please help me with paint colors

Hi, we are getting ready to put our home on the market but the house is all one color and I can't decide which paint colors will look best. Can you please help me :) I will post pics of the rooms I need help with, I apoligize for the bad quality photos-I had to use my camera phone to take the pics.

First it the kitchen and eat in breakfast nook. I cant decide on a color to use and I am debating just painting the living room and kitchen all one color so it flows better. What do you think? I have different shades of brown/tan tiles and tan corion countertops. Oak cabinets.

the floor in the kitchen is a beigey-tan tile. The carpet in the living room is a beige-tan also. I plan on keeping the trim and ceiling white like they are now. The couches in the living room are light tan leather. I really would like to paint the living room a color that I could paint the stairway and upstairs game room since the rooms all flow together-it would look wierd if I didn't.

Personally, I think this is not the time to paint your house colors. Right now, your house is neutral which is what most buyers would prefer. My suggestion would be to add some color in other ways, wall hangings, throw pillows, area rugs, curtains and drapes etc.

wanted to follow up and mention that I loved the color called "garden clog" from martha Stewart. Does anyone think that would go well in the master bedroom and bath?

Lovely, open rooms, nice flooring and pretty curtains and furniture. Let me just mention one thing FYI, your rug under your table is really too small. It should be large enough for the chairs to still be on it when they are pulled out. I mention the rug for that reason and also to say, if you do get a new rug, you might find a color within that new rug, to use on the walls and all will coordinate. May I ask why you have so much carpeting covering your beautiful hardwood floors? Are they not as beautiful as I think they are? LOL Also, the tan carpet just blends in. I think a rug with design and more colors would really punch up the room design, but I think the rug(s) would need to be better positioned. Have you been over to the "Gallery" side of this forum? It has hundreds of photo's of all rooms and they each have there own thread. You might want to parooze that to get some ideas on the paint colors that people use with the black and white toile. Even look at the threads of bedrooms and baths just so you can get more ideas on color with he toile. You need a color to show them and your furnishings off more. The color you have now is too pale. One more thing and I'll shut up since I'm giving advice not asked for anyway!! (Just trying to help) I think your windows would look more dressed if they had some blinds or shades under the valances. Thank you both for your responses. Oceanna, I know I should wait to paint until I select the furniture for these rooms, but I am going to have company for the holidays and I am embarrassed to have them look the way they do. I know I'm foolish and I will probably have to paint again once I get my furniture. I am currently considering mystic beige and richmond bisque. Has anyone used these colors? Thanks for your help.

petlover, it will match the red. Shale is prob just a smudge darker than the RP the best way is to grab a sample and bring in home. you can see RP, collingwood and Shale together try the Shale. Graystone is also darker, so maybe try that as well. you'll have to see what it looks like on your wall w/your lighting. Shale is the same tone as Revere, so ask the paint guy if he could darken it by 25% without it affecting the overall 'tones'. But I think it will be darker on your wall than the revere.

I wouldn't paint either! It is so much easier for a buyer to envision their stuff in a space if it is neutral and they are not distracted by your decor. Love the shutters! Save your $ for yourself in a new place.

I looked up Garden Clog...is it green? I wouldn't paint anything a dark shade but I agree that warming it up just a tad would be more inviting to buyers. A nice, warm shade of tan will still keep it neutral. BM Lenox Tan is a great one!

Yes, don't bother to paint. You already have neutral as recommended for selling a house, so why go for more neutral? That would be a lot of effort and several days of upheaval for not much more than you already have. You're lucky!

Your real estate agent should have some suggestions for adding colorful accessories, pillows and artwork, maybe some real or fake green plants, something to warm it up and cheer it up. Right now, it looks clean, new and spacious, a very good thing.

I would not paint your home. It is a nice neutral for buyers to be able to envision their stuff in your home. I would change the kitchen table's table cover to something more neutral. I would add colorful accessories and silk plants.

P.S. What color are your walls and trim right now? I think they are nice.

The paint looks in good shape from here and it's neutral. I wouldn't paint either. The new owners will be struggling for new colors for the rooms anyway :) Terribly wasteful and your house already looks clean and fresh.

I agree about not needing to paint if the paint is in good condition. I sold my mom's house last year and just touched up all the paint except for a purple bedroom and a dark green dining room. Those I repainted.

Her dining room had the same trim yours does. I painted the lower part a medium brown and the top a soft beige and left the trim white. If you wanted to paint something you could paint the lower part of the dining room a medium brown. It would still be neutral but add a little punch.

Ok thanks for the advice! to the PP I am sorry I do not know the wall color, it was a standard color the builder chose. I know it came from Monarch paint here in Texas.

I bought some curtains for my bedroom and 2 lamps to spruce it up alittle and wow what a difference.

But I need advice with curtains and a new chandalier for the kitchen and dining room...anyone have pics of any they think will look good with off white walls and beige carpet?
