I'm a writer who ended up making lots and lots of cookies. I was a cookie decorator at a shop for almost ten years. I published a cookbook on cookie decorating in 2007, "Cookie Sensations." Fall is and always has been my favorite season. I'm happy to leave the hot, sticky summer behind me. While I understand why many have a passion for spring, to me, it just means that the hot, sticky summer is ahead. No, I'm all about fall: the crisp chill in the air, the promise of soon-to-fall snow (without the actual inconvenience of said snow), the smells and flavors of cinnamon and ginger and pumpkin. But anyone who knows me knows I'm not just about smells and flavors, but about making food that looks like fall, too: pumpkin and apple marshmallow pops, leaf and squirrel cookies, turkey cupcakes. I have more fun peeling the apple with a regular vegetable peeler, and I can usually get the entire skin off in one long spiral piece! The apple peeler shown looks like it digs pretty deep into the apple as it goes around, whereas I can control the depth myself. I don't use a lot of apples at once, so it's more fun my way, but I guess the gadget is better if you're peeling a lot of apples at a time.

By the way, I love candy corn! I don't understand why so many people don't, but there must be a lot who do, judging by how much is sold every fall! I was aghast, however, when I saw a few years ago that Brach's candy corn is now made in Mexico! I don't want candy from a third world country! So, I look for candy corn made by other companies now. This year, for a change, I bought the white chocolate Candy Corn M&Ms, and they're really good!

I got a similar apple peeler at Christmas Tree Shops for $8. I thought it didn't work until I figured out I was putting the apple in the wrong way :-)
