diego are where we spent our honeymoon almost 34 years ago. We took the kids on the same trip about 20 years ago. We had to wait until the youngest was over the minimum height requirement for the Disney rides. They were only getting one trip to Disneyland and one to DisneyWorld out of us. Anyway, we stayed in La Jolla both times and really liked it. Sea Lions were great, the zoo which had switched directions between our trips from a tourist event to a teaching/research facility which was really interesting. I don't have much more to add to what has already been mentioned.

I'm attaching pictures of the kitchen plan. I apologize for the quality. I cannot figure out how to convert this file so that can upload the pictures. I tried to enlarge them as the printout was so small and as a result the measurements are blurry. The north wall is 25'. The first 10' are the dining room and the last 15' the kitchen. I was planning on going with cabinetry all the way down the wall. As I mentioned above, when I had separated the dining cabinet from the kitchen, it just felt like a waste of space and made the spaces on either side of the cabinet look awkward. The first drawing, with the stove between two windows is what I was initially going with. After comments above, I'm rethinking this plan. I thought that I would not mind the lack of space between the sink and the stove, as I will have 3 other large areas of counter space (all over 4 ft), plus an island. I emailed the planner, and I asked her about placing the fridge where the dishwasher was, the dishwasher where the stove was and the stove where the fridge was. She felt that the fridge would look too bulky next to the dining room cabinets and supplied the other option of putting the stove next to the dining room cabinets. I'm not really fond of this idea, as there would still only be about 15 inches to the left of the stove. Actually I think this makes the counter space more broken up and choppy than my original plan. The other thing I don't like about this plan is that it has shortened my dining room cabinets by about 15 inches. I will have a 9ft island and the side of the island was to line up with start of the dining room in option 1. I would like to hear thoughts on placing the fridge closer to the dining room and the stove on the wall where the fridge is.

Maybe this is one of the reasons the US Government has decided the minimum SEER rating in the southern states..... Then why would the US Government use the SEER rating as opposed to EER? You've answered your own question more or less. SEER and EER mean the same thing more or less, the only difference as stated earlier is the S which means seasonal. (So not only do you have daily changes in temperature, but also seasonal.) Weathermen have been tracking temperatures for a long time. This is how they know when a new high or low record occurs. These changes can then be taken to determine a good estimate as to the efficiency of the equipment while operating. They know based on set point of 75 degree indoor this area will have equipment run times of 2200 hours. (Houston area specific) This changes from one climate to another based on set points, ambient conditions etc. The US Government decides on minimum SEER ratings for a variety of reasons, one of which is to off set the load on the electrical grid. The south, especially Texas in particular has crazy growth rates compared to other northern climates. So as there is growth, the more efficient the equipment, the less strain there is on the electric grid (which is under immense strain during heat waves) brown outs, and rolling black outs would make for civic unrest and you'd have a mess on your hands like the world has never seen in a state that depends on air conditioning for upwards of 10 months of the year. Efficiency also keeps those electric bills down, so it's not a bad thing in that respect either. If you save $50 on your light bill, you spend that $50 some where else. Which in turn supports another part of the economy. Manufacturer's could fudge an EER number. For one you would need to know what constant temperature they selected for the EER number. Because remember this figure is determined by a 'constant temperature'. You could select 80 degrees. Everyone knows that at 80 degree ambient an air conditioner has a slightly higher capacity at lower temps. So what happens if the manufacturer changed it to 78 degrees. It would give you a slightly better EER. There are a few manufacturers that do not divulge these kinds of numbers. Why do you suppose that is?
