Update on our neck of the woods....things aren't looking up

Thanks guys....I am just about shot. Don't even want to go into the family drama that happened tonight resulting in me refusing to go to my sides Christmas, but if you have been around the last few years it is the same crap another year so I am not going to subject my family to it this year. Nope not gonna happen.

Good news Peyton' cyst is a thyroglossal duct cyst and should go away on its own. Hayden is starting on another 3 weeks of antibiotics and Rhiannon goes in on Christmas Eve and has her throat scoped to look for nodules on her vocal cords( the 3 were at my folks and went to the ENT dr for Peyton and had them look at the others too) Hudson is only congested in his head and they gave him another 4 days of prednisone. The poor little monkey is also in the middle of his 6 weeks of age growth spurt so wants to eat all the time, is croupy, gagging and sneezing.

We get to go back for a recheck for Peyton's cyst, scop Rhiannon's throat and if Hudson is still sick look him over too on Christmas Eve and for the first time we will spend Christmas eve and day at our own house not at my folks. I can't put my kids through the stress from my family and I am at my wits end as it is. Add to that I am in the midst of a gall bladder attack, and won't have surgery til the first of the year, I just want to spend a couple days at the hospital. The middle two are at my folks but I want to get them back asap because of family issues and just will have to muddle through things with health and happiness needin our attention at this time( being typed with tears in my eyes)I know that it is just something that we will have to wait out, but enough is enough already:)

Jackie, I leave my amaryllis outside all year-round. They get full summer sun in Phoenix and they LOVE IT! They get watered by my lawn sprinklers, but when its 110 degrees outside, there's no such thing as too much water. Java, Benadryl (aka diphenhydramine) is the active ingredient in most over the counter sleep aids. So the fact your groggy comes as no surprise. Depending on the quantity and location of your hives, may I suggest using TOPICAL Benedryl gel? Every drug store will have it, it comes in a small white bottle with teal print. You can apply it locally to each hive without the nasty drowsiness. The stuff is amazing for taking away the itch from mosquito bites too! I have a few questions related to the original topic here.... 1st, is it possible the attached pups are draining energy from mama bulb, and that's why she's not blooming? Too focused on the kids to worry about herself? 2nd, for me to grow tulips in Phoenix and get a second year of blooms from them, I dig them up, clean them up, dry them out and put them in a brown paper bag in the fridge for a few weeks. Is it possible to do the same treatment for an amaryllis to force dormancy, or is the fridge TOO cold? Mind you, if you use this method, you CAN NOT have fresh produce in your fridge.

