What Have You Been Doing This Week?
Comments (11)I started a two week consulting job last Monday morning so have not been online much this week. Monday evening I attended a photo class. I now volunteer for the state of California monitoring the endangered Least Tern nesting grounds at Huntington Beach so I did that last Tuesday morning. My new client was kind enough to let me honor that commitment. Last night I attended a high school tennis team awards banquet for the boys my husband coaches. Today I took a photo class and tomorrow we are celebrating Mother's Day since my daughter couldn't make it to town last weekend. Monday is her 28th birthday so we are celebrating that as well. Comments (14)We're getting ready for our 21 year-old granddaughter's visit. She flies in Saturday morning and we'll pick her up in Orlando. She's just a sweetheart and I haven't had her all by herself since they moved from Florida when she was 3 or 4. Guest room is ready and just need to do some last minute clean-up. I'm so excited!! She's a great photographer and takes all the pictures for her college yearbook. She made me a Mother's Day card which was a collage of nature photos she'd taken. She's going to give me lessons while she's here so I can post pictures. Paid bills, made out a grocery list and a list for Wal-Mart. Did the ususal daily stuff--pick up, make the bed, etc. Dinner tonight is a chicken breast that's in the crockpot right now with a tarragon mustard sauce. We'll have that with rice and DH's favorite--peas. Still have picnic cake. I should have brought it to the KT!!...See MoreWhat Have You Been Doing Lately?

Comments (10)I too am recuperating from a cold that has run through the family. DH has it now. I have never had this happen: the sinus infection has made everything I put in my mouth taste spoiled for a week now, even toothpaste and water. I made some split pea soup, but I could not taste it to decide what I needed to do to adjust the flavor. Finally guessed at it and DH says it went from bland to quite good. He will finish it off today, and then I want to make some cream of carrot soup, a recipe we like that I discovered in my Joy of Cooking. Hope I can guess at adjusting the seasoning for that soup too. I have spent the week knitting layette items for my younger son's best friend who is expecting her first child in the spring. Right now I am knitting Elizabeth Zimmerman's Baby Surprise Jacket, which is knit all in one piece. The thing looks like an amoeba, and then you fold it up and sew two seams at the sleeves, and voila, a cute garter stitch cardigan. Next I want to knit matching booties and will select a new-to-me garter stitch pattern for them. We won't know the sex of the baby till after he or she is born, and I will crochet the name afghan after the announcement arrives. In the meantime, my son has told me the mother is not fond of all the pinks and pastel blues, so I must find some other colors for little things I want to knit. I am thinking white, red and then who knows. I'll make a newborn vest in white and another cardigan or two with matching booties. For boys, I love using super wash wool sock yarn for cute booties, so I will check out the neutral variegated sock yarns too. We are so excited for this couple who have been trying to start a family for over a year....See Moremarilyn_c
