Please help- tiles or hardwood floors in the kitchen?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and very impressed with all the good advice and knowledge you share with each other.

We are about to start a kitchen remodeling project and I would love to share the process with you.

The first dilemma we are now facing is the floors. We currently have hardwood-floors throughout the house. We love the floors but in the kitchen they look awful, mainly in the high traffic areas.

We need to decide if we are going to keep the hardwood floors (of course- we will sand them after we install the cabinets) or switch to tiles.

On one hand, the kitchen will be open to the living space and we would like to have a natural flow. We also like the warm look of hardwood.

On the other hand, in high traffic areas the floors look really bad (and we sanded them three years ago)...

The contractor highly recommended that we switch to tiles. The designer likes to keep the hardwood floors. We need to decide...

Any thoughts, ideas, photos of contemporary kitchens with tiles (that open to hardwood living areas) and experience you can share would be highly appreciated!

Thanks!

Emily
