No indoor glasses when I had mine done. The big dark glasses were way too dark indoors, but I needed something in the kitchen. Bright light glared into the window right over the sink and counter. Like you, I was able to see without glasses so I was fortunate to find a pair of sunglasses at the dollar store, of all places, that graduated from dark tops to clear bottoms to shade my eyes and still let me see what I was doing when looking down. That was great!

Interesting. I’ve never heard of light adjustable lenses. How long do you have to wear the protective glasses?

Light adjustable lenses are especially good for cataract patients who have scarring from early Lasik, as was my case, or any other eye situation where it makes it harder to predict how the eye will respond to cataract surgery. The lenses are designed to be adjustable after the surgery and healing, with the application of strong ultraviolet rays. The way it works is, first surgery, then wait a few weeks as the eyes heal, then blast them with UV, then wait a couple more weeks to see how the vision is, and repeat as necessary until the vision is as good as it can get, followed by a "lock-in" procedure to keep the lenses at that strength. During this time, it's necessary to be careful not to get any environmental UV light in the eyes. This includes outdoors (even when it's cloudy) and near windows or near something that could reflect light from windows. So, I'm guessing that I will be in these hideous glasses for somewhere between two to four months. Best case scenerio, when it's over, my vision will be totally corrected for both distance and near.

Morz8, the lenses have been in the US for a couple of years and in Europe even longer. They were definitely expensive and although things like exams, anesthesia and the surgical center were covered, Medicare does not cover any of the specialized lenses. I actually went to one eye surgeon that I didn't like, found someone else who was great, and ended up spending about half what the first guy was asking. I probably would have gone with standard lenses but for my eyes, they weren't the right option.
