I don't follow appliance sales but is this the time of the year when appliances are like specials, kinda like memorial day, etc....

The shocks on my Miele Washer is going south. Need to be proactive about replacing vs. reactive, moreso as the least thing I want is for the machine to start ~walking~ and fug up the custom white lacquered cabs, countertops in the laundry room....

So I went to my local appliance shop and I cannot get the Miele LG with a 10 year...short story, but I often get a 3rd party with my appliance shop on 10 years, as they often will SUB out premium brand repairs not to general techs but manuf. branded techs, WHICH is quite the savings hoot. And let's face it, premium brands IME seem to be more issues than consumer brands. So it's sorta like a Mielecare 10 year without the MC price and besides, MC is not available beyond 5 years in the USA.

I can get the 3048 with the 10 year from him though as the LG is delivered from Miele direct, wheras the latter is sourced from *him*

Like I say with our German cars, great to have under warranty, terrible without.

Which led to to just look at other machines. I know it's not a fair comparison, but I'm just looking at the LG combo, with sidekick, etc.

I don't know if Black Friday or just this time of the year is the time, but a quick look online and it's price okay.

2 Years ago, my sister moved and she went with a similar LG rig. I was concerned about the infamous water hammer issues. Did not even get around to installer hammer arrestors sofar but she ain't got no complaints.

I guess I'm just on my soapbox for this rainy day weekend.

I know they are not apples-apples machines..Kinda like we went went on Vacay, and I hated the Escalade we rented , Bad analogy

In both houses we have Miele canisters...we have all Miele DW, including the PG series. We're Miele fans, but ehhhh, if I can't get it on a 10 year warranty, as most things really occur during year 5 or 6, not sure whether I'm looking to spend the spend...

Heh. Went back to look at more washers. I'm leaning on just giving Miele a call tomorrow to see what the cost would be and whether they are actually willing to send/sell a *consumer* a part, but a WAG on a pair of suspension legs will probably run $150-$200+ based on my brief google of what they sell for overseas.. IF I had the time or the gusto, I would probably just teardown the machine to get access, remove the shock to see what the ~OEM~ markings on it, and source it, but time, etc is probably going to cost just the same than the 2 Benji's the new legs will run.

Yeah, the LG's I had considered, while feature rich, just felt ~cheap~. I'm sure the wifey would have loved the gimmicks though....

I'm a huge ger-man'ish fan....our cars, my wrenches, lol. Hell, most of my finer woodworking tools originate from the teutonic state

Sorry to hear about the KA issues. I was concerned as well when I got a KUDE70FVSS model in February 2010. The vent is located on the left side of the top edge of the door, next to the controls. It is not on the side of the door. KA's are deep and most will not fit flush under normal depth cabinets I hear. We have about a 1 1/4 inch granite countertop overhang which happens to be about the thickness of the door. So in our case we pushed the DW back until the door was lined up with the cabinet fronts but the door is completely underneath the granite countertop. It actually looks pretty good. (Our old WP was flush mounted with cabinet matching panels installed) We put the moisture strip supplied by KA on the bottom of the granite, for no good reason but figured why not. There is a small strip of cabinet under the granite that forms the top of the cabinet opening for the DW that is, of course, wood. If I put the moisture strip on it, it showed since the strip is a shiny material, so I left it off. I kept an eye on it for months to see what happened and I have never seen any moisture or noticed any steam coming from the vents at all, regardless of the time of day we run the DW. The wood under the granite and all around the DW looks fine and has never shown any sign of getting wet. Not sure what system they are using in this model but apparently it does not suffer from the same problems as the side vent models.

Ahh, that's a major difference in how we do laundry. Most (everyone) people I know save up their laundry and do it all on one day, known as "Laundry day!" The machines otherwise just sit idle. If you're doing 1 load every day, you could just put it in and go about your business until it's done and you wouldn't really notice the cycle length. Just a different approach to a common problem. Here you pretty much have to dry everything in the dryer because of the temperature outside. Our houses are built so tight that any excess humidity either has to by mechanically removed or it breeds mold. Triple pane windows, 6-12" thick walls with fibreglass or foam insulation, 12-24" of insulation in the attic, etc. We have a dehumidifier for the summer months. Many newer houses here have air-to-air heat exchangers to provide fresh air year round without exhausting large amounts of heat. The most popular brand of HRV (hear recover ventilator) was actually founded in my city many years ago. Perhaps Miele directs more R&D Euros into the washers than the matching dryers? I understand that many Euro households don't even have a dryer. You would never see that here. Canadian laundry requires a washer and a dryer, period. Most of our quality problems surround the dryer. Nine months in and we're already on our second one and it's not going to last. Lip2000, I don't have a problem with the price of a Miele as long as they last. I'm sick of the "disposable" appliance culture here in North America. If our washer and dryer actually made it to 20 years like Miele suggests they should, they would be far cheaper than 10 2-year Kenmores. My problem is that they don't inspire confidence when parts fall out. All in all, Miele has failed us on every measurable: Performance Build quality Service

