Can't decide if I like these mirrors. What do you think?
Comments (10)Agree with the "send them back" folks. Larger decorative mirrors might work, to reflect some of the light coming in the room, but also consider what else would be reflected in them (I've seen magazine photos of mirrors that are tilted on a mantel, say, reflecting the ceiling, or a mirror reflecting only a painted wall). The inspiration photo shows a nice balanced look -- is that what you're looking for, or something specifically with mirrors?...See MoreWhat do you do when you like too many styles & can't decide?
Comments (15)Thanks all; sounds like I'm not the only one that has trouble deciding from time to time. I agree with the difference between liking pictures in a book or online versus living in it. I remember about 4 years ago, maybe 5, I loved the shabby chic pink look. I just knew I wanted it. I did two rooms in all white - one has lots of light blue accents, the other pinks and lavenders. They looked really good - straight out a magazine. I hated both of them. Even though I liked the look, I couldn't stand being in the rooms. One was redone in rich reds and gold and black, the other in, uh, gold, and rich reds. Hmmmm .... I'm sensing a pattern here. Thankfully (at least I *think* it's a good thing) I uncovered a new element - something that's going to restrict my choices a bit and therefore hopefully make the decision less stressful. When I was ripping up the various kitchen flooring layers .... carpet on top of pad on top of old vinyl on top of underlayment ... I accidentally ripped up a piece of the underlayment. I didn't mean too, was planning on putting the new floor (hadn't decided yet, was waiting on updated budget figures) and guess what I found? Yup, the kitchen had hardwood under there too! Hallelujah! It, however, is different than in the rest of the house. It's a wider plank, wider spacing, a MUCH more casual look and a more porus wood - meaning if I use the same stain it will not look the same and will likely look funny where they join. That led me to choose a contrasting stain choice so that it looked purposeful. I was torn between ebony (with cream cabinets), weathered / distressed barnwood (with either cream, black or barn red cabinets) and whitewash (with black cabinetry). Today when I started sanding, it became clear that I was likely not going to get it sanded white enough (without sanding down so deep I hurt it) to do a whitewash. The floor has gaps and grooves and the stain color fills those low spots. Trying to sand down that deep will leave me with a paper thin floor. That takes that color out of the options....See Morecoordinating finishes on exterior fixtures...what would you do?
Comments (9)Flyleft, No, nothing helps w/ the stink! Ah, the mystery behind my handle...Actually, in my household, "Stinky" is a term of endearment! When the cat is being particularly full of her self she's "stinky." When my husband does something annoying, the nice way of telling him so is to say, "That was stinky behavior!" Don't know how it caught on, but in good times & bad, we're all just stinky! There you have it...mystery revealed. Ironically, no one on the planet could be more into things smelling nice than I am! Potpurri for the house, home fragrance spray for the house, cleaners selected for their fragrance as well as cleaning abilities. Love fragrant bath gels, body sprays, scented candles...minty toothpaste, mouthwash & always have Listerine breath strips w/me! Have a vase full of eucalyptus in downstairs powder room so it always smells fresh. I'm a clean freak & part of my motivation is to keep things smelling nice. SO, in the conventional sense, am probably one of the best smelling people around...but if you ask my husband (& cat)...they'll tell you.. I'm very, very stinky!...See MoreI just can't decide what to do.....
Comments (18)Well ladies, let me tell you some of my secrets...before my DH and I got married his mother did EVERYTHING for him, made all his meals, snacks, etc...I mean the man couldn't even pour himself a glass of milk...his mom would shoo him away and do it for him. He would take his dirty clothes off to shower and by the time he was done his mom had already picked all of them up and she was waiting to take care of his wet towel. Well, the first time he showered after we were married and left his stuff all over the bed and floor I informed him that I was his wife, not mother, and I would NOT be picking up after him. If he wanted to have someone pick up after him, he could move back home with his mom. It worked, he's never left wet towels or dirty clothes laying around. LOL As far as kids go, it's a lot easier to train them when they are little. Our last house was a ranch and since I would pass by their rooms all the time they had to keep them neat. My DD would complain all the time when she was young that she couldn't wait until she moved out so she could keep her mess out all over the place. She did keep her locker at school messy. When she moved to the dorm and had a messy roommate she discovered that she really did like having things neat and clutter-free! My DS was a little harder to train though...so I allowed him to have a "junk" drawer in his room and maybe 2 or 3 times a year I would make him clean it out. Now we live in a colonial and once I wake up in the morning, shower and dress I don't see their rooms cause I'm on the main floor or in the basement so a mess wouldn't bother me now but I have them trained so well that they still keep things neat and clutter free!!!! Sneaky huh? Sorry, it is harder for you Maria because they are already set in their ways, it will be hard to make them see the light and start keeping things clean! WHAT I CAN DO FOR SOMEONE IS....take pics of your mess and post it to photobucket or something like that, then send an e-mail to me with your link, and I will take a look at them and make some suggestions about how you could organize it. E-mail: OneBigDave@sbcglobal.net Of course, if you live close enough, I could come see you! Barb...See MoreBoxerpal
