OK...I have emailed the "story " to Allison's links and jon has already gotten back to me 2 X !! He says he will try. So I also emailed the story to Atlanta Fox 5 and to Montgomery Al WSFA and also to Columbus GA...this from someone who has NO TV LOL.

That's great! Jon came to my house several years ago to interview me about an ex-tenant. She had a consignment shop and had closed up/moved out without notice - even to her consigners. She had a large set of china that the owner wanted back, and she had called Jon. When I saw his segment on the news, I emailed and said she had been a tenant and I had info as to her and her whereabouts. You wouldn't believe the amount of stuff they bring in to film a 5 minute follow-up segment. lol

I had to Google OIG - Office of the Inspector General. Pretty neat to get a call from this office.

BTW - I have this great image in my head. It's a determined you, in all your biking regalia, standing in front of the USPS Auction just daring them to try to sell those books. Then I see a loaded bike trailer making its way back home!

Thanks again Allison. He was very nice. I have since heard from my postmaster...he and the Bham people are working on it. And I heard from the Columbus TV station. She is a new Mom and lives near us...so who knows...maybe.

maire cate: he told me the government isn't allowed to go into other facilities. They can act if there is a reported breaking of the law . There is nothing of that sort in Atlanta. They have no cause to cross the lines into another agency. They investigate only .

I think part of the problem is that the USPS is a weird hybrid of a private company and a public company. FWIW--I send and receive stuff all the time via the USPS...and they are as, or more, reliable than Fed Ex in my area. (LOVE the priority mail "if it fits it ships" boxes. Almost all my ebay stuff comes that way.) Parcel Post has been great too. But I NEVER use Media Mail.

My postmaster just called and asked for the book list again...and I sent a cover letter too and this is now going to be sent to the director of the Atlanta place...will be sent so he HAS to sign for it and a plea from my postmaster who is going to phone him too. So we will see. If this doesn't work then I am out of ideas. Fingers XXX

Jumping in late to this conversation and went back into past posts to find out about the books.

Like you, Trailrunner, I would be very upset. I have all the books that belonged to my children. And there is a memory with each one. DS #1 loved The Poky Puppy, an inexpensive Golden Book. We read that book multiple times a day for 2-3 years as it got smaller and smaller because a little boy liked to sleep with parts of it. When he was expecting his first child, I bought my son the book. He read the book to his unborn child and today it is one of our grandson's favorite books.

I wish you the best of luck in retrieving this memory-filled box. As a poster said in the original message, start the collection again through resale shops, garage sales, etc.

On a happy note, grandbabies are the best! Our third grandson was born October 28 and our 4th grandchild will arrive in May. Perhaps I should change my moniker to 'Mimiof4'!

trailrunner--you didn't know. And media mail is FOR mailing books. Hang in there--I hope they find them!

My postmaster sent the list again to MRC to the head Mr Snow. So far no word from anyone. Also all the TV stations dropped the idea...I guess they couldn't really see a way to approach the problem or offer a solution.

I just spoke to my carrier and he agreed that they should let me in to look for the books since I know what they look like and could pick them out in no time at all even in a bin of 100's. So we will see.

I can replace and the memories will still be there it isn't intrinsic to the book. Thank you for the continued support and interest. c

Trail runner I have a few of the titles listed on your book list. I could round them up and if you Email me I would be happy to send the ones I have too you for your new addition.

Oh Laura...how thoughtful. I will certainly post when I know more. I hope to get in touch with someone the first of the week. The auction in Atlanta is mid month...I think the 19th. Supposedly they hold the newly arrived articles for 2-3 months to allow them to find the items to have told them you lost. I hope so...this is beyond frustrating. I will let you know...and again...thank you so much. c
