Baby names and update

So, I think we've decided on baby names. I won't get an ultrasound til November and will hopefully find out then what I'm having (my luck the little stinker will keep his/her legs crossed!). But so far, for a boy we've chosen Jaden Alexander. And for a girl we've chosen Alyvia Faith. Alyvia is the spelling I came up with for Olivia but this way it matches my older daughter's name, Alyssa. Faith is my dmil's middle name (Nola Anne from here at the KT). Three of our 4 kids hate the name Alyvia. But Jason and I love it.

This little muchkin was very much a surprise, but once the shock wore off, dh and I have become very excited. We go each weekend to look at baby stuff at least a few times, and have already been buying baby things. And dh has been buying a pack of diapers each pay period.

My mom said ever since we found out we were expecting, she always thinks of the episode from Roseanne, where Darlene and Becky tell D.J. he was an accideent, and D.J. asks Roseanne if he was an accident. Roseanne tells him "No D.J., you weren't an accident, you were a surprise". And D.J. asks "what's a surprise?", and she says "It's something you get that you didn't know you wanted."

I think that sums us up pretty well! :o)

Pammyfay, he is not actually related to me by blood. These girls have adopted us as thier parents since our DD was in 2nd grad with the new mom. Both of thier parents and step father are now gone. So we are mom & dad, as were thier parents to my DD. I have one grandson by DD, Damien, who is 9; two grandsons to be, come October when DS gets married, Manny 12, & Carmelo 7, and Gabriel makes number 6 for the "adopted" grands. I have four girls who call us mom & dad who are all friends of DD's. Between the four there are now 6 kids! I love being called mom & granny/grandma (depending on who is doing the calling!) May be changing that to the Polish version of grandma shortly, just cause we can. The kids are discovering the English/Polish audible translators on the internet, and the grands are having fun with it. Tami

Thank you, sjerin and everyone who has said such nice things. About the yogurt. It is in one of the Bayou Tales...I will eventually post it here...but one of the first possums I got had metabolic bone disorder. I called a possum expert in California and consulted with her on what to do. She told me to mix a portion of all kinds of chopped vegetables with a portion of Purina Cat Chow....had to be that brand...stir it together with enough yogurt to moisten it. I hand fed the possum for weeks and she never got any better and eventually died. I found out though that all possums love yogurt...most animals do. And I started giving them all some, since it is a good source of calcium and they have high calcium requirements. The possum...well "opossum yahoo group" wouldn't let me join, but I became good friends with one of their members. If any of you ever received one of my possum Christmas cards, she designed them. She truly loved her possums...had just one at a time, but one was quite elderly....they have short life spans...at 4 yrs. old and she even took it to an acupuncturist to relieve her arthritic pains. Anyway, she was telling me about a possum she was helping rehab and they couldn't get him to take the medicine they had for him. Their method was to take one of those little Baskin Robbins Ice Cream sample spoons and try to give him the medicine from that. I told her....that's not going to work. Under the best of circumstances, possums will gape their mouths open. It is a common behavior...even tame possums will do it....it is a response to show their teeth and growl, feign they are ferocious...if that doesn't work and they can't escape, they may play dead, or even bite you. Anyway, the way to give possums medicine, you mix it in a little yogurt. They eat every bit of it. (So see, I could have taught the experts something.) :-)) I like giving it to little possums because it is very filling and even fattening. They are much less likely to chew on each other if they are full and sleepy. I have never had a possum develop metabolic bone disorder, out of the hundreds that I have raised. Meanwhile, back at the possum yahoo group, the original possum expert...the one who taught the one that I had the phone conference with...a vet in Orange County, California, who spent 17 years studying possums, died. The possums group was beside themselves because Purina changed the regular cat chow recipe in some way, and now they were afraid to use it any more. Some of them decided not to ever feed meat based foods to their possums ever again. It made me so glad that I wasn't a member of the group. I am sure I would have made many enemies because don't tell me that an animal with 50 razor sharp, triangular teeth should not eat meat. People who can't figure out simple things like that....get on my nerves. So I am not a member of their group but I am going along without them. ;) No. I don't get any vacations. In a way I don't mind because I have traveled quite a bit...but there are a few places I'd love to go again...mostly east of the Mississippi. If my husband is home, I can go like to the iris convention for Louisiana irises in Lafayette, La. It is just three days. I haven't been in awhile but would like to go next year to see my old friends. I really don't mind staying home....I love it here. I have a million things to do...I don't ever get bored. Sometimes I get sleepy though. We do plan to do some work on the place, as soon as my husband can get back to work. If I was better set up to take care of all the animals...chickens, horses, possums, pigs...it would be a lot easier. My husband was very sick with a UTI about two weeks ago. I didn't sleep well because every time he woke up, I woke up, and he was so very sick and it was so stressful, and I felt so run down when he finally did get well. I am just now getting my strength back. I felt so wrung out. But I am much better now. I am glad you enjoy hearing about the animals. I don't think my rehab group likes us talking about them because it is their fear that someone will think they make good pets, but I always tell people, they aren't good pets, but I think by writing about them, it helps some people to understand them a little better.

