I found Bartlett pears on a Wednesday Only Special at 3lbs. for $1.00 with a six pound limit. S&W beans for 49 cents per can when buying ten. I got garbanzos, pintos, and white northern. Buy ten get Kleenex tissues, Suave Shampoo and a couple of other mix and match things for 69 cents each, plus today is Seniors day and purchases are another ten percent off. I've been meaning to post my gripe about the size of the Maxwell House coffee now!!!!
It used to be 1 kg tins, then it became 925 gr. Now it's 1/3 size smaller at 600 grams, and it's not cheaper. So far I haven't had to buy the smaller size, but it won't be long. I only have a couple of the large cans left.

However, I did find my Black Cohosh herbal pills that I use to control hot flashes 50% off today!!! It was under $4. That was a great deal!

Oh I scored some canned tomatoes for 89 cents last week. (the 28-oz can). They're usually on sale for $1.29 at best nowadays.

Because we have 5 stores in Minot, all owned by the same people and a Super Walmart, and food at KMart and Target we do not have much competation. Went to do a bit of shopping yesterday and have noticed that food is really going up, and the packages are getting smaller--or may be the same size, but the contents are less. I wish I had your prices Sue, but due to the oil workers, and others in this state, our prices are really going out of sight. Still lots of jobs, but no place to live. Some of the fast food places are advertising 15.00 per hour, you pick the shift. Even our hospital needs workers.
Due to the bad spring and flooding, our farmer's markets are way down. Early freezes also. The fresh fruit and veggies are ok, if you use the right away. They have been picked so green, that they spoil very soon.

I envy you getting white potatoes at any price, and at that price it is a steal! I haven't seen white potatoes at any price for quite a while. I like them better than Russets, even for baking if I can find some large enough.

I wish companies would quit making the packaging smaller. Now there are no 5 lb bags of Domino sugar; they are 4 lbs. They have to pay to redo their packages, so why not leave them the size they have always been. We would buy them!

I have used LandOLakes oleo for many years. I changed to Blue Bonnet this week because of the price.

I had several coupons this week which were doubled, and some of the items were on special, so I did pretty well in the long run.

I understand the need to raise the prices, I just wish they would stop reducing the size of the packages.

You can tell the "age" of a recipe now by the size of the cans, etc. listed.

I got something over 300 grams (3/4 lb.) of "Little Debbie" cookies the other day for $1.25.

But I agree that most of the food prices have been going up, lately.

I paid $1/4-pack of Dannon Light 'n fit yogurt. "IF" I'd had my coupons with me, they would have been "FREE"! :0) Mission wheat tortillas, $1/10.

I had some coupons good at a store that I really don't care about, but used them this week. The best deal was $1.11 for chocolate chips, and Folgers coffee for $7.75.

My best deal last week was 4 free boxes of Milkbones. They were buy one get one free at Publix. Milkbone.com had printable coupons for buy one get one free and you could print 2 coupons! I had DD print me 2 as well so we now have 8 boxes of Milkbones and 2 happy dogs!

I have noticed that frozen vegetable bags are getting smaller and smaller. Also, beef is outrageous. I can't find beef of any kind for less than $3.99 a pound where we are in SE Minnesota. Best deal I get is pork steaks for !1.49 a pound. I stock up and get 20 pounds and freeze it. I know it's not supposed to be as good for you but Beef is just out of sight. Also we get chicken leg quarters for $.79 cents a pound so bought 20 pounds of that as well.

No bargains here. Blueberries, raspberries and blackberries..$3.99 for a half pint at Wegmans'!!

The best deals I've seen lately is laundry detergent. We have two grocery stores in town, one a big box, but they do compete on soft drinks and a few other items. The smaller store often has better quality fresh fruits and vetables.

Last week at Piggly Wiggly, found a special on laundry detergent: $2 for a medium size jug, normally goes for $5 to $8. Bought 2 jugs. Had been buying at Sams Club, but these prices were better cost per ounce.

This week, the big box store, Pick'n Save, countered with same size detergent at $2 per jug, a different brand than the other store. Gonna buy 2 more jugs tomorrow. Won't need any more for a few months.

I haven't found any bargains in tree nuts. These have been going up steadily in price since mid-last year. Two yeara ago, I could buy a 2 lbs can of mixed nuts (50% peanuts) for $10; this week the price went up to $13 when on sale, regular price: $14. Peanuts are still reasonable, but also creeping upward.

Yesterday, I came home a bit miffed. I decided to pick up a loaf of rye bread to go with sliced ham. Wow, a small loaf was expensive, and then I spied a local brand, loaf same size as regular and lower cost. It had blazed in big letters on the end of the wrapper, RYE. I perchanced to read the ingredients. Guess what - no rye flour, dust, or anything. How can they get off putting RYE in bold letters on the wrapper when there is no rye in the bread??? I think it was wheat flour, a little Barley, and rye flavoring. Paahhh!

We have a great .99cent store here that has fresh veggies and frozen foods as well as all the other stuff.Monday i went and they had just gotten a shipment in,so i got 6 pints of blueberries for .99cents each,also got the best grapes,same brand as the ones i got in the commissary a few weeks ago,also .99 cents a bag,and red seedless as well,got my lettuce some cukes,strawberries,granola bars,and a bunch of other stuff.
DH and i go there before we go to the commissary or any other stores.People come from all the surrounding towns to shop there.

Their stuff is not outdated either,have never found anything there past the due date.They don't have name brand everything,like cereal,but the do carry duncanhines,prego,delmonte and a lot of other brand name stuff.

If you lived in the area,you'd be foolish not to shop there.It's always clean,and there are people there who continue to clean up all day.They also have lines(yellow) out in the parking lot so no one can get out of the lot with their carts.If you go over the yellow line even by an inch,the wheels lock up.

No! Everything seems to be expensive lately! I did buy a bulk pack of chicken so it would be $1.99 a pound instead of 3, 4, or $5 a pound!! I shop the sales and base our menus on that.

I also had a dollar coupon for toothpaste and found a travel size for 97 cents so it was free!

Kathi-where in MD are you?? I live in Northern VA, but my in-laws live in Anne Arundel Co. We usually visit once a month or so. I'd love to find cheap produce! That's the one thing that I feel okay splurging on. My kids love fruit so I don't want to deny them healthy foods. But I usually just buy whatever is on sale. There are times a bag of grapes (2-3lbs) could run you $7-8 dollars!! No thank you! This week I bought strawberries and cantaloupe (not from colorado).

I just sat here and ate a bunch of those grapes i got the other day,soooooooooo good and soooooooooo big.

I hear ya on paying those ridiculous prices for fruit in the grocery stores.

We grow our own oranges,lemons,peaches,2 kinds of plums,grapefruit,and nectarines.And what we don't grow other friends and my sons grow.The joy of living here in S.Ca.
