Oh, no! Old "related conversations"

I for one hate that people, usually spammers, pull up old conversations and answer them years after the initial question. Now I see that Houzz wants to entice people to do it. I was reading Lucille's thread about table runners and on the right of my screen are other discussions on table runners. One is from 2004. Why, oh why, must Houzz try to make things better?

All I see under "More Discussions" are the current threads. I even checked them to make sure they weren't old discussions.

The only 'More discussions' on the right of my screen (on PC) are current threads. Not related to whatever thread I am reading.

I personally don't mind when old threads are resurrected, it gives newer readers a chance to see things they may not have read before, and possibly get some helpful information.

It's easy to see the date on the original thread, and if its age bothers you, just scroll on by.. . . .

Shouldn't be any problem.

I have installed Unico high velocity systems in a number of houses (two I lived in and numerous others, including some antebellum and pre-revolutionary houses) and would recommended it. It significantly reduces wall damage and preserves closet space (a common location for forced air duct work). using duct-board in unconditioned spaces to make ducts has some significant advantages. One is it s already insulated, but another is that the lower mass of the duct work reduces system losses to cooling the ducts. More mass meas more heat holding ability. Once the duct warms up, it takes more cooling energy to remove the heat from a heavier duct. Flex duct has some of the same advantages, but a higher pressure loss when air is flowing. It can be accounted for, but it meas more blower HP to move the air. The two customers who used high velocity for heating quickly found the weakness. Faster moving air and the stirring of the room air creates drafts. Not very important in cooling application (remember standing front of a fan to cool off?) but a real drawback for heating. If you put HVAC equipment in unconditioned space, one alternative is to turn it into 'semi conditioned' space by erecting a light weight insulated 'room' around the equipment. Simple lightweight framing and thick foam insulation.

I have to second Rose. 1)If you are not bored and annoyed by modern construction, do not buy an old house. 2) Live in your 'new to you' old house for a year and learn how it works (circulation, privacy, ventilation,etc.), what it needs ( new electrical, furnace, or roof?) and how your lives have changed because of how you live in the house. In our first house, when we finally had a kitchen, not just a row of appliances, we found out my husband liked to cook! In our current old house where we assumed the patio should be was wrong - beautiful view, but too much wind, too far away from comings and goings to suit our lifestyle. Your house may have wonderful sunshine in its living spaces (all those windows), cross ventilation in the summer (all those doors), mouldings that make you smile (that you can only reproduce today at vast expense), proportions that ease your soul. You may find you don't use the formal spaces as they were intended, but that a 'front parlor' can be your 'family room'. The mechanical systems may need help - you should be able to improve them without damage to the character of your house. All houses need attention - the rule of thumb is to expect to spend 1/40 of a house's value every year on maintenance. Often houses have been let go, and then the new owner needs to put in much more. But then, you get to what you want. If this doesn't appeal to you, don't buy the house.

Not sure about the OP but I do genealogy and thoroughly enjoy tracing the roots of all my family dealings. We don't know much, but what we know is precious. OP, hotels change names frequently of course but the library or historical society (as brushworks stated) in the local area will certainly help. So would ads in old local papers if you can find them archived.

I did. What shows up are topics like 'Tuesday Trivia Quiz', Sanitize Your Shopping Cart' and other current discussions. Nothing about table runners at all and nothing from 2004!

Depends on the device I'm using, but it's driven me crazy for quite some time now. The suggestions are either unrelated, or ancient!

Yesterday I clicked on one of those and the last comment was in 2004. I have noticed several times that those are really old threads but have also wondered if a spam message had been removed. Some of the old threads with new comments are simply hilarious especially when someone is definitely replying to the OP telling them to do something. If the problem has not been fixed by now it is not going to be fixed.