Same as above. I'm sure they've been wildly busy and stressed, but I want so badly to hear he's ready for release or at home. We had a family preemie baby in the hospital three weeks earlier this year. Not only is the worry unending, the household is so disrupted with either mommy or daddy or both staying at the hospital leaving a confused toddler at home with an entirely different routine. I know we all want them whole again and leaving this happening behind in the dust.

Alyvia is pronounced the same way as Olivia?

Congratulations on your new addition but I just want to let you know that if you do go with Alyvia she will constantly have to spell and pronounce her name for everyone. When I first read it I had no idea how to pronounce it! (just to let you know I am not ctiticizing you and of course you can and should name your child whatever you want, but maybe you hadn't thought of what I mentioned).

Trust me with that spelling--she will go through life having people mispronounce her name. My name is Anne and people pronounce it Annie because it has an E on the end! I love the name Olivia. Congratulations on your great news.

i love the name olivia, but don't worry about the girls having the same "a"...trust me from a granny's point of view with a dd who insisted on abby, alexandrea, and arianna, it drives me crazy, lol...my dh is always lol'ing at me about forgetting which "a" i want when we're together!

that's one reason i resisted when i had my b/g tiwns calling them mike and maggie...he's christopher michael...she's margaret leigh...

but despite us, no matter what you chose, a healthy happy baby is what we want!! congrats...

Pretty name, but I agree on the spelling. I sounded it out and the first time I didn't come up with the sound of Olivia. After I read what it was I went back and sounded it out again.

I came up with Al-vee-uh the first time. Duh on Ya Ya!

My niece has a Livia. No O on the front. She said that she just wanted to change it up a little. LOL

I've got an unusual spelling of a fairly common name, as does my daughter.

We both love being unique. The only "downside" is not being able to find personalized "stuff" in stores (coffee mugs, key chains, etc.).

It's all good. I love the name - and she's YOUR baby to name as you please. :)

I love Roseanne. But for some reason I don't remember that episode. I think it was perfectly said.

Thank you for the congrats! Being a "Tamara", my name was always pronounced many different ways but it never bugged me, so I think I'm going to stick with Alyvia. Thanks for the different views on it tho! :o)
Yes, Steph, I'm pregnant..LOL I've only posted about it once when I first found it tho. Like I said, it's quite a surprise, but a good one. I was supposed to go Sept. 9th to get "fixed"...and well...then I had to cancel that procedure and schedule a prenatal appt! LOL! The baby is due April 5th, and Alyssa will turn 18 the following month and graduate. So we will be literally startingn all over again!

Oh my gosh...wow!! What a surprise for you then, but I'm so happy for you. It will be like starting over again, but it will be great. Congrats...and I love the names!

Let me guess...the nursery will be Mickey Mouse?? :-)

Believe it or not, nope. Not Mickey. Alyssa's was done in Mickey tho! Unless we change or mind, we're doing Pooh for a boy, or a princess theme for a girl.

Hi Mickey,

I'm just curious.... do you mean to pronounce Alyvia's name A-livia or O-livia? I think A-livia sounds perfect with A-lyssa :-) And I think it's going to be great which ever way you pronounce it!

I like the names above. When I was "expecting" and DH and I were considering baby names I said I'd like something unusual for a girl's name, a made-up name or a regular name with unusual spelling. DH said definitely "no". Then we went to see the movie "Roxanne" with Darryl Hannah and Steve Martin, a re-telling of the Cyrano deBergerac story . (Ugly man writes lovenotes to a beatiful girl for his friend. At the end, she falls for Mr. Ugly.) We both looked at each other after the movie. "The name Roxanne is perfect." And so it was...our Roxanne is now 22. Funny how things happen. Our second daughter was easier. Dad is Vic Jr., my grandmother was Victoria. So Victoria was a family name on both sides. Our Vicki, the name she prefers, is 21.

My 1st DD is Olivia, and most people pronounce it Ah livia, even though the O is there. I even catch myself doing it! And a good number of people ask you to spell it anyway! Beautiful name! I also like the name Jaden!

Stupid me, when I first saw Alyvia my mind said "Ally VEE ah". Then once, in the next few words, you referred to Olivia, it made sense.

Yes, he or she is your child to name as you wish. Again, congratulations!

I think it's cute. Have a GD named Kaylyn everyone always calls her kaylon but it's kay-lyn.
teresava, we are getting a GGD in Dec. her name is going to be Jaden only spelled Jaedyn.

It would be pronounced with an "Ah" sound, not an "O" sound.
