Comments (0)I did a slew of research about toilets when we remodeled an upstairs bathroom 2 years ago. We ended up with a Toto Ultramax II. For the most part, we've been happy with our decision, however, cleaning the bowl is a pain due to an extra scooped out section in the outlet. DH has asked that we look at other toilets to avoid this issue when we remodel the other 2 bathrooms. I thought I had time to do my research until I realized that we will be replacing the toilet in our powder room when we redo the wood floors next month. I need to tell our GC what toilet we want to purchase asap. We want a one-piece, elongated seat, comfort height toilet. Soft close lid a plus but not critical. We'd also like streamlined sides for the base if possible. It doesn't have to be skirted, just fewer nooks and crannies to catch gunk. I read through several pages of threads and it seems that an AS might be the next best option. Pity, because we did like the looks of the Kohler Kathryn but after nearly 21 yrs of all-too-frequently clogged toilets (first gen low flow junk), we definitely don't plan to buy on looks alone. Please help me wade through toilet confusion. TIA! x-post in bathrooms forum....See Moretoilet decisions - x post

Comments (14)One of the nice things about not buying from your local big-box store is that you can pick exactly what you need. For Toto toilets, I recommend springing for the extra money and getting the Sanagloss finish. Much easier to keep clean. Also, get the soft close lid. I have in the past bought both from my local plumbing supply store and from internet dealers. Both of them can be fast. And sometimes one is faster, sometimes the other. Check both options. Amazon or Wayfair are frequently really competitive, but my local supply store regularly matches their price. So, check that too. I really like the Toto Drake, but wasn't quite as impressed with the 1.28GPF model. It sometimes requires two flushes, whereas the 1.6GPF model always finishes the job in a single flush. In fact, it is pretty damn impressive how well it flushes. Great for households with kids. Make up your mind on whether you want a round or an elongated toilet. I absolutely hate the former, but I have to admit that it is more space efficient, and some people don't seem to mind. Also, make up your mind on whether you want regular height or ADA height. There are pros and cons for either option....See MoreBest flushing toilets in 2019 and 2020?
Comments (29)With all due respect to the many fine folks who contribute here, the sample size is just too small to be accurate. I have an Kohler toilet (model unknown) that rarely clogs but that doesn’t necessarily make that particular model of toilet a good “flusher” because we (and our bathroom habits) are all different. I have a neighbor whose kid, I swear, could clog a pit latrine, he’s constantly plunging. Another friend who seems to use about a half roll of toilet paper at a time (ok, that’s a bit of an exaggeration). The only way to really tell is to get a bunch of toilets, install them on identical plumbing systems, a flush consistent waste. That’s a job that’s a lot bigger than any individual....See More- 20 days ago
