I remember back in the 70's I think, we were going to the SD state fair. We were from ND and my brother was showing sheep at the fair and we were on vacation so we drove to Huron to see the fair. We had never seen roadside stands before that, I was just amazed at them. I had heard or read about them before but had never seen them. About a year ago I saw a stand by the road at a Hutterite colony here in SD, That is the only times I have ever even seen them around here. I have seen some in Michigan when we go there. Some of them have people working in them and some are just a can to put money in on a trust basis with the prices posted.

We travel one particular stretch of rural road about once a month. There is nothing there but corn, corn corn. It seems like just last month, the corn was just filling out. This weekend, all of the stalks are brown and they're starting to cut them. How did that happen? What happened to summer?

They probably sprayed Round Up on the corn to speed up the drying process so it can be harvested and stored before winter.

We have several family owned garden centers that close up shop after July 4th. See you next season says the signs.

The hummingbirds are leaving, no adults are left, only babies. That's the end of Summer for me. :0)

I've never riced cauliflower. That sounds labor intensive, but really good!

The only sign of fall I've seen so far is that some of the leaves are starting to turn and pumpkins are staring to show up at the farmers markets. I'll miss the summer tomatoes, but not much else. Looking forward to fall and the cooler weather that it will bring.

Leaves are falling here and it was in the 70's for two days , but 90's will return. Can't wait till fall.

64 here this morning. 72 is our high, so fan only mode on HVAC, windows opened, and glass being cleaned, preparing for fall to arrive.

CONSTANT ping, bang, clink, ping, bang as the acorns fall is a sure sign of fall. It is already dangerous to walk in the yard. The hard nuggets roll and can roll your feet right out from under you!!

I live at the Jersey shore and when the sandpipers show up the first 2 weeks of August, fall is coming. But best of all, traffic goes away mid August as the high school sports start and the second homeowners/tourists don’t come down on weekends.

Plus I had to put on a sweatshirt today in my yard.

Down here the farmers' market and garden centers are open year round. Can't wait for an October visit to the nursery. I'm ready to ditch the vincas and replace with Bubblegum petunias. They were so pretty last winter/spring.

Hummer activity has picked up as migration kicks in. Still just seeing Ruby-throateds, but I'm expecting a returning winter Rufous any day now.

Lowes Halloween displays are in full force since a witch was standing in the isle to greet me, you know those moving full size mechanical ones that laugh when you pass by them, and the mums were brought in a week ago. I remember when I was waiting for the spring plants to come in. And doesn't it seem that all of a sudden the days are getting much, much shorter every week? Depressing.

School buses are going past the house. I'm seeing grasshoppers. The farmer mowed and raked the hay field across the road for a second baling. Yes, the sun is setting earlier and earlier. Now the cats go to the cellar for supper and bed around 8:30p. instead of 9:30pm.

There is such a thing as meteorological seasons with fall starting September 1. Meteorological seasons have to do with the rotation of the earth. There are various things that effect both the rotation and the tilt of the earth that may account for some of what people are seeing with migration of birds and other things.

The wildfires along the west coast with all of the millions of particles being released into the air can cause temporary temperature and light changes in areas that mimic darkening days. It will be interesting to see how those particles effect what type and amount of moisture falls this winter.

Our grand daughter starts 4th grade the 1st week of September. Fall is near as we school a new member of society to replace an old one who will pass beyond.

Our morning chorus has left town. Every year, every morning, March through August, at 4:30 AM several robins gather in the tree outside our bedroom and start singing. It's been a few days of silence.
