I pulled the filter and checked mine last night. There is water like yours and there was some small bits of food particles. Did not smell. Although It finished running a load about 18hrs before. I can't test the two day thing since it pretty much always has dirty dishes in it. When there is dirty dishes in it obviously will have an odor that will build over time. I scrape but do not rinse my stuff. Wasn't as hard to break the habit that we had with rinsing the dishes since we were without a DW and sink for like 8 months for my remodel so it was like starting over :). I just started using the DW a few weeks ago. I have started using Miele Tabs and using 1/2. No rinse aid or salt. I have a whole house water softener and I just tested the water again and its at like 2 grains vs 28 without the softner. Kas, You use Tabs and rinse aid. I thought based on the directions that rinse aid should not be used with Tab detergents? I set the unit to not dispense any rinseaid. I do get white spots on silverware, plastic and glasses. Not sure I should add rinse aid.

Hi Flying Kite, Sorry for not getting back sooner. Try this. Can you jump up and down near your washer and make the floor bounce? If so, you need to eliminate that bounce - that is almost certainly where your vibrations are being picked up. Does the bounce mean your house is structurally unsound? Not at all. Old or new, many houses are bouncy. My house is 100 years old and was very bouncy, but those old fir 2x10 joists are not going anywhere! :-) Alas, I don't have too many links - my advice came from a friend who is a contractor and he did the work with me. However, here is my best shot. Your floor joists can be reinforced in a few ways. Bridging refers to supports that run perpendicular to the joists while sistering are supports that run parallel to the joists. People seem to argue which is more effective, but if you bridge, then decide to sister, you have to redo your bridging. Sistering is essentially attaching (with glue and lots of nails) a piece of wood to the joist. A sister can be as long as the joist, or just cover the middle span of the existing joist if you have issues with plumbing or other stuff in the way. Some people say you need to use massive 2x10s while others say plywood is easier and just as strong (I used plywood and it really worked). There are others who talk about steel strips and it gets complex. However, to do it right, you need to jack up the existing joist before attaching the sister - that way the flex you are trying to eliminate is locked in when you attach the sister. Does that make sense? It is a bit above the DIY level when it comes to the engineering part of it, so consult someone who really knows their stuff. To top it off, my Miele dealer said not to bother with all this if you have a dumpy basement (non finished). His fix was the floor jack idea where two jacks in the basement hold up a single 2 x 10 perpendicular to the joists just under the front of the washer (span 6 to 8 feet or whatever works). Let me tell you - it really worked. The bounce and vibrations went down instantly and dramatically. You can get these jacks at Lowes for about 20-$30 each I think. However, I could not live with the placement of these things in the middle of our basement so I had to do all that other work. My advice is try the jacks just to see if you can eliminate the vibrations. If you can live with them, cool. If not, you have no vibration while you work on getting all the other work done. Again, I don't want you to lose heart here. It is a hassle, but like I said there are a number of reasons we have all had laundry in the basement for years and years. Old or new, houses weren't designed for heavy equipment that spins! True, some machines vibrate less or have less mass and it would be nice if they all thought more about non-basement installs. I love my Miele (1215 and 1415), but let me tell you, when I first had to deal with vibrations I was bummed out and though I made a horrible mistake. Now I am a happy happy person (with laundry any way). You can get through this! :-) Try the jacks first then find a contractor you can trust and you can lick this thing! Oh, don't jack up too much - you can go nuts and ruin your houses if you jack it up too high!!! Now I am scaring you off. Jack up just a tad, see what happens with the vibration and redo as needed. Getting to the point where you lift the house off the foundation is quite extreme! :-) Thanks, Deke

Suburbanmd, Our first W4842 was for sure defective. It did not vibrate, shake or rattle, but... It had the rubber boot shredding into thousands of small pieces, the soap tray had to be fixed, the machine kept saying the door was open during loads and the Hygiene Info would come on, even after during a Sanitize or Clean Machine cycle! Now, the second one (the one Miele gave us as a warranty replacment...the one I got rid of within a week of), I am now thinking maybe it had a drawer/pedestal issue and was unbalanced. I do not know though, since the Installer were sent by Miele Headquarters themeselves and the Installers returned the next day, and they said they "fixed" the machine. They were very young, and seemed like "hung over" frat guys after a party night!! I was really surprised and not happy, that this was the company Miele sent themselves! I guess I will never know, since I got rid of the machine and went to Electrolux for about 2-3 weeks. No real issues with the Electrolux (they were SO quiet & clothes were very clean, but I did not like the dryer very much and build materials were poor and the doors were questionable). I'm now on load 6 with my current W4842...and it is PERFECT! Also the new T9802 Electric Dryer is AMAZING. I had Miele program it like my old T9800. I had them set the Normal cycle a little warmer and the Cooling Down period to Extended. Now even using Normal, nothing is left damp, and the clothes are left SO soft, fluffy and 100% wrinkle free. The Extended Cooling Down Program is a must. The new dryer is even quieter than the T9800 (and that one was pretty quiet). The build materials on both the W4842 and T9802 cannot be compared to any other machine in the world. The doors, glass and plastics feel like an old (old, in a good way :) Mercedes-Benz. Teutonic, over-built and bank vault solid. SO happy. Wow, what a roller coaster month of laundry and financial stress and aggravation. In the end, Miele proved best for me. Now our entire house is Miele, and knowing that Miele Service comes out (with parts with them) is a big peace of mind. Danke Schön Miele!!! :) P.S. Just did a load of my son's clothes at 6am (while everyone else was sleeping...Normal, Very Warm, Max Spin). I am in the room next to the laundry room & my 3 year old son's room is directly above the laundry room. I did not even know the machine entered the Max Spin cycle and was complete, until I walked in the laundry room. Miele made the machine Electrolux/Samsung quiet and balanced. Amazing actually!!

so i called lowes and mentioned the scratch and they offered me 15% off or a new machine. i took the 15% off...i don't know if they could have even ordered another one for me but i def wasn't going through another delivery process just bec of a scratch on the machine. i'm very happy with the 15% off. then i called the 3rd party delivery co's guy i had been dealing with all along...(way back i asked abt compensation for the hassle from lowes they said its the delivery company's responsibility so at the time i asked this guy i was dealing with and he said he def would be giving me something.) so i called and asked for compensation he said he'll get back to me...that he has to speak to lowes etc so i mentioned that i got the 15% from lowes for the scratch bec i never mentioned the scratch to him so i didnt' want him to be confused. and told him that when i asked lowes abt compensation for the hassle they said the delivery co is responsible. anyway he called back and offered $75 in lowes gift cards. I tried saying its so little, i'm getting that much back for a scratch and this was a huge hassle and totally avoidable had the delivery guys not dumped the machine and ran...if they would've just read the instructions they could have done it properly, and then on top of it they lost the feet etc that it was not a mistake, it was laziness and negligence etc...but he still said all he can do was $75 so i said fine... lol so assuming the above comes through it will cost me $356! still would not want the hassle of the feet, not worth the aggravation but the scratch is prob worth it ;) on a side note, when i called the delivery guy i've been dealing with extensivley, i introduced myself saying "hi, i'm the lady with the rubber feet" haha
