BM has a creamy white in their full spectrum line called Crisp Linen. It does not have black so looks good in low or gray natural light.

Do you want warm, neutral, or cool?

Tibbrix - I'd say a neutral or a very subtle warm.

snookums2 - I checked Crisp Linen but it says this is only in the Aura line. I'm not sure if the person painting ever used that.

What about on-line color consultants? Has anyone used one and what has your experience been? This shouldn't be so hard but, with the undertones that are surprising me, it is. I'm having someone paint so I need to get this color right.

I never used color consultants..was reading a lot though, lol. Online, and books, and whatnot. It can be really overwhelming.

Would you want to look into Everlasting by BM? It's a bit warmer and peach-y than Elmira White. Very similar, just a bit deeper I'd say.

I just repainted master bath in it-sometimes it very warm enveloping neutral, sometimes it's rather peach-y. But ours is a very, very bright bathroom too. It is most peachy in the mornings(morning sun) or in the evening(artificial light).

Maybe peach tones it has will neutralize your green? Much like in the article

You might check with your local ben moore store. Some of them have color consultants there for free and you can talk to them about what might work best for you.

Encycolorpedia will tell you what is in the color from a visual point of view using various ways of defining colors, it can show you shades and such of various colors and it will tell you which manufacturers are closest to a particular color, but it does so from a lit computer screen which is very different from reflected light which is what we see off a painted wall. So if you are comparing colors that are very close, it may help you decide which is more green or what the deeper shades are, but it won't tell you what would make your walls look less green.

You can also play with a color calculator to come up with a shade you think you might like, and it will generate a hex code for you which you can then plug into encycolorpedia to find which brands are closest.

If money is an issue, then do look at Pittsburgh paints. I have found their quality to be as good as BM but at lower prices. I've also found colors there that BM just doesn't have.

I was going to recommend the Maria Killam blog post on green undertones, but AprilNeverEnds beat me to it. Maria Killam is all about the undertones of paint.

I like BM Bruton White, but on my monitor I definitely see green. I prefer green undertones to others (blue/mauve/peach), but not everyone does.

I love green but it doesn't work with the new carpet. The walls were green when we moved in - or half green and half green and white striped wallpaper with green paint under it. I used primer and 2 coats of paint (3 on one wall to be sure it wasn't the green still coming through).

I have been working with someone at the paint store but so far her suggestions haven't been working out. Maybe process of elimination will improve the suggestions. I talked to her yesterday and she gave me some suggestions with pink undertones but the Maria Killam's blog seem to think a peachier off white. I have Navajo on my list to try out. I still want some warmth to the paint rather than a cooler blue tone. I'm ok with the cost of the BM paint and samples - it's more what do you do with all these little paint sample cans you have?

There is a tree outside but we see the green even when the drapes are closed and in the winter. Also with the ceiling light on although that minimizes the green tone. But I don't normally use the ceiling light.

Based on what your pic looks like on my monitor, the carpet in my master bedroom is the exact same color. I used BM Olympic Mountains (971) and it looks perfect. No green at all, just very warm.

If it makes you feel any better, the paint consultant at my BM paint store was awful too.

I don't know that the BM consultant is bad, it is just a challenge. I haven't tried the latest ones she came up with to see if they work. Who knows - maybe pink is the answer?

The BM consultant at our store was useless and didn't even have a working vocabulary. Have you looked at White Dove? She described it as a warm white. It had a gray tone to it compared to what I had on the walls. The rug and tile in the photo above seem to be grayed so maybe it would work for you yet still have some warmth. Apparently it is a very popular color.

I'm stopping tonight to pick up some colors to check out so I will add these colors to the list. The furniture and trim are oak so we are working with that too which adds a bit to the challenge. I've never run into this undertone issue before. Maybe the former owners had the same problem and just went with green on the walls! I have green in one bathroom and teal in the other so I like green - I just don't want it here.
