A gift from Momto4kids, and you won't believe it!

Nope you won't. You just plain will not freakin' believe what Deb sent me. I'm amazed. I'm floored. I'm already using it!

Yup, Deb sent me her slightly used Magic Mill. She says she seldom uses it and thought I'd get more use out of it. Since I'm making 300 dinner rolls for Amanda's wedding, plus the wedding cake, oh, you betcha I'll use it. So, I cranked it up:

I got my first couple dozen dinner rolls in the freezer already and more are on the counter cooling:

This thing is a MONSTER, it'll hold something like 25 cups of flour. The Zo perks right along, and can make about 3 dozen rolls per batch. This one can make more like 7 or 8 dozen per batch, it'll cut my batches down to 3 instead of 10 or 12.

I'm still amazed, speechless. In the same box she sent a small Krups waffle iron (which I've already used, I had gingerbread waffles for supper!). The timing was perfect, I was just thinking I'd make whole wheat waffles more often if I didn't have to drag out the big Villaware that makes cows, pigs, chickens and barns. I seldom have waffles for breakfast, but I like them a lot for supper.

Amanda is having three flavors of cake and a dessert table, and I'm responsible for all of those, so you can bet that I'll be using this baby! The day I unpacked it I had it running, the Zoji bread machine going, the big KitchenAid mixer going, the oven on and both the dishwasher and the washing machine working. It's a miracle I didn't blow the house up. Oh, and the coffee maker was going too, LOL, gotta have my quota of caffeine to keep up with everything I need to do before October 16.

What a great gift. I can't think of anyone here that would put that baby to better use than you Annie.

I've had my Magic Mill for 15 or 16 years and I would hate to be without it.

Whoo Hoo! David the party is Good Friday! Come on down! For the last few days I've had all my swap goodies on the island for all to see! I was putting them away last night and got a little sad thinking this swap is over. But then I looked at all my goodies again and I got happy! Deb, I'll think of you now evertime I bake cookies, make zest, grate cheese, prep seasonings, use a recipe out of 'the cookbook', baste the b-b-q, 'orka' the turkey ;-), have a hot handle on a pan...well, you get the idea! Jumping in late to this conversation and went back into past posts to find out about the books. Like you, Trailrunner, I would be very upset. I have all the books that belonged to my children. And there is a memory with each one. DS #1 loved The Poky Puppy, an inexpensive Golden Book. We read that book multiple times a day for 2-3 years as it got smaller and smaller because a little boy liked to sleep with parts of it. When he was expecting his first child, I bought my son the book. He read the book to his unborn child and today it is one of our grandson's favorite books. I wish you the best of luck in retrieving this memory-filled box. As a poster said in the original message, start the collection again through resale shops, garage sales, etc. On a happy note, grandbabies are the best! Our third grandson was born October 28 and our 4th grandchild will arrive in May. Perhaps I should change my moniker to 'Mimiof4'!