My thoughts? First - what do you want and need in a washing machine besides a strong assurance of low vibration? Do you need any special cycles? Do you often like to do hot washes? Etc, etc... A machine that may not do the wash cycles you desire, but has low vibration is just a different set of trade-offs from accepting some vibration but doing the wash as you desire. Getting the wash done to your requirements should be the primary requirement and then look for the lowest vibration. You have a second floor laundry room. With this type of setup the big questions for a HE machine are: 1) How quickly can you get hot water to the machine? 2) How hot is the water from your DHW source? Since the Samsung will only use it's internal heater when doing a sanitary cycle, the answers to the above two questions will really determine what the machine can do temperature wise. Our 2nd floor laundry room has a dedicated, insulated PEX hot feed directly from the DHW tank. I checked the other day and the hose fittings felt hot within 10 seconds of the start of flow so it's getting the hot water very quickly. With our DHW set at 131F, a hot fill at the machine was still only about 110F. The SS drum and clothing suck up a lot of energy. In a machine whose internal heater only operates in sanitary, that would be the best we could do for a hot wash. With less optimal piping, it wouldn't even be this good. If we set our DHW source to 140F, I'd guess we could get a ~115F fill. Some people don't care about, or never do hot washes. If that's the case, the Samsung or any machine with no/limited internal heater would work fine. Anyways, just a consideration thats very important to me. FYI - Whirlpool and many LG's (certainly their top of the line) will use their internal heater in a number of cycles (but not all) besides sanitary. Samsung's answer to this would be their silver care stuff. Believing in this vs. actual hotter temperatures is a leap of faith. Also have to consider the environmental and unknown nano health issues of the "Ag" approach.

The better thing about going to purchase the LG washer/dryer at Best Buy rather than Home Depot is the warranty. At Best Buy, I purchased the LG 2487 and the 7177 dryer and a warranty for 5 total years covering everything was $200. Try getting that at Home Depot! Also, Best Buy has their own service team wheras Home Depot has to use an outside source which to me means more people to have to go through if there is something major that has to be replaced. My experience with Best Buy warranty's in past has been exceptional. And, even though they aren't supposed to honor it, I bough my machines on sale and used the 12% off coupon (which is supposed to be off regular selling price and on one item only per purchase) on the set and including the stands for both. Got a tremendous deal and nobody could have beat the deal we got (and warranty was a great piece of mind from Best Buy). I have had problems with warranty work from Expo (a Home Depot company in the past). Anyway, machines are great and we have had them since last November (2006) without a problem. Just make sure when your wash is done, you leave the washing machine door open to dry out or you may have the same problems the Maytag Neptune we replaced had with mold. The drainage on the LG machine is great and so far, no problems.

Are you referring to LG machines from Korea, or the Miele Little Giant. Big difference. I can't tell from your initial post. But you mention that the LG is coming from Miele so I am assuming you are referring the Little Giant. This may confuse others as well.

Ha Enduring. You are right. My short form typing when typing LG was literally meaning both little giant and LG Electronics...

While I have not done a deep dive in depth analysis on the featuresets/etc of the Little Giant vs. the highest end LG, my head was swayed towards the LG Electronics as I was not able to get a 10 year warranty for the Little Giant. IMO or the luck of the draw, things usually go bad either in year 3-6, but after year 6, for sure IMO, things of these are best served under a warranty as the 1st visit literally pays for itself....

I went to Home Depot today and could not get past the plastic on the LG...granted the youtube video I looked at intrigued me, it was not even a fair handshake on build quality vs. the Mieles.

So I am going to give Miele a call tomorrow to see what the parts costs will be ~if they will sell to a consumer~. If it's $250 or less, I'd be willing to just take a half crack shot and replacing the struts myself. Anything more, it might sway me towards other options.

The cost for the Little Giant is not the issue. My beef is the warranty period.....When you spend 4K for washer, only to have a repair in year 5 1/2 or 6, only to find out it's going to cost #$$% in parts and labor.

Truth be told, I remember the simpler days when I had ~consumer~ grade appliances and I can't recall ever needing a repair on any. They just ran and ran and ran...

Almost every pro-sumer grade appliance I've had, to some degree has needed some level of repair here and there and then some !

Too bad Houzz doesn't have emoticons support. I would put the one where one is ~slapping the forehead~ emoticon on this update. New shocks on it's way from the closed parts mode structure from Miele. Cannot believe how much I paid for a pair of shocks.....

Start a thread on your project of replacing the shocks please. I would love to follow that, because I have 3 Mieles and 2 are older ones that I might have to do the same thing to, lol.
