Yummy !!!!! Chocolate Cake....

Somewhere in the posts today someone mentioned the Hershey's "Perfectly Chocolate" cake recipe. She said Google it. (any search will get you there..)

I did , I copied it, and I made it...

Two of my grankids and I just had a small piece of it and a glass of milk.

It's so easy and one of those things you will have all of the ingredients for (well usually) It gives you the recipe for the frosting too.

We'll be having another one on the 4th.

Expecting at least 25..maybe more (my oldest grandaughter ask if she could invite her friends. I said sure. she posted it on facebook...lol...hard telling how many we'll have)It should be fun. They are to bring their food and drink (meaning soda's)

My son, son in law and grandson are working a fireworks booth this weekend...maybe we have more fireworks than we expected.

advice on cake needed!

Thanks. I did decide to make a carrot cake in the end. I bought an assorted box of Wilton's paste icing colors... I'm very happy with how vibrant they turned out. We went over there last night and I brought the cake over (on the way I stopped and got a digital camera 100 dollar Nikon at Target, not expensive buy fine for pics of food and vacuums). First we went to dinner at Kobe steakhouse (late b-day dinner for me, was nice) and then met his parents and brother back at grandma's house. His mom also brought one of her 8 birds and her english mastiff (huge drooling, but sweet dog)... that combined with the cats already there, it was a full house! I've never professed to be any good at writing in icing, but I still had fun doing it. She was very appreciative and seemed to like the cake. I used fresh ground cinnamon and added applesauce and nutmeg to the standard Joy of Baking recipe. Also made a double batch of frosting just because you can never have enough. I forgot to toast the nuts before pressing them onto the sides, but it still turned out OK. The highlight of the evening was when granny (who has dementia and cancer and all kinds of other ailments) plucked a dark walnut from the side of the cake with her bare fingers and put it in her mouth, then said, "I thought you mighta cooked a bug in the cake, but I reckon it's jist a nut!" Here's the first picture taken with the new camera. There's even a setting for food... I'm going to have to scroll through the archives and start reading those food photo tips now!

Texas Sheet cake

This isn't a Texas sheet cake, but it's chocolate sheet cake and really delicious. I got it from my sister's mother-in-law when I was a teenager. Man, she was a good cook! The frosting is the best part. It's yummy. CHOCOLATE SHEET CAKE 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter, softened 4 eggs 1/8 tsp. salt 1 c. + 1 Tbsp. flour 1 - 16 oz. can chocolate syrup Cream sugar and butter until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating until smooth. Add salt; blend in flour and syrup. Pur into a 10-1/2x15-1/2 cookie sheet with sides. Bake 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Frosting: 1-1/2 c. sugar 6 Tbsp. butter 6 Tsp. milk 1/2 c. chocolate chips 1 c. nuts (I used pecans) Bring sugar butter and milk to a boil and boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and add chips and nuts. Stir until chips melt. Spread on cake while it's still arm. Work fast--it gets hard quickly. If that happend, add a little milk.

Well, since I extended the original invite, I guess you're all coming over to my place. I'll supply the champagne and coffee and tea- I'm suggesting you bring your most decadant, gooey, fulfilling dessert-recipes please if it is one you make yourself, or a description if it is from your favorite dining emporium. Mucho calories required! Book-Something that touched your heart. Something that lingered after you closed the covers. A title that you remember with either secret-smile fondness or regret for something that ended before you were ready...like your first love. It needn't be a love story-just something that touched your softer emotions in some way. I'll expect you on February 14th! (but you can start shopping for your party togs now!) Cece

Is that the one with the cup of boiling water? If yes, that is the best ever.

Yes it is the one with the cup of boiling water.

I had a lot of family in and out the yesterday and today...there are only three pieces left.

They all loved it. So there will be another one on the table come Sunday.

We will have a crowd on the 4th.

Speaking of a cup of boiling water, I'm so glad the recipe noted that the batter will be thin because it was like pouring water in the pans. Had they not mentioned the consistency, I would have been worried....and you're right patti. It was very easy to make as was the frosting. As I said in the original post, I made the cake the day before and froze it over night which made frosting it very easy.

Glenda...I did it as a sheet cake.

I used to make layered cakes for birthdays...Had a little home bakery going for awhile. But I got real tired of it. Now I never make layered cakes...just not enough energy anymore for all that messing.

It taste just as good in a sheet pan...8)

I made layer cake because it was a friends birthday and I thought it looked more like a birthday cake. Found really cute birthday candles at target that spelled out Happy Birthday. Made it look very festive. I lined the bottom of the pans with greased parchment paper after greasing and flouring the pans. Freezing the layers made it very easy to frost. I haven't made a layer cake in 45 years! It was really a very easy cake to make. Try it, you'll love it.
