Cast iron stack emmitting sewer gas smell

I've got a 50's era house with cast iron stacks and lead elbows to each of the toilets. I know basic plumbing, but no real technical knowledge. I gutted one bath so I know the toilet lines are lead. Also, the house has 2 septic tanks.

The line in question runs from a guest bathroom (2nd floor)and also handles the kitchen (1st floor). Once or twice a year I get a fairly strong smell of sewer gasses in a closet area beneath the stairs where the cast iron stack is located. I realize the closet exaggerates the smell, and I do not smell it in either the bathroom or kitchen. I've spoken to a plumber about it and got a vague answer...sometimes cast iron does that. I've been in the house 3 1/2 yrs and both tanks have been cleaned twice...and given clean bills of health.

I'm just wondering if there's something more and is it fixable?
