Errand days and movie rentals - Netflix a solution?
Comments (13)first off i must say, i LOVE my tivo, couldn't imagine living without it. for movie rentals though, i use my digital cable service with the "on demand" movies. it costs 3.99 for a movie and the movie can be watched any time in a 24 hour period. (this works out well if i order a movie at night when my husband is at work and he can watch it the next day while i'm at work). the digital cable service is a bit pricey at 75.00 a month, but that gives me digital cable in the bedroom with regular cable all over the house. i figure i'm probably making out on the plus side because i'm no longer paying continual late fees on the dvd's that never seem to make it back to the video store on time. my digital cable box has the built in dvr but it's garbage. i much prefer my good old tivo that we've had for 4 years now in our family room. the only problem with tivo and cable is that the tivo and the cable box have problems communicating for channel changes so i wouldn't recommend using the tivo with a cable box. it works great for cable running directly into the television though. i've thought about using netflix, but i was wondering how much control you have over the movies you get. from what i know about netflix, you have a "want to see" list and they choose for you what comes to you when you return a movie. i could see myself still using the "on demand" movies or the video rental store if i really had an urge to see a specific movie....See MoreNetflixers--streamed any good movies lately?
Comments (36)We've watched two of the four segments of Midsomer Murders, Set 22. (On a DVD from our library.) We must be getting close to having seen 100 of these mysteries. We have one more segment of The Paradise to watch. (Recorded on DVR from PBS.) I hear there is to be another season of this adaptation of an Emile Zola story....See MoreAny good Netflix movies lately?
Comments (20)We couldn't see what Netflix offered without joining. Once we could see the titles, we found very few titles of interest -- that we had not already seen! Our home library has more recent titles than Netflix. Amazon showed us what's on offer before we signed up. We found recent episodes of two TV programs we wanted to see: "The Americans" Season 3; "The Knick" Season 2. They have "Doc Martin" Season 7, but we can get that once we're home. We looked into streaming because we are on Maui and running out of titles of interest that we can rent for $1.50 from Redbox here. Movies we've enjoyed here from Redbox: Me and Earl and the Dying Girl Black Mass Burnt The Runner Bridge of Spies Truth 99 Homes The Maui library had: Black Swan The Gift Love and Other Drugs There are more titles of interest to us on Amazon, but our home library also has them now. We currently have enough 'stock' via Amazon to keep us entertained until we go home end of March. We record PBS offerings, but current series are available via Amazon too....See MoreNetflix movies, any recommendations?
Comments (60)If you have Amazon Prime, don't miss Sneaky Pete. It's 10 episodes and will definitely have another season. Brian Cranston is a producer and is one of the stars along with Giovanni Ribsi. We watched Whiplash last night. I thought it was a slow start and intense, but incredibly well done. Lion was fabulous! Passengers is really good too. I'm not a fan of Sci-Fi, but DH saw it on a flight and ordered it from Netflix so that I could see it. If you haven't seen the Crown or FEUD, they're good too!...See More- 5 years agolast modified: 5 years ago
