Help! Hardwood floor installation sanding botched floors

We just had site finished, white oak rough sawn flooring installed in our home. The installion part went fine, but when they went to sand they way over sanded areas and created huge lumps in the floor...the photos don’t even do it justice. The contractor fixing our stair rail told us he saw them using grinders instead of floor sanders. Is this floor fixable? I fear they will have to sand so far down it will take away from so many future sands and render our floor a much shorter lifespan than it should have had. The flooring guy hasn’t seen it yet (he left one of his guys to sand), but when I told him about it and sent him photos he tried telling me that’s how rough sawn flooring is supposed to be. What should we do?!