Fortunately last sat's weather was great since a neighbor threw a pig roast with a wonderful bluegrass band. I enjoyed inspecting her new garden esp the whimsies and the birds visiting her feeders. We took our feeders in April 1 due to bears. I weeded in the morning because the pigweed in one veggie patch is way ahead of me. Sunday was drizzly so I wrapped my head in a scarf, turned the compost and weeded some more. Plants from swap at Annie's are still alive but not planted. (was away for a week) We're headed to Maine and Camden's House and Garden tour on July 16. Discussed with DH cleaning out a shady spot next to a tiny brook. Stood on location of future porch. Ogled newly cleared spot on north side of rickety old barn. DH had cleaned out years of debris and weeds. Good thick stand of ferns along the barn but plenty of room for other things. Need to research. Have to weed new area between garage and barn, part shade garden. DH built steps down steep slope and top half is terraced with stone, planted ... and needs weeding. Yellow climbing nasturtiums are beginning to think about climbing part of an old apple picking ladder tacked to the barn. DH did not know value of antique ladder before he cut it in half. Top half is in a sunnier location next to the door waiting for scarlet runner bean to climb. Almost there. White and pink impatiens in old wash tub next to granite step and rhody beginning to look good. A terra cotta planter needs to be planted. An assortment of potted plants, mostly scented geraniums are still by the kitchen porch so DH could water them (ha!) while I was away. Plucked 3 stems of variegated ivy to put in small green bottles in kitchen window over the sink. Put tomato cages on and swore that next year I would put them on SOONER. Harvested some lettuce, sugar snap peas and giant mustard. DH did not care for mustard greens stir fry but I thought it was yummy. Nobody cared for last night's yellow split pea and mustard green soup so I'll have it for lunch today and the next day and ... Harvested garlic scapes in mid-June. Made wonderful hummus. Thrilled to see volunteer pot marigolds/calendula blooming in the tomato patch. DH helped me build a bean teepee for yard long beans. Planted beans. Flunked rustic weaving. Next year need longer branches and need to use while still supple. Trying to decide if I should prune the bush planted last summer. It has about 5 branches that around getting much taller than all the others. Admired planter containing flowering lemon thyme and lemon verbena. Made note to self that I need to start taking some pictures. Surveyed holding bed from 2007 frantic move. Trying to keep a good record of what's in bloom, what color, when for future landscaping around future porch. Picked mint for spiced zucchini couscous. Looking forward to having our own zucchini. DIL brought over a gorgeous concrete leaf bird bath she made from a huge rhubarb leaf. Her aunt taught her. It still needs to be water-sealed and needs a place of honor in the garden. I missed her Wed night get together to make more bird baths with squash leaves. Despite the rain, a big huge feeling of contentment fills my chest when I spend a few moments in the garden or just looking from the porch. But time is passing so quickly. Massive renovations to first floor of house are completed. DH is taking care of heavy outdoor work. We have plenty of sun but not a lilac or rose planted yet.

Everything is bursting into bloom here. The plum trees are in full bloom so the yard smells delicious. The peach tree should start blooming tomorrow. The Mexican plum is budding, so we expect blooms from it in a week or so. The water lilies have new foliage coming out. Lots of wildflowers are in bloom--spring beauties, anemones, bluets, wild garlic, wild onion, bloodroot, henbit, chickweed and others whose name I do not know. Some of the native Chickasaw plums are blooming along a few fencelines in the Thackerville area though not yet blooming along our road a bit further north. Some of the ornamental pears are blooming...either 'Bradfored' or 'Aristocrat' or both. Daffodils are in bloom everywhere, and I saw the first hyacinth blossom yesterday. I haven't seen any redbuds in bloom yet. The iris foliage is up, and lots of herb volunteers like catnip, lemon balm, chamomile, are up. Some of the chamomile plants are on the verge of blooming. The chives are just a handful of days away from blooming. A lot of the trees are getting that fuzzy look you notice from a distance when they're about to bloom or start leafing out. All the winter weeds are growing like mad and we're going to mow them down tomorrow. Down near the river, some of the native willows are leafing out already. The native blackberries have leafed out but haven't bloomed yet. We have honeybees and lady bugs all over the place, and a few butterflies and moths. Tons of birds are everywhere. Lots of frog activity around the ponds. Spring-like weather is here, but I still expect we'll have another freezing night or two at the very least, although I wish we wouldn't. @ Belaria Seriously? Keep the brick? Nah! I'm old enough to remember when this sort of edifice was new and the latest au courant thing in all the home decorating mags. It was a terrible idea then, and is more so now. Think about it. As a cooking area how does it rate? It does not have any "countertop" on either side of the cooktop. Where do you put hot pans? Across the room? How about storage? Where are the pots, pans, condiments, sauces, hot pads, etc -- all the stuff you use in cooking? Since this bomb-shelter was built kitchen design has moved on to arrange kitchens in task groups in which everything needed for a task such as cooking is located in the area where the cooking is done. It would be impossible to do that with the bunker still in place. There is no storage in this "cooking area" to speak of. It violates at least a half dozen of the NKBA's kitchen planning guidelines. I could go on, but I'm getting a headache. Sorry, but the brick really has to go. As to the rest of the kitchen, I agree with herbflavor. Hire a cleaning service to give everything a good scrub. Update the technologies (add electrical, new faucet, sink, range, refrigerator, etc.). Leave the cabinets alone except to load them with the latest pull-outs, swing-outs, drop-outs, fall-outs and organizers of all kinds, maybe replace the tile floor, save scads of money by not re-doing a kitchen that does not need re-doing, take a nice vacation to Miranmar with the money you saved.

