Hot Chocolate Rooms: A Rich and Sweet Color Palette
Let the rich browns and creams of hot chocolate inspire delightfully warm surroundings
I have a friend who is addicted to the hot chocolate at my local diner. She calls it “creamy comfort in a cup.” I agree, but prefer to save my calories and enjoy it as a decorating scheme for the home.
Deep shades of browns and creamy whites feel rich when mixed together. Whether you like your hot chocolate bold and rich or creamy and sweet, these spaces will fill you with delight!

Has anyone tried to lick these walls? They look yummy. The space gets warmth from the walls and the island cabinetry, yet still feels bright and airy via the different shades of white used throughout. To get this look, start by replacing heavy window treatments with white wood blinds to bring in the natural light. Next, keep the ceiling white, and install lots of lighting overhead as well as floor and table lamps with white shades. Add reflective accessories like mirrors. Finally, keep artwork light by making sure it has a lot of white in it, and use white mats when framing.
SW6047 Hot Cocoa by Sherwin-Williams
I wish this Sherwin William Hot Cocoa paint came with a scratch n' sniff option. I would use it on all my walls!
If painting walls a deep brown is too much color for you, keep it creamy on the outside and chocolaty in the middle! You can still get your hot chocolate fix – try a cream hue reminiscent of milk or a marshmallow on the walls, then layer brown pieces through fabric and upholstery. Add brown banding to drapes and brown piping to your pillows for extra chocolate touches; create a steaming cup of warmth all around you.

Middlebury Brown HC-68 by Benjamin Moore
Middlebury Brown by Benjamin Moore is reminiscent of Italian hot chocolate. Tip: Whichever shade of brown you chose, test it first using a tester kit or purchase a quart.
In spaces that open to each other, neutral creamy vanilla walls keep the entire area bright and connected. The deep chocolate accent wall is a visual element that separates the different areas. Warm browns combined with whites and creams create cozy, separate-yet-open spaces within the large open floor plan.
Looking for a bathroom palette that is timeless, clean, and reminiscent of a steaming cup of cocoa with whipped cream? Start with a bold espresso stain on the cabinetry and mirror frame, choose an oil bronze finish for the faucets, add a creamy counter top, and finally, choose tiles that mix in all of the above.
