What about Roy's? Heard anything about it? Looks like they could have their choice there. Steak, seafood, sushi is their logo. I love Ruth's Chris. We have one four blocks from my office.

Nevermind. It closes too early for them. I am off to find seafood. He's not interested in steak (his friend is from Iowa, so they aren't thinking steak).

Check out Napa Rose, about 1/2 mile away in the Disney Grand Californian Hotel. Upscale California wine counry food. Excellent reviews and a very interesting and diverse menu.

Sigh. Everywhere closes too early. Roy's closes at 9, and Napa Rose closes at 9:30. I appreciate the help, though. I hope I find a pretty place that has good food, that stays open long enough... boy the list of acceptable is dwindling.

How late do they want to have dinner?

Are they from a foreign country? Those are normal closing times. Why would you expect them to stay open when nobody eats that late?

Worldly, but North Americans. In podunk Nashville, we stay open to midnight and later. Not "normal" to close so early? LA, New York, Boston, New Orleans, I could go on forever, stay open later. I've been doing this job and similar for 30+ years. Never been a problem before. Oh well.

Surely those closing times are the time the kitchen closes for orders, not the time they toss folks out the door.

I would expect there would be others dining late and finishing late.

I'm of the mind to suggest they dine at the hotel. I bet that will be open really late. It's probably all they will find. Maybe they can start out at one, and when it closes, head to his hotel lounge/restaurant? I dunno. I'm stumped on this one.

Don't bet they're open late even in a hotel. I've been in convention hotels where even the "24 hour room service" closed at 10:00 p.m. There are actually a lot of places in Anaheim that stay open at least until midnight, but a lot are chains or fast food. Morton's, while a chain restaurant, is somewhat high end, if a steakhouse is okay, and Google says it's open until 11:00 p.m.

Opening hours are usually listed for seating, rather than when they start vacuuming, however, and if they want to be seated at 8:30, that might be prime time at a restaurant that lists 9:30 as closing time.

Why don't you call the hotel (or a hotel) and ask the concierge or front desk manager. I'm sure they have people coming in at all hours and know the best places to recommend.

(It's been too long since I was there, and when I went to conventions there, I stayed with friends.)

Rob, take a look at the Water Grill. It's a bit of a drive, but their reputation is very good. They have one in Santa Monica and in downtown Los Angeles.

The last time I was in Anaheim was for Wondercon 2014. We don't eat in Anaheim when we go there, and we took an accidental side tour to the Disneyland parking lot by accident trying to get to the convention center. It's very confusing from the freeway - three lanes go to Disneyland and three lanes go to the convention center, and if you are in the wrong lane, you can end up in Disneyland before you know it. It happens to lots of people, and so they have a huge staff of people to help guide you back to the freeway, and they give you a sticker to allow you out of the parking lot without having to pay.

If you go south from Anaheim, you will go through Garden Grove and Westminster (Little Saigon) where there are a lot of good Vietnamese restaurants. I recommend looking in Garden Grove, which is not that far from Anaheim.

I don't disagree with the suggestions further afield, but even with a Southern California driving mentality, when I travel for business, especially a convention, the last thing I want to do is drive an hour each way just to get food. I've done it, but the only one that was worth it was Ninfa's in Houston, and that's more of a cultural landmark. The food is good, but it's the going there that's worth it, not so much the dinner. There are good restaurants in the Convention/Disney area, and there's sure to be something good that's open late within ten minutes of the hotel.

The bigger problem is, the extra time gained would be spent in driving (riding in taxis). I've already proposed McCormick and Schmick (not my top choice) as it's the happy medium. Open until 10. It has seafood. It's really close to the convention center. Ugh. But at least we all got a mind workout

Ruth's Chris. I have dined at this particular Ruth's Chris and can vouch for a very nice dinner. If they are meeting for a Friday or Saturday dinner, the restaurants will be open later than week days. There is a King's Fish House in Anaheim. Fish, lobster, crab, a full menu of choices. Not fancy. Mostly booths.

King's is probably a better choice than McCormick's. They used to have one in Beverly Hills and it was not great.

I realize McCormick's isn't the best. They don't want to drive forever to a steak place. Oh well. Closer and open later (actually, some places were completely closed on Sunday, and many many of them closed earlier than other days of the week), is what they prefer. Total bust! I looked at Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Placentia, Midway City, Fountain Valley, Yorba Linda... nothing reasonable. There was one place open to midnight that was a half hour drive there. One opened to 1AM, again, 20 minutes there. They're "settling". I don't blame them.

Anaheim is not known for fine dining - many cities are not. My brother had similar problems when he had to go to Terre Haute for work. Sometimes you just have to settle.
