We are going to a party at a friend's house. If we weren't invited to a party... we'd have one at our house. I spent way too many New Year's midnights in bed sleeping when DD was small. I know it is just another day, but it is depressing to me to start the New Year without friends.

I know, Patti, hubs and I were so shocked when we found out. We'd been trying to set up a dinner & movie get-together for while, but for one reason or another one of the four of us always had something going that got in the way. Then I got an e-mail from the wife saying something to the effect of "not being able to make dinner adn a movie plans with us because there is no more us." It sucks when you're friends with BOTH of them.

Then, to top that off, another good friend wanted to get together with me for lunch one day a couple weeks ago... that's not so unusual, so I didn't think anything of it... But a few bites into the meal she started crying, and told me that she and her significant other had split up. They've been living together for over 13 years. He, apparently, had started an affair with a woman at work...

My NY Eve is gonna be so much fun! We're having the 4 GK's overnight (6 y/o twins, 8 y/o, 10 y/o --fun, SUPER kids!) We'll go to the Town Center after supper to see the light displays & then ice skate (we'll have about a 70 high here north of Houston, so the seasonal outdoor ice rink is a short-loved wonder) and then we'll go over to the waterwall and the fountain is synchronized with lights to Christmas music. And I've got the sparkling grape juice for toasting with whoever makes it awake til midnight! I am so blessed that after living 900 miles away from the GK's, we're now only 45 mins. away! Happy 2009 everyone!

Staying safe at home. Drink some champagne. Watch the ball drop in NY...east coast time and maybe stay up 'til midnight and then again, maybe not.

Going to a large party at a friend's house, taking an appetizer and a white elephant.... iffin' I can find a white elephant. LOL. Should be a fun time, but I never stay up late anymore, so will see how I do. Maybe will have to take a nap in the afternoon.

DH will leave for work about 2:00 AM on January 1. He goes to work very early the first day of every month, which makes the last day of every month here quite uneventful.

We're going to some friends house for a combination New Year's Eve/ birthday party. These are fun people and have fun friends, so I'm looking forward to it. They grew up in Tyler and left for his job. When they retired they came back. It was so good to become reacquainted w/ them.

We're staying home. We've both been so busy this week that we are looking forward to a very quiet evening. We have two yummy steaks to grill and some shrimp so we'll celebrate with them! Then just lay around on the sofas and watch the TV.

Staying home. Maybe a restaurant dinner early in the evening.

If I still have company, guess I'll be stuck at home. If I'm lucky, they'll leave early and I can toss back a few with my drinking buds.

Oh, we're an older boring couple and we'll be staying home. I'm sure there are fun things to do out there, but DH is a home-body and since we don't drink, there's really nothing going on that we're willing to risk being out on the roads with those who DO drink.

We'll be awake at midnight, tho ... we live outside city limits, and the guy across the road from us is a licensed pyrotechnic who shoots off a flurry of fireworks at midnight. Nobody can sleep through that!

For the last ten years we've put together a progressive dinner with neighbors but one of our neighbors bought a second home in Palm Springs (1.5 hours away) and invited us out there for NYE. Two nights with them and two nights with other friends of ours in PS and then home again to begin a year.

We're doing a progressive feast around the neighborhood so no one has to drive anywhere. There will be 6 couples, but only 4 stops. We decided to do country themes this year so the first stop will be at 7pm for Portugeuse food and wine, then on to our house at 8:30 for Greek, then at 10pm we move on to Japanese. At 11:30 we head to the last house (right next door) for champagne at midnight, then some Italian snacks. We'll finish out the evening there with a dessert made by one of the other participants who's a professional cake decorator. I'm so looking forward to it all! Opa!

we are going to stay home and play wii games and work on a puzzle. I have sparkling grape juice for us to drink.

Hints from DD tells me I may be watching the DGK's. I have no life outside of family/church. I was thinking about popping in at church though..the youth are having festivities and all are invited, but bring snacks!!
So IF I have the kiddos, we can stop in for a bit.

I work cleaning the operating rooms in a hospital, I am scheduled to work by myself that night, and have been assured that there will be emergencies serious enough to come to surgery. After the docs patch them up, I get to clean up the mess...