Deb, you're welcome. I wish I'd have had some of the hot and spicy catsup left, instead of the milder and sweeter stuff, and I had no mustard at all. Darn it. The Cowboy Candy is one of Carol's (Readinglady) recipes, it's basically a bread and butter pickle made with jalapenos instead of cucumbers. Elery loves 'em, so I hope you do too. Thanks for the kind words of sympathy! As soon as I realized another snaffu had occurred I wanted to post pics and ask help from my fellow GW TKO! But, I HAD to head to work, and as a coach, well, I gotta be there, and can't be late! :>) Though we were all ready to start installing (we're DIY), of course DH got the night off, and everything is still sitting as delivered, not opened, in my living room. Sherilynn, I HAVE followed your fiasco, but (touch wood) we're not in quite the same position. (Yet). I don't want to name names, cuz I still believe the actual kitchen place is going to bend over backwards to get everything right. Short story is: I am dealing with a small local place that has only been open a year or so (they were almost brand new when I started dealing with them). It is a group of industry people that joined together....blah blah blah, so that even though the company itself is new, the principals have been involved in this industry for a long time. The company that they ordered my cabinets from (in China)was a new supplier to them, and I DON'T think they are going to order again- mine was their first order. I don't have any issues with the quality of the cabinets themselves- gorgeous and for what I paid, a steal of a deal. But, measurements of some doors were off by ~ 1/16" and on frameless, unfortunately, you don't have that leeway (hinges moved to the max),so some doors had to be trimmed, and several individual cabinets came the wrong size or came as base cabinets instead of drawers. I honestly don't know if it was the fault of the person who ordered them (both have been fired), or the manufacturer. It doesn't really matter, cuz the Kitchen Company (KC) is trying to fix it. At first, the manager tried to make them himself- one worked out fine, the next was so bad we couldn't accept it, so KC agreed to hire a carpenter to do all the rest of the fixes. He came out twice, once with representatives of the KC (to make his quote/estimate for approval), and then again with his assistant to measure and make final list. Now, while he was here, perhaps 30-45 minutes, he must have received 20+ phone calls. The guy is busy! To be fair to him, if I wanted plywood boxes with staples, these are probably the best quality I could get. They ARE very well made- the finish is immaculate- and these are JUST the boxes, I haven't seen the doors or drawer fronts yet. I phoned the KC this morning, and the manager said he'll get right on it, and that this wasn't what I asked for and was expecting. We'll see what transpires once he talks to the carpenter. Picture of the trash pullout- nicer than I was expecting - I just said I wanted a slide out shelf to use for recycling, and he made this up. (Cabinets are not different colors as it appears here, must be the flash)

How wonderful. There are some really wonderful people in this world!!! Many times we only hear the bad things about people. This is the best example of someone with a wonderful caring heart that I've ever heard! I'm so happy for you Annie and Deb I'm not sure I know you but ....bless you.

Wowee. What a nice gift, whatever it is. I am another one who never heard of a Magic Mill. I also have never figured out how to use my Cuisinart. Looks like Annie Had no problem using the MM.

Deb, what a nice, nice thing to do. I'll be emailing my address to you just in case you are cleaning out your jewelry drawer.

HEY!!! What the heck????!!! That second picture of yours is worth a thousand words (or 44 different languages of instruction that the manual provided!!)!!! I didn't know you were supposed to put that scraper thingy in there like that!! Hahaha! See, I TOLD you that thing was NOT intuitive to ME!! I could make a small batch of something, but not a mega-batch, which is what I wanted it for! That doggone roller wheel just plastered everything up along the sides and didn't do ANY mixing! Now I see!! Even so...it's still too much for me!

I am BEYOND tickled that it works for you! The MM has already seen more use in your house than in mine! Woohooo! That baby is gonna be a workhorse at Chez Annie! Glad the waffle iron fits, too! My new waffle iron cranks out more waffles faster, so the masses aren't yelling at me like they were before!

Do you all remember this picture I posted when I got the Monster? What a good laugh!

(Here are the kids now (in the same order, hahaha):.... "Oh, Puhleeeez, Mom, stop taking pictures!!!"

Deb, after I read the two paragraphs of instructions a couple of times I figured out two things:

1. They need better instructions in fewer languages.

2. That the scaper thing went SOMEWHERE.

It was only in reading the bread recipe itself that it said the scraper turned the batter and the roller flattened it, to mimic the motions of kneading dough by hand.

Now, I haven't used it for anything except dough yet, so I guess I'll figure out whether I need it for anything else!

Elery wants to buy the grain mill part for it, he's just sure I'll want to grind (and grow) my own wheat.

Anyway, it was generous beyond words and it's already been used a couple of times, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

Well, maybe I could send you those pink fuzzy handcuffs...

I've had my MM for about 10 years now & love it. Because it operates differently than traditional mixers there's a bit of a learning curve but once you've got it down...it's a beautiful thing! I've got the blender attachment but haven't added any of the others...yet.

Waffle maker too? wow! I have a rotating waffle maker (littlest guy used one at a Comfort Inn when we were at a baseball tourney in MD) I'd love some new waffle recipes - think I'll start a thread and not hijack the love fest :)
