Second Floor Laundry - Water Shutoff/Leak Protection

last month

We have our new laundry room going in. Washer and dryer pair under a window, so the shutoff right now is roughed in behind the washer. I will ask if it can be moved left, so accessible above countertop (I don't care about unsightliness) so we can use the one ball valve shutoff for hot and cold. That would be ideal. We have a tile floor, no drain. Should I get a metal tray or a water sensor shutoff device, or just get in habit of shutting water off? Curious what folks' reccs are...