I'm taking the kids to Florida to visit grandparents. We will wait til after DD's gymnastics practice to leave, so around noon, and should arrive at my parents' around 9pm. I hesitated about spending all day NYE on the highway, but I'm hoping we'll be in the house before people start acting stupid on the road.

My mom was diappoinsted with how her Christmas went. Long story short, she cooked expecting DB and his family. But DB didn't follow through with those plans for whatever reason, and instead had all meals that day with his wife's family. (They all live in the same town.) So she is looking forward to having a houseful to feed and entertain NYE. DB may or may not be there, it's hard to tell. She told DB he is welcome to bring the family, but NOT just drop off their kids. There will be no alcohol at our NYE, either. We just don't drink. If my kids get their way with Grandpa (that's a given with kids and grandpas, isn't it?) there will be a fire in their backyard firepit and hot dogs and marshmallows.

I'll be asleep long before midnight. With a 6-month old who doesn't sleep through the night, I can't afford to lose any sleep. There's a good possibility I'll be up tending to the baby around midnight but I won't try to be up. I'd never try to be up in the middle of the night right now!

For years DH and I have been going to our best friend's (neighbor) home...We usually walk over about 7:00, sit at the table, drink coffee, eat left over cookies and solve the problems of the world..Maybe around 9:00, have a toast and be back home by 9:30...The kids always tease about not having to worry about us drinking and driving...The only year we stayed until midnight was "when the world was going to end", 2000....We enjoy each others company and what better way to start or end a year...

We will leave at 4:00 am Wed morning for a 12 hour drive to my son's house in Alabama and will spend New Years Eve with him and DIL. Dreading the long trip but looking forward to bringing in the new year with them! We will spend a couple days there.

We haven't decided yet whether we will stay at home or go to a little country bar where all the farmers and ranchers in the area go to. I guess we will decide on Wednesday.

If we stay at home, we will definitely stay up to see the new year in.

Going to a girlfriends house with some other female friends and eating and watching movies. A hen party! My ex-H (our divorce was final Oct. 24) is getting married NYE so I am NOT going to stay home alone!

The usual watching tv, nothing special, just another day.

I prefer to stay home on New Years Eve. My sister was going to go home today and then come back New Years Eve but now she says she has to go home because my new bed is killing her back and she is in pain. LOL She certainly spent long enough in it yesterday so no wonder she has a sore back. LOL

I might get myself a few appetizers, put a log in the fireplace. I might even start a jigsaw puzzle like Linda. I used to always get a big Springbok puzzle from my sister and her kids every Christmas. I will have to remind her to start doing that again instead of spending money on a more expensive gift card.

At midnight I drive the dog and cats crazy by blowing into a noise maker. Every year I take it out of the Christmas decorations box Loki barks at it and the Lucy runs away. LOL

No plans...I'm betting my oldest will come up with something lastminute...which reminds me to remind him to figure it out NOW..so that I can decide if the place he chooses has responsible parents!!! I can't believe the amount of parents that buy alcohol for their kids and others peoples kids!!!

A couple is coming over and we will hang out here at the house.....The kids Tan will be at a friends and Syd doesn't know yet but she will probably stay here....told her I did not want her out on the road.....so she will probably just stay home.....We are HOPING to stay up til mindnight but I can't remember the last time I was up til midnight or that I saw a New Year come in.....I don't want to be out driving that day or night....Stacy

Nothing really. Went over to Wegman's today and bought a couple of Prime Filet Mignons, and some champagne pate and crackers for an appetizer. Bake a couple of potatoes and make a ceasar salad.

Just the two of us. Just what we want.

Spending it in Monterey having dinner with friends. Then, on New Years Day they are getting married on the beach!

I really don't like to be out and about on New Year's Eve.
I'll be putting on my jammies, sipping bubbly, reading and cuddling up with the hounds.

Here in our small town, the local bar and the deli are getting together for a NY eve dinner with prime rib, shrimp or lobster and oh so good salads. The owner of the deli sells her products all over ND and her prime rib is to die for. Lots of locals and some not so local, then the people can stay, or not or visit etc Good company---good food. And only 2 block away even with all the snow we have and very cold weather--probably below 0

Just hanging out here. New years Eve spooks me with all the crazies, so home is good for me.

