See your rod iron settee on the porch? I like the dark against the brick. My first thought was a charcoal blue. The garage needs something, it's color seems to add a great deal to the pink you mentioned. Others will give you more ideas and solutions beyond my bit of input.

Its a hard one because it looks like one color from the road pic and totally diff. tones from the closeup pic. I was thinking a dark brown but can,t find a color sample to put up against the brick pic you posted. I think the charcoal blue would work . Your probly going to need a color with a dusky or a grey tone to it.

I would go for a really deep brown, like BM Mink, for example, on the garage door and shutters (yes, I personally liked it better with the shutters, although I'm sure there will be many who disagree). You could also paint the front door this colour, although I can picture it with a fun pop of colour. I would personally stay away from blues though. I think it would look odd with your roof colour.

Oops! It's not that I wasn't paying attention (I swear!), but that part was cut off for me by the ads at the side.

For what it's worth, I still think dark brown would look the best.

Typically, I don't find garage doors all that exciting to be a focal point, so I would match the tan of your brick and paint the garage door that color so it blends in more. I also like the shutters...how about a deep green or rust (that darker shade in your brick). Or you could paint the shutters a deeper tan than the garage doors and do the front door in deep green (forest, pine green) or rust.

I was thinking of a tan to match the bricks today, and started sorting through my paint chips. Any thoughts on undertones for a tan/beige color? Should it be strictly yellow, or green? Would something with a bit of gray look wrong?

I like the idea of a green/rust combo, but I was loving my red sample. The red I had originally chosen for the front door is a Behr color called Cinnamon Cherry. It's sort of a dark, muddy cranberry color.

It's hard to say if a yellow or gray tan would work better...color on a computer monitor can be distorted. I would get a bunch of different tan chips, bring them home and hold them up in various lights to see which ones go best...then do a few test samples on the door.

I would not put the rust and green together....either/or. Assuming you paint the garage door the same tan as the brick, you could go farther down on the same paint chip and paint the shutters that color and then paint the JUST the front door rust or green for a pop of color. Or, you could paint shutters AND front door green OR rust.

I am calling it rust because that is how it looks on my monitor but if that deeper color in your brick goes more to a cranberry...go for it!

I have another question. If we decide to paint an accent color for the rest of the exterior doors....and I'm still not sure this is a good idea...we have THREE different styled doors on the back porch. A solid 6-panel, a single French door, and a double French door. Will painting these a color different than the trim highlight the fact that none of the doors match? My gut says yes, and just paint them the trim color.

OR...paint just the main door that exits from the house (the double French) the accent color, thus making the other doors secondary and less noticable?

I have looked at tan colored paint chips until my eyes cross, and don't like any of them. Now I'm considering going lighter with a cream. The yellow undertones seem to be the better match, but I want something a bit muddy that doesn't read YELLOW from the street.

I thought this would be a fun project, but since we're hiring this job out, there's considerable pressure to get it right the first time. We could repaint doors and shutters ourselves, so if we goof on those, it's not a huge deal, but the trim color has to be right.

Greens and blues would accentuate the pink in the brick. Perhaps a soft gold would help bring out the tan color? There should be a range of nice, muddy soft golds to choose from.

Your present colors are hard to visualize; the "rusty brown" roof looks purple-ish mauve on my monitor. I think part of the problem is the whole house picture was taken mid-day when the harsh sun washes out the colors. And the close-ups look like they're in shadow. Any chance you can retake a picture with either early morning sun or late afternoon sun shining directly on the house? The golden sunlight would bring out the tans and rusts you claim are there, but we can't see so well!

I'd make the porch ceiling and columns a deep cream and paint everything else very dark: charcoal, bronze, black, something like that. I wouldn't try to match the brick tones; nor would I go for a blue or green, as much as I like those colors.

Alternately, we used a Benjamin Moore Aura paint called Interlude in a bath with pinkish tones. It's a medium taupe/tan that is not as orange as it appears on my monitor. When I just pulled it up on the BM website it was shown with chips of Taos Taupe (darker) and Early Morning Mist (cream). Might any of these work for you?
