Garden Update: whatcha doin'?
Comments (35)Hmmmm, what am I doing attempting to do right now. Well, don't think I'm nuts but... I'm digging out about two feet of soil from a planter which is cut into a slope. This will be replaced with Sunshine mix No.4 and some compost. Over the years this has been my tomato bed (5 plants) this is the hottest spot in my yard so the tomatoes have the best chance here. Last year the tomatoes didn't grow that well so this year they went into a new raised bed out in the open. We had the most fantastic summer for tomatoes, they grew gangbusters but most years we need to plant them in the warmest spot in the garden (the tomato bed). Each year I have moved the soil back to front in the bed amended it with compost and steer manure but there comes a time when it needs overhauling. This bed has a fiberglas roof high enough that on the backside I hang netting for beans. When you don't have room to grow everything you want you have to get inventive. The old soil is being tossed on a bed where I pulled out the couch grass, it is also being amended with manure, wood ashes and compost, then tilled. I've planted my garlic in the front and I'll plant veggies in the rest of it next spring, hopefully the couch grass is history. The tomatoes will go back in their usual spot next year so when it stops raining I'll be out there moving more soil. It's pouring right now YEA!!! we needed this so badly the soil is parched even with all the watering I've done. I think we've had the driest summer on record or close to it. Comments (55)Used to be an early adopter on most things, including tech and fashion (lived in NYC as a single person), but have turned into a luddite slug wrt anything but a few areas. pesky, you're behind the times with a big-screen that doesn't hang on the wall? LOL we still have our 1993 27" Toshiba CRT tv as our only one! We periodically shop for a larger new tv but we just can't seem to get rid of this one since it still works. Would be a shame to waste it. We figure when it dies, we'll get whatever is best (within our price range) then, as we did back in 1993. Don't think the new item will last as long, though :( -- that's what ticks us off about buying new technology these days. Funny thing: I got a DroidX the day it came out (replacing years of free craigslist phones). I was looking at it one day recently at the gas station, trying to navigate my little corner of it, and the gas station attendant came up excitedly -- he'd just gotten a DroidX the day before and had it *completely* customized -- he'd downloaded wallpaper, put tons of music on it, had each home page completely arranged and connected the way he wanted it...his excitement at encountering a fellow Droid owner turned to disgust when he saw that I use *one* home page and only the very basics there......See MoreWhat have you been worried about lately?
Comments (34)This da** shoulder of mine. The doctor was not happy with my shoulder, so I asked the sub therapist if we could drop the muscle strengthening and do the entire 30 minutes on aggressive therapy for the breaking the adhesion loose. I also told her I would like you working on me to finish up my therapy sessions. You focus on me and nothing else. Since them my regular therapist has been talking to other people while she is working on me worse than usual. So this morning when I went in she looked at me and asked what was wrong. I was not smiling and I always smile no matter what is going on in my life. I told her I was thinking of quitting therapy, but didn't tell her that she was the reason. Boy, she paid attention for the next 30 minutes and she got with it. She worked aggressively on me and had my muscles tap dancing. She put so much pressure on my arm she decided only to do 3 in each position. She said that's got to hurt, you tolerate pain well....yeah I do especially when I am mad. When I get mad I cry and I was near tears. Anyway she was concerned for me. I came home sore, but feeling better. Maybe the other therapist told her how I felt. I wouldn't care either way. BTW, she said she felt the shoulder drop a little, so maybe this will fix it....See MoreGood Morning on Thursday the 10th
Comments (9)It has been a heckuva week, cannot wait till next week. My boss gets married Saturday so we are heading to DC on Friday and we were busy today. Had a manicure at 8, got home and hit the ground running. My travel work was crazy and so was my 'real' job! LOL!! Last minute work getting the band (they are from L.A.) set up, finalizing the rehearsal and out of town guest party for Friday night, the Sunday brunch......and trying to get the actual work for the office done..... It's no wonder that I've been starting at 7 each morning and finishing up at 9 at night....See More- 11 years ago