Will probably have a couple of toddies and call it good.

Nothing much. Our usual tradition between DH and me is to rent a movie, pause to watch the ball drop in NY on TV at 9PM Pacific time then toast the New Year with a glass of Champagne and some fancy snacks.

We are invited to my cousins house for a small party.
Not sure if we'll be going,as I've been nursing a nasty head cold for the past two days,and don't feel up to it the way I feel right now.Also don't want to pass the bug around.
I have the same cousins comming here for dinner on New Year's day,so have to prepare food tomorrow.
After spending most of the day in the kitchen,the last thing I'll probally feel like doing is partying.
If we do feel up to going,it's just down the street,so no driving involved...I hate to be on the roads on New year's Eve,because in spite of all the warnings,drunk drivers will be out there!

Okay, I am going to let you know what DH has decided upon! I think he is totally NUTS!!!
But, he wants the new year to be something different and the old year to go out in style.
He has paid for a limo to pick us up at 7 PM, take us to a restaurant at the
Inner Harbor in Baltimore for a four course dinner (non-alcohol drinks, party favors and music).
We will leave that restaurant and ride around the Inner Harbor for a bit (maybe hitting some other bars)
and see some of the scenes. Then back to the first place to bring in the New Year with champagne and
the view of Baltimore's famous fireworks.
I hope some of you agree with me that DH is NUTS but
I am sure we will have a good time and a lot of pics
which I will share.

We are pretty much doing the same thing as we have for the last 26 years...staying home, having surf 'n turf, snow crab and steak and a bottle of wine. Through the years the kids have been a part of it, then came boyfriends that shared it and now Kalie is off on her own, but Caryn still comes...for the FOOD! LOL We are also babysitting the little one that we watch often. They have a wedding and I told them they had to stay in the town that the wedding was in, so 'Babycakes' will be staying the night. Caryn is going to a neighbors party later on in the evening...but she can walk across the alley to her house, so she won't be out on the roads!

I have pretty much gaurentee we will NOT see midnight!

We may go to a friend's house. If not, we'll just stay home, eat homemade soup & watch movies.

We are going out for dinner w/my brothers & another couple, then at 9pm-headed to a house party at the beach. Everyone brings something and since it's going to be in the low 50's here tomorrow night-I made a big pot of Manhattan Clam Chowder today & will do my Cheddar Beer biscuits in the morning. Not a thing....DS and DIL, with Ricky and Seth are going to visit her family 2 hours away for 5 days. DS and DIL with Austin are staying home...they just moved in a house about 5 minutes from us and still have some unpacking to do. DS #3 has to work so it'll be quiet around here..very, very rare! I'm going to do some scrapbooking and watch some movies! The older I get the more I hate to leave home!

Maybe read a book or watch a movie at home, later in the evening I'll probably watch Dick Clark's Rockin New Year's Eve. May be one of the last ones. Don't have to work, which will be nice.

Going to a private party.

I have NYE club event to do from 6:00 to 8:00pm which is alot of fun. Then headed home for a cozy night in with DH. We'll watch a movie and ring in the new year by calling my mom and wishing her a HAPPY New Year (she's alone).

It's so cold and outrageously windy here today that staying home by the fire with a glass or two of wine, some snacks, a game, and DH is just where I want to be. We didn't except or extend any invitations this year.

I'm off to the First Night celebration in Monterey. One of my favorite bands is going to play this year. Don't know how well I'll do with my hearing out in one ear but I'm going anyway. I used to hate traditional News Year Eve celebrations. I'd have to be running a fever to miss First Night.

First Nights are held throughout the country. No drunks,cool art and music venues and happy people. If you have one near...GO.

I may only be watching the last five minutes of Dick Clark, because I looked at their lineup and no one I really want to see.

We went grocery shopping, I cooked scallops, fried potatoes and saurkraut balls for dinner, then went and picked up DS from work and dropped him at his girlfriends. Here I am, spending time with my friends! Then I'm going to snuggle under a blanket until I can't stay awake and go to bed, midnight or not.
