Well, we got the new TV (47" LG LED 24Hz), Samsung Blu-Ray with internet capability, Bose speakers, new DISH, and wireless router all set up this weekend. The Netflix download went perfectly, (2.1 download speed, as tested) so this morning, I changed my account to get Blu-Ray discs when available but only 2 discs at a time, down from 3. What we can't believe is the improved quality of the old DVDs now played in the Blu-ray player. Amazing! Thanks to all. We now only need to figure out what to do with the remotes. I like the DISH remote a lot more than the old DirecTV one, but Jim wants to use the Harmony remote that we saw in Costco. That will take us a little experimenting to see if we want to go with the other remote. We really only watch movies about twice a week anyway, so we may be fine with the DISH remote plus the speakers remote fr most of the week.

The firmware can usually be updated via an internet connection, a CD-R, or a USB thumb drive. I have found from testing prototypes, the most reliable firmware upgrades are usually from a USB drive first, CD-R next, and the internet last. Try going to the mfgs website and downloading the update file (for the appropriate media) and instructions. A two year old BluRay player without a single firmware update is bound to have it's share of problems. Quite a few brand new players need to updated right out of the box.

I watched this weekend as well. Very touching. I also saw Nebraska. Filmed entirely in black and white about an crotchety, aging old man convinced he has won the lottery and his somewhat compassionate son trying to help him keep his dignity. The family characters really made me laugh (and sad) as I could see so much of my own family. A little slow moving but well written and acted.

I'm so glad that you watched and enjoyed it. I thought it to be pretty special. I watched another good one last night...Philomena with Judi Dench. This is based on a true story about a young Irish girl who is 'sent to the nuns' when she becomes pregnant. The girls have their babies, and are forced to work (toil) under poor conditions, only to have their babies sold to rich customers, often from America. Judi portrays the girl when she is elderly and has an opportunity to go to America to search for her lost son. As usual, Judi is riveting in this film. The range of emotions that move across her face......very remarkable. Look for it on Netflix.
