He loves gas, open burners, subway tile, and recessed lighting, which are all my favorites despite being endlessly panned by a few folks. When I redo my kitchen (not a renovation, just not enough in the budget) all of the above will be in it. Because my kitchen is on the smaller side, I don't have room for an island, so will have to settle on one sink. Countertop TBD, although leaning towards Quartzite.

After reading this I regret putting my sink on the island and my cooktop against the wall. It is nice to be able to cook and face the island and living room while doing so.

@Jenn Jei I'm with you. We're about to reno our kitchen, putting in an island, and I already wanted my cooktop on the island, instead of the sink. But I can't figure out how to put in a range hood over the island. Not without adding major cost to the reno.

Reading this, I'm reassured that I'm not crazy for wanting my cooktop there (when several people told me I was ;> ), but it also makes me REALLY want it that way even more.
