Anyone lay hardwood in kitchen and match to existing hardwood?

We have 2 1/2 red oak flooring on most of our main floor. Our plan is to remove tiles in our kitchen and entry and replace with hardwood, then sand and stain everything to match. Sounds easy, right? Wrong!!

Unfortunately, we haven't been able to find 2 1/2 hardwood anywhere, either finished or unfinished, as it is not currently a standard size (3 1/4 and 2 1/4). They have 2 1/4 but we're worried the size difference will look odd.

Has anyone had this dilemma? Did you decide to just accept the size difference?
