your help is requested for my master bath pix

Well hopefully this post will be successful and I haven't tired you all out yet-- I am posting the selections for my master bathroom which will be started tomorrow (!). I have selected so far:

the tile for floor/tub deck, shower walls

Vanity lighting:

Faucets

Now the fun part - I need one ceiling light. There will be 2 recessed lights in the ceiling by the tub and shower, but this is for near the toilet /and vanities. Not quite in the center of the room, and also the room is a good size (roughtly 12by 15 ish which at least to me is a good sized room)..normal 8" ceilings.

Has a skylight over the tub and gets lots of sunlight (southern exposure day time).

So here are my thoughts.

I really think this is beautiful but I wondered if it is too traditional. Several posters here thought it was too traditional.

So what about these?

I haven't seen the other posts but my first thought is not to put any fixture on the ceiling. I'd add more recessed lights in addition to wall sconces.

If you had really high ceilings I'd suggest a chandelier.

You're probably raising a very good point, but this is a replacement to a very generic ugly fixture and more recessed lighting/wall sconces are not in the plans.
So I need to get a ceiling light.
(and I need to get off the computer already and start my day - need to go for the 90th time to the paint store for one thing- and then empty out the master bath for tomorrow's demo!!)

Well now that I am reading up on how to post pix like sheesharee did so nicely above for me-- I am going to post the 2 or 3 lights that are now in the running. ( I still happen to really like the first one that you all agree is more traditional than the other elements...and am pretty close to orderin git- I keep thinking even if it is more traditional its on the ceiling will it really stick out like it doesnt belong? I dont think so but I do get that there might be better choices--and so I spend my time surfing the net...) Also to throw this off- the picture is of chrome but the item would be their empire silver finish which is sort of a muted silver-think brushed nickel-ish. This one would be brushed nickel... Obviously this next one is just plain plain but would it be better? And this one? They are all so similar... I am having such a party now that I read the instructions of how to post pix that are not in photobucket. Here's hoping it works!! Your thoughts?

Please try living with the vanity in its current color before you think about painting it. Paint the rooms, then see if you like the vanity better. See the post about painted cabinets in the bathroom if you need inspiration on why to wait!

I'm with Enduring in that I would prefer the space given to the closet instead of the toilet. In the last house, the toilet in the master was crammed into a tiny space shared with a tub/shower combo. Really, really disliked the space. Would traipse down the hall and use the other toilet. (I used the shower in the master only one time in all of the seven years that we lived in that house.) Also, I would not put a tub in but that may be just me. (The house already has one tub.) I would much rather clean a shower once every six weeks or so (we squeegee after a shower) than have to clean the tub (bent over and on your knees) every single time it is used. Tubs use a lot of water vs the lo-flo shower heads. But, if you love tub baths and routinely use a tub to bathe, that's another story and you'll want to include it in the remodel. (If you're thinking a cast iron tub, the floor framing will probably need to be beefed up.) Not a huge deal since the ceiling below will likely be torn out anyway for the plbg. changes. The other thing I see as a problem is the door opening directly in front of the vanity. That is going to be a pain if this is a shared bath and someone else is standing in front of the vanity.

So much to consider.. and each post is truly so helpful. The photos really help me a lot. Lyban, I agree and aim to use that full 39 inches for the shower or as much of it as possible. I'm really hoping that the dead space is usable. If not, then I think I might entertain reclaiming the small linen closet that is in the bedroom , for the shower .My first choice is using the dead space. I don't think I'd replace that closet if I had to reclaim it for the shower. The last photo Annie provided, with either just a cabinet surface or the lower down window seat has potential. The window that is next to the vanity is not so low down so it could atually even have just a regular counter height cabinet. The larger one is the one that is much lower down. Annie, if I moved the door to a single door next to the exterior wall, I'm still a little confused with your mentioning the closet. Do you mean building one, or using a large high cabinet ? In your scenario, Im not sure that moving the toilet would be worth it. I have to think on this a bit . I see that then the room might be a bit more balanced, but ... now re-reading your last post, that got my interest as we are "just" switching the vanity with a closet of sorts...but then that is also quite moving the plumbing . another thought - how about keeping one of the doors as is, which would still give a good bit of wall where an additional vanity or chair could go. They all seem like good ideas. I honestly think they'd all be vast improvements. Either way it's pretty much gutting the room and it's the level of what gets shifted and can go wrong.

I saw your other post and totally agree, the one you like is way too ornate to work with the more sleek design of the sconces. Of the photos you've posted, I think the first one is best, but in all honesty, I'd try to find one that is more plain or mimics the shape of the sconce arms better.

I agree lukkirish, that the first one of the new ones is probably best- still really like that first one, and plan to wait another few days and hope something jives. Would love any and all suggestions. thanks

You're welcome, you know, if it were me, I'd probably put something that leans much more towards the plain side on the ceiling and let something else be the focus of the room. Let's face it no one usually looks up there too much anyways and IMHO you don't really want them too. I'd let the lighting be a back ground thing and do something special around the counter area so that's where the eye is draw to. (if that makes any sense) :c)

Just throwing a fan in the mix...in case you are interested. If you live in a warm area they can be handy. Best of luck with your project...love the tile and sconces you have selected.

Well I still haven't figured out the ceiling light. (and while I would love a fan like that -- it wouldnt work in my bathroom. but it is really really nice.)
So aside from the ceiling lights, can we disuss the dreaded paint subject?
The room gets tons of light. It is with my master bedroom which is painted a BM color from before they had names...(but hey it still looks great and I still like it.) it's a deep blue sort of similar to whipple blue?
I just selected yosemite sand to paint the upstairs hall bathroom and it looks lovely.
So any and all suggestions or revelations for me?

ok so tell me I have lost my mind. I think this light is so very cool- it would be much smarter in an entry or kitchen right? It would be foolish in my bathroom right? I am linking it as well to see the dimensions and details. 15" high ?

Coming down to the home stretch I guess I will ask about paint in a separae post- but please someone knock my socks off with a great ceiling light suggestion?

Why not go with a cross between the ornate one you like and the ones that coordinate better with the sconce?

Going with something that is flush mounted will also make cleaning a little easier because you won't have all the arms and grooves for the humid dust to attach to.

Hmmm thank you- I like the first and third ones you posted. Well I like them all but I think the middle one is too plain....still thinking on this.
