This is so hard, isn't it? Very helpful to see everything next to eachother. I like 132 for the entrance and 166 for the DR, but it's hard to pick the DR chandelier without knowing more about your furniture style. Can you post more pictures of the rooms? Does 40 have fabric on it? You may want to stay away from this in a kitchen. Can you get 25 in an ORB finish? What are the island dimensions and what are the countertops? Make sure you get adequate lighting.

I like rthe first set on the far left. I'm a sucker for drum shades, with the safe nod to MCM, The orb lights look, to me, a bit out of date.

I also like 290 and 70. I like the lantern next to them for an entry lantern.

Can you tell me the maker and name of that 70 pendant? I've spent probably hundreds of hours online looking at pendants and haven't seen those.

Just to be different, I like 39, 179 and then 25 for the island lights. 25 is a nod to the SS appliances and can act as a transition to the ORB lighting fixtures which stays true to the ORB pulls, knobs, levers etc.

There is nothing in the rule book that says you can't mix your lighting or your metals.

40 and 179 are fabric drumshades...in fact all the drumshades are fabric, either linen or silk. I don't know if 25 comes in ORB--hadn't considered that combination yet. We're getting a new sofa with English rolled arms, exposed shaped legs, leather tufted ottoman, and have country French looking DR set that I'm recovering the seats in a warm linen. I'm trying to marry all those into an more updated look as we move.

166 has crystal-look parts of it--I wish the shades were whiter and less yellow looking--not sure if the pic is accurate. That's from overstock.com.

Interesting thought that the ORB set looks dated---I think I was feeling like maybe that set would make it ORB overload, but also was drawn to that glass/ORB entry light--39--and thought of using it in a couple bedrooms. DH made only one request in the house and that was for ORB door handles, so he does like the look, but he hasn't even seen these choices. His eyes would glaze over and he'd back away!

The 70 pendant and 290 chandelier are available at costco.com. The finish is described as a gold-silver combination that makes it blend well with many finishes. The larger drum shade below those is a Kichler and may not match as well in real life as pictured, but I was thinking it might or possibly put 132 with those if it didn't?? At least with costco, returns are easy.

blfenton--I missed your post. Hmm...I love it that you're helping me see possibilities that I missed.

oldbat2be--I missed your question about the island. It's small at only about 4 ft x 3 ft, so 2 pendants should be enough I think. The counter is kind of a mottled dark gray.

I had to reread your question because I was tending to see things according to my room layout (dining off entry and kitchen open to a breakfast room -- all connected, but you don't see my kitchen fixtures from the entry and DR). In that case, I was thinking 138 for the entry and 290 in the DR, but 1790 and 40 in the kitchen. Since you see them all together, I think I would go 290, 138 and 70.

lascatx--ah, yes, the breakfast room will be no more once we move here. I may miss it sorely, but figured the DR will do double duty.

All your suggestions are so appreciated! I love the styles I see here. I tried talking with DD about this yesterday, but right now she's overloaded and told me I was too picky. Other DD is also swamped. I'm afraid my friends think I'm obsessed and maybe I am. I just need to order lights by Monday so am sort of panicky. Keep your thoughts coming.

Here, your obsession is okay. We all understand. We've all lost it. I sometimes wonder if my kids will look back on their whole elementary school life as the years mommy was decorating.

Anywho, I am not crazy about the shape of 39. A lot of lights have that look, and they look like bosoms to me. Just another manifestation of mental illness perhaps.

Would it be a bad thing to have the same light fixture in the dining room and kitchen?

mtnrdredux--funny! ...and here I was patting myself on the back for finding one that appeared to not be the "bosom" light. I was hoping the indentation would minimize that effect, but alas, it's still there I guess.

jeannie--sadly, the small kitchen island in this house has just 2 pendant locations already prewired, so can't support one as big as the DR can. The rest of the kitchen lights are can lights and all the sheetrocking is done.

It seems most of you prefer 290 and its matching lights--and I was hoping that would sort of be an updated look to go with fairly traditional furnishings in a craftsman style home. Our builder had suggested a different direction and before I order, I'm just curious to see how many of you would choose that set over the other. And do you think it would work with various furniture style? Here it is compared with the ones on the left. The photo is the manufacturer picture of the chandelier on the left installed.

Again--needing an entry light, DR chandelier, and kitchen island pendants all visible at the same time from at least one point, using white cabinets, trim and doors, and wall color is a greige. Thanks so much for your help if you're still hanging in there with me on this decision!

I am concerned/curious about fabric shades used over an island and their clean-ability? My stovetop is not in my island, but it's close proximity would make me concerned. Your thoughts? BTW, all those fixtures are beautiful.

That's a really good point. My island doesn't have appliances in it either, otherwise I think I'd totally avoid it. But actually I had at first been wondering about fabric shades altogether, then thought about all the lamps and how vacuuming seems to keep them looking clean. I do cook lower fat than probably most and have found I get very little grease buildup in my vent filter. But of course, I've also had bowl of blueberry sauce bounce off the floor and fly everywhere. LOL Wonder how others deal with fabric shade pendants and cleaning?

I won't put fabric shades in the kitchen, or eating area. It isn't the visible dirt that worries me but rather the mix of dust and grease on the shades. That will never come clean. Although curtains are fabric they can be taken down and cleaned just as mats, tablecloths etc can be. Fabric Lamp shades - not so easy to clean. Although I guess they can just be replaced. Just my 2c.

Can you find out if the lights you like are available in satin or antiqued brass? That is a lovely finish that hasn't made it yet to the big box stores so should look updated for quite a while. It will also complement the ORB finishes much more than the nickel/chrome/ SS will.

I like #132 for your entry but not in the shiny finish shown. If that is available in satin brass I would go with that one. Also would not do fabric shades in the kitchen, and would not get three lights of the same type because it would be either drum shade overload or look like a "set."

You've made some great points about the fabric issue in the kitchen. I guess I'll rethink that one and look for something else. I do agree about it getting to look too much like a set if using all three, so I'd been thinking of using the lantern in the entry. Maybe I can dull down the finish on it somehow--or keep looking for another and find other pendants. I think trailrunner had some really beautiful pendants if I recall.

The satin brass does seem to be showing up--hadn't really even thought of going that direction.