You all need to be in bed!! I don't think I'd have the energy to go anyplace if I were in your shoes. Just stay home, relax, call your family and tell them you miss them and have a nice day with just your little (well, not so little) family. Honestly, just the thought of getting four little ones ready to go anyplace wears me out!

I'll send a big hug, and I'm not a hugger. ;o) I wish I could help. I have been-there-done-that with sick kids, sick self, just want life to be normal again! And right before Christmas, when there is so much other stuff to do. I really wish I could just take some things off your to do list. Focus on a time in the future when this will be behind you, the light at the end of the tunnel, and take it one day at a time.

We always spend Christmas just DH, me and the kids at our house. It is the best way to go! It will be a wonderful day.

Stacie, face it....you are just totally worn out...physically, emotionally, etc. Give yourself a break, girlfriend. You just had a baby. You have 4 little ones to care for everyday. It's the holidays with shopping, wrapping, putting up a tree, cooking, and on and on. And on top of that you have to contend with your gall bladder attacks and upcoming surgery. Just typing all of this makes me feel tired enough to want to go back to bed. And you are -living- it!! I hope hubby is doing all he can to help you.

I have added you to my special prayer list. Come on here and vent all you feel you need to do......sometimes that's a stress reliever. I guess the mom in me just wants to wave a magic wand and take all your problems away right now.

I'm so sorry to hear how tough your life is right now, Stacie. I know I would be bawling my eyes out all day long. I sincerely hope you can get some rest and not stress about your family-- now's the time to hunker down and get everyone well, without difficulties from your family. Keep Christmas simple and feel better!

You're very wise to spend a happy Christmas in your home with your family instead of somewhere else with a drama-rama going on.

I have a friend, with two children, that has been married for 29 years. They have never, ever, once had the Christmas holidays in their own home. It's always been pack up the kids, pack up the gifts, drive half-way across the country, spend exactly the same number of hours at first his "family" and then her "family" (and reverse the times and meals for the next year, AND keep a diary so you can prove that they didn't slight anyone) and then rush home to get back to work.

Their kids are in college now, and don't have a single memory of their family having a Christmas in their home with their parents and tree of thier own.

I don't understand it all. I'd rather be by myself, in a hotel room in a foreign country, than have to deal with my bickering, stressed, angry, hurtful, at-each-others' throats extended family. There are a few family members I'd love to share a holiday, any holiday, with, but they are few and far between and most of them are under the age of 10 or over 80.

You hang in there. Tell the people you love that you love them and make happy holiday memories for you, your kids, and your home, and your hubby.

Stacy, many years ago when I had to have my gallbladder removed, I had to postpone the surgery for a few weeks. I went on a diet and avoided foods that caused problems and made it through fine. Stacie, I'm sorry your having so many problems with everyone's health. As well as your own. I hope things turn for the better soon. Yup, just stay home with your babies and your DH and enjoy not having to put up with the same problems of years gone by. Make your own memories happy ones.

Our kids had no grandparents, and though we regretted that they never knew my parents, our holidays were here at home. My sister and her husband joined us, and it was nice and homey. Everyone is pleasant, people are happy, it's a little noisey for our spouses who came from quieter homes, but we have a good family experience every holiday. I would NEVER subject myself and my kids to anything but a nice holiday. I don't know your story, but I assure you that you are doing the right thing. Let this be the beginning of happy holidays for your family.

Golly, your plate is overflowing!!! FWIW, the prednisone will increase the hunger factor drastically. Once he is off of it, the hunger should ease up somewhat.
