Project Runway 01-16-08
Comments (16)Hi Kids, Well...did you watch? I watched it this morning at 11:00 and I guess I would agree with the decision of the Judges. Kit was the one who was 'out'. I really liked Kit a lot. I thought she had a quiet, understated talent. But in this challege, she came up short. This was a team challenge. Teams of two were selected by Heidi pulling buttons out of the bag. The challegne was to design an avant-garde, over the top gown that was to be inspired by a hair style. The models were brought out onto the Runway, all with BIG hair. The designers had to choose a model with hair that was inspirational and, design an outfit around the hair. In the middle of construction, Tim arrived to inform the teams that they also had to come up with another outfit that would be a companion piece to the avant-garde gown. I thought the challenge was a good one and some of the designs were amazing. Christian and Chris won with a HUGE gown that had layer after layer of ruffel and flounce...head to foot. I guess it was beautiful but I would have no idea who or when it would ever be worn. It was made using 45 yards of fabric. On the right shoulder sat a 'wing', also made of ruffel and flounce that extended up about 3 feet and was about 2 feet at the widest part. It was supported by wire which was hiden inside the fabric. Their second outfit was a silk-ish tan pencil skirt with a lighter, silkish, sleevless top with a ruffel down the front. It was OK. Jillian and Victoria came in second. Their model had long blond hair and had been given a 'flow-hawk'. Jillian and Victoria made a beautiful, double breasted, form fitting Trench coat in a black or navy. It was long and flowing. Under the coat the model had on a white shirt and a pair of brown jodhpurs. It was a really sharp outfit that fit perfectly. Their second look was a simple dark dress that was short and off one shoulder. It was OK. Rami and Sweet P had problems and came in third. Rami made a lovely, flowing, draped gown. The top was a floral corset that was visable only on one side. The other side was an off the shouder drape that extended down the front of the gown and into an open and flowing skirt/bottom. It was beautiful but a little 'more of the same' from Rami. Under the gown was a pair of pants that Sweet P made...not very well. Sweet P did their second look that was a short dress with a satin 'facing' top over the base fabric which was silk, empire and short. It was very cute. Kit and Ricky...their model had a big mess of teased hair that looked like a birds nest. They decided to make a gown over a hoop skirt of multi layers using different fabric, both print and solid, all bound with satin on the lower edge. Over the top was an apron made of some, almost not there, fabric. Their second look was a halter dress in a floral with pockets. Cute but not worth much. Christian and Chris worked very well together. They were fast, not much drama, stuck to their vision. Jillian and Veronica were two type A personalities butting heads, but it worked. Rami took over. Sweet P could offer nothing that Rami was interested in. She was left to make the pants and the second outfit. Rami did not make a very good team leader. Kit and Ricky worked very well together. Ricky did what Kit told him to do and stayed out of her way. They talked about their design, she listened and appreciated his input. In the end, their design was just not 'over the top' enough. Ricki did the second look which was dull. Whew...I'm sure I have missed a bunch of stuff and may have added some stuff that is not accurate, sorry. But...what did all of you think of the show as you saw it? I am amazed that Sweet P is still there. I like her but, she is in WAY over her head. Kit is a better designer than Sweet P, as was Kevin. I like this show. Not always crazy about the judging. Michael Kors can be hyper critical as can Nina... but, I like Project Runway. sooey...See MoreProject Linus
Comments (35)I can honestly say that crocheting for charity saved my life, literally. Five, six years ago I was in a very dark place. My son had sustained life-threatening injuries in an accident. I could hardly function for the crying and worrying. Then we got hit with back to back hurricanes. The county flooded. Families had to evacuate. Kids were left with the clothes on their backs and flip flops on their feet. School opening was delayed by a month. It was that bad. We're a small, rural county. People just started pulling together. Wal Mart donated shoes and sneakers to every school aged child. Others donated clothes. I started crocheting. I got out the scraps. I started making hats and mittens. Eventually I concentrated on hats because I could get more hats done in the time it took to make a pair of mittens. Someone saw me crocheting at the library and asked what I was working on. So happens, she was the president of the ladies auxiliary at her church. She asked for donations of scraps and passed them on to me. By the time Christmas came around, I had more than 100 hats that were distributed through the schools. I kept going. I worked like a crazy person for 3 years. It was a mission. Eventually, every kid that wanted one, got a hat. I'd go to Wal Mart to shop and see a kid in a hat I made. It made me cry. It also helped my smile again....See MoreProject Linus #9 complete
Comments (68)Oh Annie! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! ! ! ! You've definitely gone above and beyond the call of duty! I, too, want to learn this stitch, but haven't tried it yet. The instructions and pictures here will help so much! ! I have no idea what I want to make with it yet, but I'll come up with something! My crochet 'skills' aren't good at all anymore, it's been probably 20, maybe more, years since I've done much of it. With the exception of a toddler blanket I made for my newest great granddaughter 2 years ago. I found out real quick on that project just how 'rusty' I am! ! ! Anyhow, there was no Internet available back when I was doing so much crochet, one had to rely on books and magazines to learn new techniques. So I'm finding so many new (to me) stitches, patterns, yarns, etc, it's very exciting. I want to try them all! Unfortunately, I now rely a lot on closed captioning when watching TV, so my crochet time is cut quite short. Thanks again! Comments (10)The difference between these tiles and the Gucci purse from TJ Maxx is that you only buy one purse and it's not that noticeable if there are a few things "off" about it, because it's just hanging from your arm/shoulder and moving and not the focus of the outfit. The tile, if they are seconds, means that they are ALL a little off, and when you lay them all down next to each other, the small differences will all become magnified and more noticeable. And they will all be off in different ways. Tile is one of those things that, unless it is a really rustic, handmade style, is MEANT to be uniform, and you are guaranteeing that what you get will not be uniform. Additionally, the only tile installers that will install it will be either the extreme pro, who will charge extra for the labor needed to make it look ok (note, it will not look great, just ok) or the tile setter with very little experience or very low standards who doesn't understand the challenges these tiles represent. He will say "sure, I can lay those tiles, it will look fine" and then when you complain about the installation he will tell you that the tiles are the problem and you should have expected the result. Go read some threads about bad tile installations (most of them are bathrooms or backsplashes, but the concept is the same) and you will realize that you don't want to go down the road of having cheap tiles and an less-than-expert tile installer....See More- 21 days agolast modified: 21 days ago
