My new year's eve party...

OK I'm feeling sorry for myself. I had my meatballs made and cheese dip for chips. I was all ready for the party at a friend's house. We even made it to the party, briefly, when hubby got called in to work again. This has happened the last 4 years in a row on new years eve. I thought this year would be different. We haven't gotten any snow until tonight. GRRRR.

If you haven't thanked those that clear these roads, you all should do it now. He's out plowing so that the rest can get home safely.

OK done with my pity party now. Just needed to vent. Happy 2012 everyone!

I think next year I'll get movies to watch and won't plan on going to a party. Then the snow will stay away. LOL. What are you all doing?

Sorry. We do appreciate the job your DH does. SO got the virus so I'm watching tv and surfing.

Dreamgoddess, I keep going back and looking at your table. I really like your centerpiece. It is really pretty and your selection is perfect. Karen, You would be surprised at some of the simple meals we have when I do a special table setting. DH & DS wanted pizza New Year's Eve so it was pizza & movies in front of the tv. We had our traditional New Year's Day dinner on the table I set. DH gave a wonderful performance of being overly careful with his ever present Tabasco sauce and we had a nice dinner. It even felt "right" eating black eyed peas on the sparkly table. LOL Luvs, Several years ago there was a small group of us ladies that did a coffee/cake morning once a week. My house was the central location so we always had it here. I provided the coffee, but the other ladies provided the goodies and they would never let me clean up afterwards. Some moved away & some started working so it eventually ended, but it was always a lot of fun. Blizlady, I hope you find the snowflakes. I went to our closest Dollar Tree several days ago and almost all of their Christmas was sold out. If you can't find any this year you probably will find them next year.

Azzelea, My comment really wasn't directed so much at you, specifically. This is actually the comment that bothered me the most: "Maybe the gal has a 'problem' and has frequent accidents. Maybe that's why it's in hubby's name. She could have lost all she already had, and he don't want to lose any more." My husband and I carpool to work every day. He drives, we go to his office and he gets out and then I drive to my office. I pay $100 per month for parking (it's $175 per month to park near my husband's office). At the end of the day I drive to his office to get him, but he usually drives home. However, there are plenty of times when I go to an appointment during the workday, or run errands at lunch, etc., when I am alone in the car, so I am clearly driving my husband's car. If, Heaven forbid, I should get into an accident, I guess Leslie would think less of me because I'd be driving hubs' car, not my own. And Liz's comment confuses me, too. "All of our cars are registered in both of our names...as well as insurance...we just list me first on mine and him first on his...so we don't have to license 3 cars in the same month...mine gets licensed in August and his get licensed in April! (our birthday months)" Here in California, the month in which you have to pay the registration fee on your car has nothing to do with your birth month. It's an annual renewal based upon the month in which you first registered the vehicle. (And I still don't understand how putting her husband's name first on his vehicle's registration means that the fees are due in his birth month -- unless the state of Georgia ties the two events together...)

Thanks for sharing the various ways you chose to ring in the New Year! So sorry for those of you who are fighting colds/flu and other illnesses, That is not the way you would hope to start the year! bpathome-we had boeuf bourgignon too! We served it with roasted vegetables and crusty French bread. As is typical, we had so many appetizers that we grazed all night. hhireno-I had to laugh at your comment about wishing you had more of those yummy little treats to start today. I made eggnog French toast with the left-over French bread and topped it off with left-over whippped cream and fresh raspberries (from last night's trifle). Then we had an extra bottle of Prosecco, so we "had" to make Mimosa's to go with it! Decadent for sure, but so yummy! We used to go to First Night in Boston, first b/k and then with kiddo's. Now we prefer to lay low in town and have friends over. We are on the Cape for a few days to relax and recharge. I did a long walk today and plan on walking the beach in the a.m.

I've had so many electronic weirdnesses this week, Floral! I had no idea they were world-wide. OTOH, I was told by the cable tech help said I couldn't get get the cable remote to control the sound box volume without changing the control button, and told by TV tech help that I couldn't make the remote on my new TV control the external sound, but I figured out how to do both (the latter is necessary for the former)! Well I did stay at the party for a bit and caught a ride home with someone that was driving right by my house but she had to work early in the morning and couldnt stay late. I didn't want to get a ride from the other that was going by my house since he looked like he was getting drunk. I'm not sure about his wife though, she was probably sober. I figured they'd be there longer than I wanted to be there and didn't want to take a chance.

Tell you hubby thanks for doing the roads. Here in ND in my area, they are snowy and icy and it is very windy. Don't know how many in the ditches, but I bet there are a few.

If the forecast is desperate, perhaps just drive separate?

And give some room to the plows. They don't have very good vision of what's around them. They have to move fast enough to throw the snow far enough off the road and if it's the powdery stuff, it's snowblindness at times.

Scissors, you bet I thank them! I grew up with a father that plowed snow for the county. Many holidays were spent without him. I am careful to give all road crews, not just snow plows, plenty of room, and slow down for them. We are very spoiled. When dad first started with the county, they only put cinders on the intersections and hills. They didn't start plowing until there was 4" of snow on the roads. They didn't have salt when he first started. Then they would put just a little salt in with the cinders. Now, if they don't salt and plow right away, everyone has a fit, and doesn't know how to slow down and drive. Mind you, going toooooo slow is also dangerous. Remember to gently pump your brakes instead of slaming them on to stop, keep a bigger distance between you and the other vehicles, ect.

Think of how many lives he might have saved, that will make you feel better. Happy New Year and thanks to all those that have to give up their pleasures to make life easier and better for us.
