What is it about cake stands that I find so irresistible? Innately pretty, full of whimsy, they're perhaps not the most practical item in your kitchen, but you don't buy a cake stand for practicality. Cake stands are meant to be frivolous and fun, and they sure know how to gussy up a dessert table.

Time to go back to nature. I'm in love with this rustic "tree slice" cake stand. The maker will even hand-carve and burn any personal message, initials or dates onto the stand.
I adore this beehive lid. It looks like something straight out of Winnie the Pooh.
What a shabby chic find. It has a vintage, distressed wood look with a hint of gold, and that pop of robin's egg turquoise is just lovely.
Tea party, anyone? Using upside-down tea cups as the pedestals is an example of great detailing.
Pretty in pink, this petal-colored, five-tiered, flower-inspired stand would be just the thing to show off some cupcakes or sugar cookies.
This tiered stand reminds me of ribbon and lace. Pretty and sweet, it has the usual prerequisites for a good cake stand.
This cake stand belongs in a fairy tale. I love how the twig stand is delicate and natural looking, drawing the eye directly to the delectable cake prize under the glass dome.
Classic white scalloped edges make this tiered cake stand one of my favorites.
This is a little mini guy. It's just the thing to dress up some mignardises or chocolates. The beaded edge is just adorable.
These pastel, porcelain mini pedestals make a darling presentation for cupcakes or other doll-size treats.
With its romantic, vintage milk glass with hobnail detail and ruffle edging, this is like everything I love all in one!
These cake stands have beautifully scalloped edging and are hand-painted with a blend of enamel infused with crushed mother of pearl. I love the combination of colors as well; they're fresh, modern and feminine, but not too frilly.
Noir. Sleek. Chic.
These yellow baubles are too fun.
I've been on a big lime green kick lately. This vibrant color would look great against some vanilla buttercream–frosted goodies. I also dig the playful garland design on this.
This galvanized tin pedestal brings a kind of rustic, farmhouse feel to the table. I know this ideabook is all about cake stands, but I'd just as easily slap a cherry pie on this baby.
A whimsical tree dessert stand is just what I need. Obviously.
Um yes, I'd like my fancy cake stands dripping with jewels, please. Merci beaucoup.
If you were looking for a reason to throw a garden party or host high tea with the ladies, this is it. When not in use for delicate tasty bites, I would use this to hold my jewelry.
This is a versatile serving piece for sweets, hors d'oeuvres or fruit. The elegant wirework reminds me of doilies. I like that.
