Please help me decided about this rug

Hello everyone. I'm going to have white cabinets in my kitchen with a black counterop. The floor is white tile. I'm using black and white all downstairs with pops of turquoise and apple green. I want to add a rug to the kitchen floor to offset the stark white floor against the white cabinets. This is the only rug I've found that is considered indoor/outdoor and I'm not afraid to use it in a working kitchen. The rug is black and ivory so I'm wondering if you think the ivory will just look dirty against all that white. I love whites & creams together generally so I'm not into matchy-matchy...but I don't want it to look "dirty" either. Thanks. {{!gwi}}

I think it would look fine. I also like the look of whites and creams together. Will you be using cream anywhere else in the room? I do believe a pop of color, like red or green in the floor rug would work too. With a black and white scheme, you have so many possibilities for adding other colors.

Light oak would't be my first choice. It does tend to look a bit country, but if you like it and think it'll work with what you have, you should do what you want. Since you're recovering the chairs, it might be just as cost effective to purchase new chairs in a wood tone that you prefer. I think the table size depends on your space. When I was single, I had a small table (30 x 50-It's now DH's desk.) in a small apartment. Most of the time it was pushed up against the wall with chairs at the ends and two chairs along the long side. It could be pulled away from the wall to accomodate six, but it was a tight fit! My current kitchen table is 34 x 55 but has leaves to make it longer. It's narrower than my last table (43.5 x 55 - a drop leaf that is now in the living room.) but suits us fine. I can fit dinner plates on the table without removing my large bowl centerpiece. I don't think I could fit everything if it was 32 inches. Maybe you could map out the dimensions of the new table onto the old table with painters tape to see if it works for the way you usually set the table.

I would love to update this room, but for now I need a new rug. My previous rug was sized very large so that it fit under the piano bench. I never like the way this looked but it was functional at the time. My question to all the GW experts is: Do I have a rug sized to fit under the chair and couch in a certain way, or do I just go with 9x12 or 8x10. I am going to go with a simple solid camel colored rug. I think I saw a previous thread that there actual ways to size a rug in a space. TIA!

Even though I tend to be a "mitchy-matchy" person, my CKD said to remember that all metals should be considered neutral. I have SS appliances, sink, faucet. ORB hardware seemed to look better with the tortoise ceramic floor, bronze glaze on the cabinets, and darker wood trim on the cabinets in our rustic kitchen. We were also able to get samples to look at. I think it was good advice to look at overall tones/colors and not just the other metals. I also liked all pulls. Excuse any picture problems. I am just figuring that part out.

Just want to share that I think your room is quite attractive already - I love the rug raven shared (and the one always1step ordered !).... I cannot visualize on the fireplace but everything else selected works great together. ( and seriously not to push you, but that rug!!! and it sure seems like a great deal to me at the current price......)

Love it. This rug would look perfect with your color scheme-the cream is looking pretty white on my monitor, though. Either way, I think it would work. Show us when all is finished, please!!!

Oh sure, it looks wonderful. Actually if it were white I wouldn't like it as much. Too much matchy matchy gets boring. I like the tones of white together and you can put a few more items in the cream some where in the room and all will be well. I love what you're doing!!

I think it is perfect! Can't remember ever seeing stark white in a rug - ivory is better. You can call it tan when it gets dirty!

I love it. Having the ivory will add a little depth to the room and you will also be able to use other ivory items in your kitchen. I think the style of the rug is marveluuuuuuz. Look forward to seeing more pictures of the rug in your kitchen.

I'm so happy to have found it. I definitely will post photos of the finished kitchen and the entire downstairs. It should be about a month. Thanks again.
