Ademink-I am feeling your pain
Comments (10)I have more sympathy for your situation than I can express. My greatest fear is loosing shade. I fought with Com Ed for 6 years about a mulberry jungle I have inherited on my rear easement line. It has a single ComEd line for street lighting running through them and I didn't want to cut them down and break their power line. They show no interest. Their attitude is when it breaks they will fix it. If I break it I will be billed for the repair. I've had my fill fighting with thousands of mulberry seedlings, poison ivy, wild grape, and tons of mosquitoes, So finally I plant to remove all the underbrush and build a new bed there. Knowing how that goes, my greatest fear is that after all the work a storm will cause the line to break. Then ComEd will come in and cut down all the trees on the easement including the black walnut with an already established hosta garden under it. In doing it they will be merciless and totally destroy everything I have done and the habitat to redevelop my hosta gardens. Les...See MoreMy new year's eve party...
Comments (8)Scissors, you bet I thank them! I grew up with a father that plowed snow for the county. Many holidays were spent without him. I am careful to give all road crews, not just snow plows, plenty of room, and slow down for them. We are very spoiled. When dad first started with the county, they only put cinders on the intersections and hills. They didn't start plowing until there was 4" of snow on the roads. They didn't have salt when he first started. Then they would put just a little salt in with the cinders. Now, if they don't salt and plow right away, everyone has a fit, and doesn't know how to slow down and drive. Mind you, going toooooo slow is also dangerous. Remember to gently pump your brakes instead of slaming them on to stop, keep a bigger distance between you and the other vehicles, ect. Comments (18)I sure know how you feel. Stoney, look at that time as a gift. We don't always get that special extra time with our grown "kids." I know you'll miss him, but be proud of him because he has pulled himself up with love and support from the family, and that is really special. 3-1/2 hours is not so much, and you can see him often. You could even both drive and meet mid-way for an afternoon or whatever. Our sons visit often, but I always feel a tiny bit of sadness in a corner of my heart when they go. But here's a HUG for you because you are feeling sad. Glad things are turning out ok for your DS. Susan...See MoreIdiot.
Comments (22)Thanks so much for the commiseration and encouragement! I wish I could buy into the notion that if I don't "tell", it's as if the mistakes never happened - but I'm not able to convince myself that's so. Still, I am going to make a concerted effort to embrace any flaws in my work. Machines make perfect pieces. Hands carry the the thoughts, feelings, and activities of the creator into the piece, and if it's less than perfect, well ... it is what it is. (Truly, I am going to try to think this way from now on!) I began my project again last night, and unbelievably had to unravel a few inches when I realized that I'd lost count. And this, after making sure (or so I thought) that I was on top of things. I guess I do need to adopt the strategies mentioned above of having every step on index cards (great idea, by the way!), and marking my pattern as I go so I'll be sure to know at any given time where I am along the way. My problem is that even with four rows to knit, I can lose count at row 2! DH can walk into the room and start talking to me, or I can become engrossed in listening to something on tv, and before I know it, I can't remember for the life of me if I've just knitted row 2, or if that was actually row 3. Good grief. If that doesn't make a person feel like their mind not only wanders but takes complete vacations, I don't know what does. Trail - I checked out Saori weaving and am fascinated! I did, however, make the "mistake" of looking at prices on looms. Oh my. It's certainly a lot more costly than buying a couple of knitting needles and going to town. Still - what a very cool concept that is! This thread has reminded me that there are any number of other things that I have tried and determined I stink at too (golf being one of them, so I can relate to "SAGA International!"). Cooking also. Like Trail's DH, I can manage to skim right over an ingredient in a recipe, and of course, the end result always suffers. Skiing? I can't even imagine how difficult that must be! And anything that has to do with electronics completely baffles me, even if it's explained in the simplest of terms. If I find I'm not adept at something, I'm very quick to throw in the towel - but there's something about knitting that compels me to keep at it. And that, I do find encouraging in its own weird way. Oh yeah - I back into the grass every flippin' time I have to pull out of my driveway. ::sigh::...See Moremamapinky0
