@orange orange: between all the lawsuits against manufacturers of front loaders and the ongoing problems of the seal, mold, mildew and smells, the sales of front loaders have gone down - at least here in the US & Canada.

Front loaders came first in EU and have been very popular before appearing in the US & Canada after the 21st century hit the bell. Sales had steadily risen until problems appeared.

Not everyone with a front loader has problems, but apparently enough people had to file class action lawsuits against 3 major manufacturer. Those lawsuits were eventually settled out of court even after claims were dismissed. CR also states that there are possibly other reasons why top loaders are the preference.

Even so, GE has introduced changes in the front loader to combat the ongoing problems many of the machines seem to have. CR has tested the new front loaders and gave it an average rating. Although front loaders lead in washing performance they don't do as well in other areas.

As always, the consumer purchasing power belongs to those who buy based on the total package presented by the manufacturers. I posted the statistical information and details from CR above including a link, but in case you missed it,here's a link to the recent Consumer Reports article.

I know, when my old agitator top loader died, I went with the HE top loader model simply because of all the reports and lawsuits that were attached to front loaders as well as the hefty (at the time) price tag and very long run time. All those reasons affected my decision 8 years ago.

In the meantime, enjoy your front loader. You are one of many whose machine works nicely without any problems.

I prefer my front loader, too, in terms of water savings, lack of sound, and ability to both clean and remove water from laundry in the spin cycle. That said, it definitely requires regular maintenance that my top loader did not. You must run it through a cleaning cycle now and then, drain the “sludge” via the tiny hose at the bottom, let it air dry after use, and periodically clean all around the seal. So far, the pros outweigh the cons.

Where are the hookups and valves in these photos? How can you run a countertop to the wall without holes for the pipes?
